Born in Romania, in the heart of Transilvania, Dr. Avram went to college in his hometown and graduated with a major in Biology and Chemistry. He received his dental degree at Iuliu-Hatieganu University, School of Dental Medicine, in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. During his training in Dental School, he met his wife Zheni who is an Internal Medicine physician with specialties in Geriatric Medicine and Obesity management. Together they have two children David and Erik who attend Henrico County public school.
After moved to the US with his family in 2005, Dr. Avram completed his training in Advanced Education in General Dentistry at Nova Southeastern University, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. While he is practicing dentistry in West End of Richmond, Virginia since 2010, he is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys many of the beautiful things Virginia has to offer such as hiking, biking, boating, hunting, and skiing. He is a volunteer with Wintergreen Ski Patrol, member of US Coast Guard Auxiliary, member of Goochland Rotary Club and a volunteer at Goochland Cares Free Clinic.He enjoys spending time with his family and helping local communities.

I am 60 years old and have not required much dental work-a few fillings and one root canal. My teeth are hard to numb though. For health reasons I could no longer drive to my former dentist of several years. Had to get new dentist closer to home. Needed another root canal. Insurance identified Dr. Avram as in network. At Dr. Avram's office I spoke with one of his patients who reported going there for years and was very pleased. I decided to let Dr. Avram do my root canal. He and his assistant were very professional. Office was exceptionally clean. Billing submitted all necessary info so that preauth obtained prior to appointment. Dr. Avram took the time to make sure my tooth was numb, very patient. Kept me informed. Root canal completed. I even almost dozed off during the procedure. Dr. Avram and his staff worked very well as a team making my root canal uneventful. I have made this my new dental home. Highly recommend this dentist.

Honestly the worst experience I have ever had with a dentist. Staff was super friendly. First problem was they polished my teeth before they even cleaned which you are not supposed to do. Second problem was that yes unfortunately I had to bring my 4 month old child with me that they made me put in the hallway in his car seat. The biggest problem I had was when the doctor was scrapping my teeth with his water pick he did not have the suction in correctly so my mouth was filling up with water while he was spraying water up my nose and I had to abruptly sit up to be able to breath and spit water all over myself. To which the doctor seemed super annoyed like this was my fault but the suction was suction to my cheek not even suctioned the water out. Yes my son was being a little cranky because he was sitting in the hallway unable to even see me or anyone really. I politely asked if I could just bring him in there and he said no. I have super high anxiety when it comes to dentist and he did not make me feel comfortable at all, he seemed very annoyed the whole time about me being a little on edge and then the water incident happened and that just sent me over the edge. I left the office and went to my car and cried because of the way he acted. I understand things happen and people have bad days but this was just unacceptable to me. Lastly when I came home and calmed down I called several times to ask how to obtain copies of my X-rays and other things. They would not call me back she would only email me. When I asked for specific things like my perio charting she tried to refuse to give me that information and thankfully I know my rights to obtain copies of my medical information or she would have not given it to me had I not told her she did not have a right to refuse my request for no reason per federal law. Also, after receiving my perio charting measurements he had measurements for my upper teeth which he did not take at all! So where he got those measurements is beside me.

Friendly and accommodating atmosphere. Listens to my concerns and questions about my dental health. Asks when I feel pain or discomfort and waits untill I am ready to continue with cleaning.Helps me with insurance question and coverage concerning my upcoming surgery. I have put off leaving this review for a couple visits in an attempt to allow the opportunity for improvement. Unfortunately, the opposite has occurred. I started visiting this office in September and it was clear the person working the desk at that time was on the way out. I asked twice for itemized statements and never received them. I visited twice during a time where there was no receptionist and the assistant had to check me in after I walked in to an empty office and she followed me after apparently returning from a break. A new receptionist, Diana has since been hired and the level of professionalism decreased further. I had to ask her three times for my itemized statements. I even had to cancel an appointment to get the statements due to my FSA card being frozen. You may as well refrain from leaving a message because there is 0% chance Diana is returning any call. Your only hope is if you get someone on the phone. Today, I showed up a couple minutes early for a 3 o'clock appointment. The door was locked so I waited until 3 and went to my car to call the office. I left a voicemail to indicate I had been on time and was waiting but don't see anyone in the office. I waited until 305 and saw no one walk past the window at the front door so I left. At 318, Diana calls me and I ask if she had been in receipt of my voicemail. She tells me yes I heard it but we were just across the hall. No apology, just bluntly that she had been on lunch break. I asked how I was supposed to know this, as I was on time for an appointment that had long been scheduled and saw no note on the locked door. She then proceeds to tell me I wasn't there at 3 because she was there exactly at that time. I asked if that is the case why didn't my call get answered or anyone go through the front door, because I could see it. Diana again proceeded to tell me the same lie. I mentioned that had I skipped an appointment, I would be charged $50 and I expect some form of compensation since I drive 30 minutes each way. I also stated the way this is being handled is very unprofessional. Diana told me she's sorry I feel that way and proceeded to argue with me. I clarified this is not just a feeling, as she is actually giving bad service and I asked to speak with Dr. Avram. She put me on hold then returned and stated he is unavailable and will call me by week end. I asked why he is not available if it is still a time I would have been in his chair. I also asked again what they are willing to do to correct the absolute pathetic and unprofessional handling of this situation. Diana proceeded to tell me my compensation for this would be a rescheduled appointment for next year and that's all she's willing to do. Not even offer an apology. I suppose we will see what happens when Dr. Avram finds a convenient time to rectify the situation. I am not going to hold my breath as his judgement clearly hired Diana who can't even be bothered to be punctual or apologize when apology is due.

Dr. Avram is wonderful. I have always left his office very happy with my care. He does a wonderful job of educating you on the different nuisances of dental hygiene and dental health without being pushy, overbearing, or judgmental, and he doesn't mind answering any of the questions you might have! He has such a calm demeanor that even if you hate the dentist it will help put you at ease. He always finishes my fillings in record time, so as soon as you start getting anxious about someone being in your mouth, its over! The staff are all so friendly and considerate and go out of their way to take care of any of your concerns. Would highly recommend!
