Growing up, Dr. Straw always participated in sports and, as a result, had his share of sports-related injuries. He underwent physical therapy and treatment frequently, which sparked his interest in the human body and how it functions. This inspired him to pursue a career in health care. He originally attended college for physical therapy, but decided to switch paths and attend dental school with his best friend.

While in dental school, Dr. Straw became interested in oral surgery. To Dr. Straw, oral surgery is the perfect combination of art, dentistry, and anatomy and his interest in taking things apart and putting them back together.

Dr. Straw finds it rewarding to alleviate a patients fear and restore their confidence. He wants patients to feel comfortable and takes the time needed to make sure they dont feel afraid or worried about treatment. Dr. Straw loves the art of oral surgery, and his special interests lie within orthognathic surgery and the challenge of complex procedures. As an oral surgeon who has undergone lower jaw surgery himself, he can relate to orthognathic surgery patients. As a patient, you can expect to be educated and feel prepared throughout treatment and rely on open communication from Dr. Straw and his staff.

Dr. Straw earned a bachelor's degree in exercise physiology from Brigham Young University, where he played football and received the Western Athletic Academic Award for outstanding academic and athletic performance. He attended dental school at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry and graduated magna cum laude.

For his 4-year oral surgery residency, Dr. Straw gained hands-on surgical experience at Loma Linda University Medical Center and affiliated hospitals. During this time, he was trained on how to safely administer anesthesia and sedation. He has participated in Mission of Mercy projects and cleft lip and palate reconstruction at the Craniofacial Specialty Clinic at Loma Linda University in San Bernardino, California.

Dr. Straw loves spending time with his wife and eight children. He enjoys DIY and home improvement projects and admires the process of creationtaking something and making it better, both surgically and in other areas of life. Dr. Straw is also fluent in Spanish.

Dr. Hsu is from Pampanga, Philippines and grew up in Southern California after she immigrated to the United States at the age of 4. She pursued oral surgery because it emphasizes the clinical management of the patient as a whole while providing curative and life-changing outcomes. As an oral surgeon, Dr. Hsu is able to integrate the disciplines of medicine, dentistry, and surgery, and provide the highest standard of care.

When searching for a practice to join, she wanted a positive work environment that utilizes state-of-the-art technology. She is eager to be a part of True Oral, Facial & Dental Implant Surgery where she can contribute to a welcoming atmosphere and optimal clinical outcomes. Dr. Hsu finds it most rewarding to make a positive impact in someones health and their life overall.

Dr. Hsu understands the nervousness that surgery can sometimes cause. She helps patients overcome these feelings by acknowledging their concerns, carefully listening to their needs, and providing them with all of the information they need to understand their condition and make informed decisions. Often, she shares her personal experiences as a patient to empathize with others and show they are not alone. Dr. Hsu reassures every patient that she is dedicated to their safety and providing a positive oral surgery experience.

Dr. Hsu earned a BS in kinesiology from the University of California Los Angeles in 1991. She earned her DDS from the NYU College of Dentistry in 1997 and completed her oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in 2010. Dr. Hsu continued her education and earned a Masters in Strategic Studies (MSS) from the US Army War College in 2019.

Dr. Hsu loves exploring new places, going to the local farmers market, and watching live musicals with her family. Three fun facts about her are that she was deployed on the USNS Mercy (Naval Hospital Ship) throughout Asia and the South Pacific in 2015, she was selected as the 2019 UCLA Filipino Alumnus of the Year, and she is both an Army and Navy veteran.

My experience at True Oral Surgery was honestly terrible and traumatic. Please, consider a different office if you need oral surgery! I nearly never write reviews, but I feel compelled to do so to help others get the treatment they deserve. The day of my surgery (which was a routine preventative removal of all four of my wisdom teeth), I walked into the office where the front office ladies were frankly blunt and rude. I was then taken back to the surgery room and seated, during which not even one of the five dental assistants spoke ONE WORD to me. NO ONE comforted/reassured me as they placed monitors on my chest and shined bright lights on me, and I naturally began to feel very scared and anxious. The doctor came in, muttered a hello, silently hooked up an IV to my arm, and then I fell asleep. What I remember next is waking up in the car on my way home, crying and sobbing and frantic about whether I was ok. My mom, who came to pick me up after surgery, said that I was outside the building in a wheelchair (crying) when she came to get me! Dr. Straw never even bothered to inform her of how the surgery went. They just seemed eager to send me home, even though I clearly wasn't completely awake, nor in a good emotional state, after the anesthesia. A few days later, I realized my stitches weren't dissolving as they should be, and they were causing me tremendous pain. I scheduled an appointment and while the assistants were able to resolve the issue, the doctor did not even come to check what had happened. The doctor NEVER even looked at my mouth post-surgery--his assistants did all the post-op procedures. I understand and am grateful that my surgery went well without any major complications, but I really did not appreciate how Dr. Straw never even checked anything post-op. It made me feel very insecure about my healing process. To put it in perspective, I don't even know what Dr. Straw looks like--I have seen him (awake) for only 10 seconds total! On top of all of this, it took me several weeks to recover and resume regular eating. I couldn't even open my mouth, let alone eat solid foods, for days afterward due to extreme swelling...WHICH IS NOT NORMAL. Please consider all of my experiences while also acknowledging that I am a dental assistant. In my experience, a good dentist ALWAYS consults with the patient and his/her family after the procedure is complete and is ALWAYS present at post-operation appointments. I was really disappointed in True Oral Surgery's lack of compassionate care, especially the doctor's absence/lack of interest. There are many other oral surgery offices in EDH and Folsom where the doctors, assistants, and support staff actually go above and beyond to ensure that the patient is informed, comfortable, and taken care of...which I never experienced at True Oral Surgery. Please explore other options!

I put off getting wisdom teeth pulled for probably 10 years. We can all guess why. Day of the surgery came and I was anxious. The office is incredibly luxurious and very welcoming and clean which made me relax. It's bright, it's clean, it's high end. It's not crowded or loud or covered in brown wall paper. Went to the surgery room and everyone was super nice and informative, got an IV and went to sleep and what seemed like a blink of an eye was out to my car. I didn't feel a thing and only woke up when they were done. It's been a few hours now and the numbness is gone and I have hardly any swelling and the soreness is truly minimal. Dr straw and his team are super nice and very VERY professional. Awesome work. I have heard so many bad stories about dentists which put me off. Going to an oral surgeon over a general dentist was the best decision I have made. Dr Straw and his staff are top notch. Hopefully I don't need any more future work, but if I ever do, I'll be coming back.

Staff was wonderful. They kept me informed and always had a smile. Dr. Straw was excellent and the wisdom tooth extractions he completed for me were nearly painless. I would never go anywhere else.

Last year I went to Dr. Straw for a single tooth pull, bone graph and implant on a bottom tooth that went perfectly. Later I had a single upper tooth pull with a bone graph in preparation for an implant. And then three weeks ago I had Dr. Straw do a major upper arch surgery with full tooth pulls (x12) with six implants with bone graphs all in preparation for a implant secured palateless overdenture. I decided to do it under local anesthetic so I could drive home myself and avoid the general anesthetic recovery which I generally dislike. The surgery was quick (45 min to 1 hr) and went without a hitch. He was able to place all the implants into existing bone as well as re-enforce spaces around the implants with bone graphing material. Of note is that this office uses a bone graph technique where they use your own blood to create the graphing material used. The graphing material created in this process heals much faster (months faster) than the standard graphing material that you get at your typical dentists office that doesn't use your own blood. Summary: Dr. Straw certainly knows what he's doing and is an expert at knowing how to numb even the most stubborn patients, of which I am one. He uses some of the most advanced tech to speed healing and the recovery from his surgeries have never required me to take much of anything more than Tylenol for pain during recovery. Finally, my most recent procedure would have been 40% more expensive that would have put it out of my reach, but Dr. Straw offered a reduced, full arch done all-at-once, price that allowed me to do it all at a much lower price. He even offered a cash discount which finally made it something I could afford. Most other dental surgeons that I contacted do not work so amicably with their patients on costs. And even with the lower price, Dr. Straw did not skimp on the quality, or quantity (six implants,) of my surgery which I am thankful for. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with True Oral, Facial & Dental Implant Surgery and Dr. Straw made my experience pleasurable, affordable and worry free. As I continue to heal and finish the procedure in four months, I will update this review.

My daughter recently had her wisdom teeth removed, and this team was so great. Their consultation prior to her surgery was very thorough, their care before her surgery provided her a great deal of comfort, and their multiple follow up calls since to check in on her have been wonderful. I would highly recommend them for any oral surgery needs.

Two day process to remove two upper erupted Wisdom Teeth Day 1: Scheduled a consultation which involved a quick x-ray, feedback on procedure and pricing estimate. Quick and easy. Scheduled appointment for 2 weeks later. Day 2: Arrived and didn't take long to get settled in. Since I was given anesthesia, appointment felt super quick. No problems with the 10 day recovery process and the recovery instructions were informative and helpful.
