Asheville, NC, orthodontist Dr. Timothy Scanlan is a warm, compassionate person who always puts his patients needs first. Dr. Scanlan places a high value on both your concerns and those of your child. Dr. Scanlan is a board-certified orthodontist. He received his bachelors degree in 1998 from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he graduated magna cum laude and number one in his class. Following college, Dr. Scanlan was accepted at the School of Dental Medicine at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He graduated from his studies there, cum laude, in 2002.
Upon completing dental school, Dr. Scanlan was commissioned into the U.S. Army as a captain assigned to the dental corps. During his first year in the Army, he completed the one-year Advanced General Dentistry Program at the United States Army Medical Department at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Following this additional training, he began a three-year assignment at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where he practiced general dentistry and ran his own clinic. During his training and service in the Army, Dr. Scanlan solidified his desire to make a difference in others lives through their smiles. This desire led him to a career in orthodontics.
In 2009, Dr. Scanlan completed a three-year post-doctoral Master of Science degree and certification in orthodontics at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. At the Mayo Clinic, he received state-of-the-art training in orthodontics, which gave him the expertise to produce results that will leave a smile on your face for a lifetime.
Dr. Scanlan is married to Amy Scanlan of Concord, North Carolina. The couple met in college at the University of North Carolina. They have two children, Hunter and Emma, and enjoy the Asheville communitys great family life.
Dr. Renee Carlson was born and raised in Michigan. She knew she wanted to be a dentist back in the seventh grade when she researched occupations for one of her classes. Dr. Carlson is a caring, compassionate person who loves being an orthodontist! Having a love for the mountains of North Carolina, she and her husband relocated after serving in the United States Air Force and joined the TS Orthodontics & Dental Specialists team in 2016. Both Dr. Carlson and her husband retired from active duty after serving 20+ years. Dr. Carlson lives by the Air Forces three core values of integrity, service before self and excellence in all you do and applies these values to every patient encounter. She is proud of the high-quality orthodontic services she has provided to the uniformed men and women serving our great nation.
Dr. Carlson received her bachelors degree in microbiology from the University of Michigan. She went on to earn her doctorate of dental science from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, followed by a one-year residency in general dentistry at the Medical College of Ohio. She was mentored by several military professors and decided to join the Air Force Dental Corps.
After seven years as a general dentist, Dr. Carlson attended the Tri-Service Orthodontic Residency Program in San Antonio, Texas, and became an orthodontist. After living coast to coast, north to south in the U.S., and being stationed overseas in South Korea and Italy, Dr. Carlson and her family love traveling and experiencing new places. They eventually chose to relocate to North Carolina, having spent many years vacationing and hiking in the beautiful mountains throughout the state.
Dr. Carlson is married to Dr. Matthew Bronk, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon with TS Orthodontics & Dental Specialists. They met in New Orleans early in their military career and have worked together in the same clinics almost their entire careers. Drs. Carlson, Bronk and their son Griffin are excited to live in North Carolina and enjoy all the great outdoor and family activities the area offers.
Dr. Matthew Bronk was born in Florida to a Navy A6 pilot. He was raised in Maryland and joined the United States Marine Corps after high school, where he served four years. While in the Marines, he competed for the All-Marine Wrestling Team for several years before attending college and dental school. After dental school, Dr. Bronk served over 20 years in the United States Air Force and is proud of the surgical services he provided to men and women in the U.S. military. He adheres to the Air Force core values of integrity, service before self and excellence in all you do in all aspects of his life.
After retiring from military service, Dr. Bronk and his wife, Dr. Renee Carlson also with TS Orthodontics & Dental Specialists decided to settle in North Carolina, having spent nearly two decades vacationing in the states western mountains.
Dr. Bronk received his bachelors degree from Southwest Missouri State University and then attended the Medical University of South Carolina for dental school. After graduating, his military esprit de corps drew him back, and he joined the Air Force Dental Corps. While in the Air Force, Dr. Bronk was deployed to Afghanistan and served the surgical needs of Americas uniformed servicemen and women. He also went on a humanitarian mission to Peru!
After several years as a general dentist, Dr. Bronk pursued his love of surgery and completed a residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Wayne State University School of Medicine/Detroit Medical Center in Michigan. As a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, his expertise includes wisdom teeth removal, orthognathic surgery, dental implantology and general anesthesia.
Dr. Bronk is married to Dr. Renee Carlson, and they have one son, Griffin. They met in New Orleans early in their military careers and have since worked together in the same clinics all over the United States. Together, they have completed over 300 life-changing orthognathic surgical cases.

Dr. Scanlan and his team is incredibly patient, kind and compassionate. My daughter has severe anxiety and he and his staff are so kind and extremely patient with her at every visit. She especially struggled at her last appointment and Dr. Scanlan went out of his way to reach out to me the next day to follow up and see how she's doing. I would HIGHLY recommend this office!

We were referred to Dr. Scanlan and team by our dentist because my son has some dental crowding. They were extremely friendly and professional. They didn't rush us into anything but gave us a complimentary consultation and advised a wait and see approach. If he needs braces in the future, they will definitely get our business!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! This is by far the BEST orthodontics practice we've EVER experienced!!! Everyone is so nice and they go above and beyond in ways that no healthcare practice ever has. Two years ago we moved to GA after living in Asheville for 15 years, and we STILL came to TS...It has been well worth the drives up every time. We love TS Orthodontics and everyone there! Thank you TS for being so wonderful!!!

As my son was growing up his teeth changed from his cute baby teeth to a pretty bad overbite. As his mother, I just thought he was the cutest little fellow out there. But as he got older his classmates started noticing his protruding upper two teeth and along with that came all the bullying and name-calling. This caused my son to become a bit of an introvert and not having many friends. When we heard about Dr. Scanlan and his grant that patients could apply for, we jumped on board and prayed that God would bless him with this opportunity. We had been to several orthodontists and could not afford the price of any of the organizations. We were over the moon when TS Orthodontist called and said my son was excepted for the grant. This was the best decision I have made for my son by far. The staff and Dr. Scanlan are AMAZING. They make you feel at home and the environment is so peaceful. Even COVID could not put a damper on the environment. They always meet you with their big smiles and kind words. The results that my son has received will make any mother cry tears of love and joy. I can't put into words the emotion and feeling my son has had with his new teeth that TS Orthodontist has worked hard at giving him. TS Orthodontist didn't only changing Brayden's life, they have given him the confidence and outgoing personality that he needed.

I was looking for an Orthodontist that was opened on Saturdays. I found out about TS Orthodontics through social media. The process to schedule an appointment was great. From the first time I was contacted by TS Orthodontics about scheduling til the day of my appointment it was an awesome experience. I don't live locally so I travelled from Greenville, SC which is a little over an hour from Asheville but it was so worth the drive. My consultation was great! The entire staff made me feel welcomed and genuinely showed they cared about me. I was disappointed that currently I'm not a candidate for Invisline due to some underlying health issues I have currently. I was definitely impressed by Dr.Scanlan focusing on what was truly best for my situation. My experience overall with TS Orthodontics was exceptional! I'll definitely be back when the time is right. I highly recommend them for your Orthodontic needs. *Brittany I got the follow up card and greatly appreciate you'll sending that note! I appreciate the gift bag you'll gave me as well! You guys rock!*

Easily the best care I have ever received not just in Ortho, but in any health care setting and that's not something I can say often (this is actually the first review I have ever felt moved to write). Dr.Scanlan and the staff really do care about the people they see there. I felt no pressure to rush into anything and was even encouraged to take extra time to think about the decision for braces. My smile is looking so much better. I had to move and continue my ortho care elsewhere. Their staff made the process of doing so much smoother than i could have ever asked for (and if you've moved across state, you know how how stressful, costly and tedious switching all your health providers can be). Aside from the care, but equally as important, I felt comfortable and safe as a transgender patient communicating my needs and truly respected for who I was. I cannot recommend Dr. Scanlan and the Asheville team enough if you're considering Ortho care there.

Dr. Scanlan and his team continue to provide excellent care for my little sister. She is so excited to get her braces off in a few weeks so she can show off her beautiful new smile for Christmas! We had a family tragedy hit recently, and the entire TS Orthodontics team made us feel supported and cared for, even though that wasn't expected. I highly recommend this office for orthodontic needs based on both their professionalism and the genuine care they have for their patients. 5 stars!

I was traveling from Tampa, Florida celebrating my one year wedding anniversary with my husband and our dogs. Of course I forgot the one thing I can't get at a Walmart- my retainer. I was concerned my teeth would shift over the 10+ days I'd be gone so was calling around Asheville for an orthodontics office. Not only did TS Orthodontics get me in within just a few hours from when I called but the cost of my Essix retainer was also very affordable. Bailey and the other staff were all very sweet and efficient. They used very impressive technology that has a 3D model of printing by scanning the your teeth/mouth which made for higher patient comfort than the mold we are all too familiar with. Highly recommend this place!
