Permanent teeth will begin to grow around age 6, and except for wisdom teeth, are all present between ages 12 and 14. The next teeth to grow in are the 12-year molars and finally the wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth typically begin breaking through from age 17 and on. The total number of permanent teeth is 32, though few people have room for all 32 teeth. This is why wisdom teeth are usually removed.

Your front teeth are called incisors. The sharp fang-like teeth are canines. The next side teeth are referred to as pre-molars or bicuspids, and the back teeth are molars. Your permanent teeth are the ones you keep for life, so it is vital that they are brushed and flossed regularly and that periodic check-ups by a dentist are followed.

I have a gap due to a poorly made crown causing pain. I tried to schedule an appointment with receptionist. The receptionist refused to schedule me because I only wanted x-rays for area of crown. Dentists are quick to point out how safe x-rays are but ignorant to the increase of thyroid cancer since safe x-rays became all the rage. I experience choking off and on for months after getting dental xrays and felt it reasonable to say "I don't want full month x-rays". I don't know if any of the dentists would be ok with that as I was unable to get past the person answering the phone.

Dr. Lyons was fantastic! I was referred to her from a friend as I was looking for a second opinion. Another local dentist said I "needed" a ton of work. Dr. Lyons was honest and trustworthy. She advised me on what I truly needed, saving me time, money, and unnecessary drilling on my teeth. Thank you again!
