Doctor Truong was born into a large family in Vietnam, she would be one of many people in her family going into the medical field. In 1991 she migrated to United States as a refugee. Despite the challenges facing her in a new country, Dr. Truong pursued an education at George Mason University, majoring in biology. Afterwards, she attended Boston University School of Dental Medicine in 1995 to 1999. In her first year, Dr. Truong became well-recognized among her professors and colleagues due to her cleverness in hand skills in aesthetic lab procedures; this allowed her to express leadership and guide her classmates through the lab. During her senior year at Boston University, Dr. Truong received a full tuition academic scholarship. She began as an associate in 1999, quickly gaining the trust and confidence of her colleagues and patients. In May 2004, she opened her first office in Alexandria, Shiny Dental. To ensure her practice is always modern and up to date, Dr. Truong attends continuing education courses yearly in areas such as Cosmetic dentistry, Orthodontics (Fastbraces/Invisalign) and, her favorite, Implantology. Dr. Truong is a family dentist, so she loves working with children and teaching them good oral habits with flossing and brushing. She makes sure to provide every child with brush, floss, and paste after every prophylaxis. Outside of the office, Dr. Truong enjoys gardening, traveling, cooking and going to the beach. She is married to Dr. Anh Bui who she met in the Vietnamese medical society in 1996. Together they have one wonderful child named Andy. Dr. Truong implemented the values she gained from having a family of her own into her work to ensure an authentic family dentist experience. She believes in treating patients with honesty and patience in the same way she would for her family, and that listening and being open-minded is the key to a successful outcome.

Nancy Nancy first started working with Dr. Truong in the winter of 2008. I was referred by my dentist for crown. Dr. Truong came in and didn't even greet and started to look at my teeth. She suggested cleaning, which I had done 2 weeks ago. She was very rough during the exam, because "it was hard to see". What can I do except opening my mouth as much as I can on dentist chair? She sent me for root canal. When I came back after root canal, same thing: does greet and started to look at my teeth. She was still so rough. She even didn't explain what she wants to do....After she numb my teeth, and did something, she left for another patient. I said to the dentist assistant" the Dr is rude". The Dr might overheard. When she came back to me, she said I was not respecting her and I refused treatment, which was cleaning. The only thing I said during my first visit was " I worked for a oral surgeon before. The oral surgeon said I can save my tooth and can do crown". She asked me to sign the paper that I didn't want her service anymore. I did. I work at a hospital, too. Health care providers should not only be good at their profession, but also respect their patients and consider their well being. I definitely don't recommend this dentist.

This was the best experience I have ever had at a dentist office. Tina is magnificent. Angela is incredible and Maria is phenomenal. If there was an opportunity to put 10 stars I would. I am recommending their team to everyone I know. Thanks for your awesome, immaculate service.

I wish giving 0 stars was an option. What a terrible experience. And I wasn't even started with the actual process. The x-ray was weird and scraped my gums. The x-ray was supposed to lay in your mouth so it can get a good view of the tooth, but instead, she shoved it down my throat forcefully until I gagged. It was terrible. The dentist is so unprofessional, she was raising her voice (I'm a minor btw), she wasn't willing to give me answers to my questions, she wasn't willing to have an effective conversation and she went on to "help" without even looking at the form to see any medicine I took or allergies. I was just letting her do her thing because she is a dentist but that didn't end well. She re-prescribed an antibiotic that I already was taking. Thank God I saw it before I left because it would've been bad if I just took her word for it. She is so focused on the money to the point she didn't even want to hear my problems. I don't recommend this, take care!

Tina Truong is the WORST dentist on the planet! I went to her to get my teeth checked because of a pain I've had for a while. First off, before asking what happened to me, she started listing prices. As a minor, I had to go there with a parent. She ordered my parent to stay out of the room when I told the dentist I was in pain while she was trying to take an x-ray in my mouth. She did about three takes by a student assistant, which was extremely painful. She pushed it down my throat. Then the assistant gave up and passed me on to the dentist. Troung forced it down my mouth and scraped my gums until it bled! I told her to stop and motioned my hand for her to take it out. She proceeded to slap my hand away and took the x-ray out of my mouth. The procedure was TERRIBLE! After the x-ray, she just kept talking. We couldn't understand each other because she couldn't properly speak English. She was about to continue with the procedure to extract my tooth without even letting me speak. I cut her off to ask a question and all she said was "let me finish". I did let her finish and when I asked her at the end, she just got up and left. She was so rude and unhelpful! And finally, this is being discussed by my parents lawyer and this is reported to BBB. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS DENTIST!

WORST DENTIST EVER. BEWARE. I went in to see Dr. Troung for tooth discomfort/pain. The office staff were a little catty - overheard them talking about how it was "going to be one of THOSE kinds of days" because I made an emergency appointment first thing that morning when they opened. I explained on my intake form, to the assistant & to Dr. Troung what was going on & that I had being experiencing pain & discomfort in my tooth for a couple of days & that I thought there was an infection. They took Xrays & she determined that I needed a major dental procedure and then she proceeded with a CLEANING PROCEDURE without telling me what she was doing. I assumed that I was being treated for the infected tooth-- the MAIN REASON I listed for the appointment! After doing a very rough/uncomfortable and sloppy job of cleaning my teeth, the pain and discomfort in my abscessed tooth became unbearable and I requested that she numb me before proceeding with anything else. She said she would, but that the numbing would only last for 2 hours (it did not last that long).Typically, before you're given the numbing shot, a dentist will pre-numb the injection area with novocaine for about 10 minutes because the injection itself is very painful without it. She literally swiped a cotton swab with a dab of some creme on it beside my tooth and then immediately proceeded to pull out a syringe in order to inject my mouth without waiting for the numbing creme to take effect. (She ended up injecting the back of my mouth no where near the tooth OR where she placed the pre-numbing creme.) I started to become a bit anxious when I saw the needle and realised that she wasn't even going to wait for the numbing to take effect. Shortly thereafter, I started to experience a MAJOR panic attack because while she was trying to reach inside of my mouth she stabbed me in the chin with it bc she wasn't paying attentionto what she was doing. She acted like it was my fault and told me to be still, but I saw how she looked at the assistant after she did it, as if to say "Omg, I just screwed up." I immediately screamed out in pain and she proceeded to grab my face & hold me down while injecting the back of my mouth, which caused excruciating pain and caused my panic attack to become even worse. I was holding onto her assistant's hand for dear life bc I couldn't breathe, I couldn't see from the tears pouring out of my eyes. All the while, she's putting pressure on my chest/shoulder/arm to hold me down, telling me to breathe through my nose, wiping tears from my eyes, wiping the blood from my chin. It was humiliating how terrifying that experience was & all I could do was keep saying I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'm not even sure why I was the one apologising-- I think I was in shock from the pain & the fear. I became nauseated & hot. My heart was racing & I thought I was going to faint. I couldn't catch my breath from hyperventilating & it was made worse by the feeling of being held down. After that, I thought that they were going to finish working on the tooth that I ACTUALLY came in for- NOPE! She explained to me that she was referring me to an oral surgeon due to the severity of the damage to my tooth (infection and nerve exposure). All I'm thinking is that she could've done that after the xrays & exam without all of the other stuff I had just experienced. That was ENTIRELY PAINFUL, UNNECESSARY & NOT WHY I CAME IN! She brought the referral to me & I asked her if she would prescribe medication-- antibiotics for the infection & something for the pain-- in order to get me through until I could see the oral surgeon in a couple of days. She said NO & told me NOT to take any pain medication because I would build up a tolerance and then it wouldn't work when I needed it to. I called her office back later to request meds once again bc the numbing wore off & I was in really bad pain again She Rx'd Ibuprofen and Antibiotics. I called back the next A.M. bc the ibuprofen wasn't working and she told me to go to the ER. No continuity of care. Nothing!

Where do I even begin... A little background info... My previous dentist was awful and didn't tell me I had some cavities forming, so this cavity I had was there for awhile. The first time I went into Tina Truong's office she told me I had a couple of cavities that were deep because they were there for a good amount of time. I already knew that I had a couple that I needed to get fixed, and was okay with that. Before going in today I was in no pain at all. Well, I went in and had them fixed by her and afterwards I was in a tremendous amount of pain. I mentioned it to her and her other staff member multiple times. I even asked her if it was normal to be in this much pain, and she blamed it on sensitivity. It hurt so bad I started to tear up, but went with it. This was all after she told me that I was probably going to lose the teeth anyway, so I was doing my best to keep my cool. As I was checking out I smiled at the lady who was working the desk and a shooting pain went up and around my jaw. I let the lady at the front desk know and they took me back to look at it again. At this point I was full on crying and couldn't stop because it hurt so bad. (I have a really high pain tolerance too) I needed time to calm down, and both the nurse and Tina Truong were all in my face telling me to stop crying. They said they would fix it and gave me more novocaine. (All while they were still in my face, and I was still freaking out) She proceeded to rip some of the filling out that she had just finished and that was it. She told me to come back if I thought it needed to be pulled and gave me papers In case I needed a root canal. Well, hours go by and the Novocain wears off. I'm still in a lot of pain and go back to get the tooth pulled. I show up and they refused to pull it. Something about my root all of a sudden being too curved. Apparently, she didn't look at my x-ray before telling me to come back if I had any problems. Huge waist of time. She finished with prescribing me pain medicine to help me get through the weekend... Looking at the tooth now, it's awful. There is a hole where she ripped out the filling and the whole tooth is really sharp. If I could show a picture of what it looks like I would. It doesn't even resemble the shape that it was previously, and now I have to go to another dentist to fix her mistake. Some extra stuff that you should know: 1. She is rude and demanding to her staff. 2. She will tell you multiple times that your teeth/ mouth are messed up through your whole visit. My examples: "your mouth is very small", and "your cavity is very deep" 3. She does not listen to you what so ever. 4. She doesn't check your file to make sure you are allergic to anything before prescribing medication. (Had to go back in because she prescribed me something that I was allergic to) Moral of the story. Find a different dentist.
