Upon graduation he was elected to membership in Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society. After practicing general dentistry for six years, he returned to MCG for a two-year residency in orthodontics and has been in the private practice of orthodontics since 1981.

Dr. Trotter participates in 40-50 hours of continuing education each year in order to provide the best and most efficient treatment techniques for his patients. He is also a part-time assistant professor of orthodontics at Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University.

Dr. Trotter is one of 30% of the nations orthodontists who have achieved certification by the American Board of Orthodontics. He is past president of Augusta Dental Society, The Dental College of Georgia Alumni Society, and The Dental College of Georgia Orthodontic Alumni Association. He is a recipient of the MCG School of Dentistry Distinguished Alumnus Award and the Georgia Dental Association Honorable Fellow Award.

Dr. Trotter is a member of the Augusta Area Chamber of Commerce, Columbia County Chamber of Commerce, and St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church. He is an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan and enjoys playing golf-- especially with his sons and grandchildren.

Growing up watching his father practice, Dr. Paul Trotter knew this was a career he wanted to pursue. Dr. Paul earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Furman University where he was a member of the varsity mens golf team. He earned a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from the Medical College of Georgia followed by a certificate in Advanced General Dentistry from the University of Mississippi. Dr. Paul completed his education by earning his specialized orthodontic certification from The Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University (formerly MCG).

Dr. Paul is honored to work with his father providing excellent orthodontic care to their patients. Paul continues to hone his skills with 40-50 hours of study a year around the latest in orthodontic procedures and patient care. No. All orthodontists must be licensed to practice, but at this time only 1 in 3 orthodontists have continued on to complete Board Certification. The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) certification process signifies a unique achievementa significant step beyond the two to three years of advanced education required for a dentist to become a specialist in orthodontics. The process requires the orthodontist to demonstrate actual accomplishments in patient care with detailed case reports on the treatment provided for a broad range of patient problems. Board certification is a voluntary achievement that all orthodontists do not choose to pursue. In order to become certified by the ABO, an orthodontist must demonstrate his or her orthodontic knowledge, clinical skills, and judgement to a highly respected panel of examiners chosen by the ABO.

One. The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) is the only certifying board in the specialty that is recognized by the American Dental Association. The ABO was founded in 1929 and is the oldest specialty board in dentistry. The boards purpose is to elevate the quality of orthodontic care for the public by promoting excellence through certification, education and professional collaboration.

Successful completion of the examination process demonstrates the orthodontists highest commitment to excellence in orthodontics to both the orthodontic profession and the general public. It represents a commitment by a licensed specialist that he/she has the necessary knowledge base and skills to treat patients to the highest of standards. It exemplifies a practitioners commitment to continue to keep abreast of the latest advances in patient care, and to continue to deliver these latest advances to patients. Many orthodontists see it as a demonstration of their dedication to the specialty and the highest level of personal achievement.

Since the establishment of the ABO in 1929, the certification process requirements have continued to adjust to the demands of the specialty. Today, the process involves a thoroughWritten Examination (240 questions)covering all areas of information which an orthodontist should be knowledgeable. Successful completion of this board exam allows the orthodontist to proceed to theClinical Examinationwhere they present detailed case reports from their practice/residency, demonstrating a history of excellence in patient care. These cases are evaluated by a panel of examiners and later discussed during an oral examination where the applicant is tested on a wide variety of academic and clinical topics. After successful completion of these examinations, the orthodontist has officially achieved Board Certification, for a time-limited period. The orthodontist must go throughCertification Renewal every 10 yearsto maintain their certification status by demonstrating this continued level of patient care.

My daughter has been going to Trotter for the last 20 months or so for braces and it was a great experience ! The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is comfortable. My daughter looked forward to her appointments and is happy to have a straight smile! In almost 2 years of appointments the only minor complaint I could have was no one coming to talk to me the day she got them off, as a Mom I want to be fully in the know from the staff but my daughter was able to answer the majority of my questions. I highly recommend Trotter, you will not be disappointed !

I've had nothing but great experiences with Dr. Paul and the entire Trotter Orthodontics staff. They're always punctual, pleasant and happy to help in any way! I've had my infant with me during most of my visits and the entire staff is so welcoming that she even enjoys their interactions. Will absolutely be bringing my children to Trotter Orthodontics when they're of need for ortho care.

I finally got my braces put on yesterday after Trotter Orthodontics closed down their office due to Covid 19. I can tell they truly care about their patients. What really made me smile is that I got a follow up phone call from Dr. Trotter just to check on me to see how I was doing. I would really recommend them!! THEY ARE AMAZING! I wish all my medical experiences were this way!
