Asheville, NC, orthodontist Dr. Timothy Scanlan is a warm, compassionate person who always puts his patients needs first. Dr. Scanlan is a board-certified orthodontist. He received his bachelors degree in 1998 from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he graduated magna cum laude and number one in his class. Following college, Dr. Scanlan was accepted at the School of Dental Medicine at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He graduated from his studies there, cum laude, in 2002.
Upon completing dental school, Dr. Scanlan was commissioned into the U.S. Army as a captain assigned to the dental corps. During his first year in the Army, he completed the one-year Advanced General Dentistry Program at the United States Army Medical Department at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Following this additional training, he began a three-year assignment at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where he practiced general dentistry and ran his own clinic. During his training and service in the Army, Dr. Scanlan solidified his desire to make a difference in others lives through their smiles. This desire led him to a career in orthodontics.
In 2009, Dr. Scanlan completed a three-year post-doctoral Master of Science degree and certification in orthodontics at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. At the Mayo Clinic, he received state-of-the-art training in orthodontics, which gave him the expertise to produce results that will leave a smile on your face for a lifetime.
Dr. Scanlan is married to Amy Scanlan of Concord, North Carolina. The couple met in college at the University of North Carolina. They have two children, Hunter and Emma, and enjoy the Asheville communitys great family life.
Dr. Renee Carlson was born and raised in Michigan. She knew she wanted to be a dentist back in the seventh grade when she researched occupations for one of her classes. Dr. Carlson is a caring, compassionate person who loves being an orthodontist! Having a love for the mountains of North Carolina, she and her husband relocated after serving in the United States Air Force and joined the TS Orthodontics & Dental Specialists team in 2016. Both Dr. Carlson and her husband retired from active duty after serving 20+ years. Dr. Carlson lives by the Air Forces three core values of integrity, service before self and excellence in all you do and applies these values to every patient encounter. She is proud of the high-quality orthodontic services she has provided to the uniformed men and women serving our great nation.
Dr. Carlson received her bachelors degree in microbiology from the University of Michigan. She went on to earn her doctorate of dental science from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, followed by a one-year residency in general dentistry at the Medical College of Ohio. She was mentored by several military professors and decided to join the Air Force Dental Corps.
After seven years as a general dentist, Dr. Carlson attended the Tri-Service Orthodontic Residency Program in San Antonio, Texas, and became an orthodontist. After living coast to coast, north to south in the U.S., and being stationed overseas in South Korea and Italy, Dr. Carlson and her family love traveling and experiencing new places. They eventually chose to relocate to North Carolina, having spent many years vacationing and hiking in the beautiful mountains throughout the state.
Dr. Carlson is married to Dr. Matthew Bronk, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon with TS Orthodontics & Dental Specialists. They met in New Orleans early in their military career and have worked together in the same clinics almost their entire careers. Drs. Carlson, Bronk and their son Griffin are excited to live in North Carolina and enjoy all the great outdoor and family activities the area offers.
Dr. Matthew Bronk was born in Florida to a Navy A6 pilot. He was raised in Maryland and joined the United States Marine Corps after high school, where he served four years. While in the Marines, he competed for the All-Marine Wrestling Team for several years before attending college and dental school. After dental school, Dr. Bronk served over 20 years in the United States Air Force and is proud of the surgical services he provided to men and women in the U.S. military. He adheres to the Air Force core values of integrity, service before self and excellence in all you do in all aspects of his life.
After retiring from military service, Dr. Bronk and his wife, Dr. Renee Carlson also with TS Orthodontics & Dental Specialists decided to settle in North Carolina, having spent nearly two decades vacationing in the states western mountains.
Dr. Bronk received his bachelors degree from Southwest Missouri State University and then attended the Medical University of South Carolina for dental school. After graduating, his military esprit de corps drew him back, and he joined the Air Force Dental Corps. While in the Air Force, Dr. Bronk was deployed to Afghanistan and served the surgical needs of Americas uniformed servicemen and women. He also went on a humanitarian mission to Peru!
After several years as a general dentist, Dr. Bronk pursued his love of surgery and completed a residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Wayne State University School of Medicine/Detroit Medical Center in Michigan. As a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, his expertise includes wisdom teeth removal, orthognathic surgery, dental implantology and general anesthesia.
Dr. Bronk is married to Dr. Renee Carlson, and they have one son, Griffin. They met in New Orleans early in their military careers and have since worked together in the same clinics all over the United States. Together, they have completed over 300 life-changing orthognathic surgical cases.
