Our team utilizes advanced technology to provide patients with minimally invasive procedures that result in customized treatment plans, faster healing time, and less pain and discomfort than traditional methods.

Traditional periodontal care and treatment often involved messy surgery that took many weeks and sometimes months to heal. Gum tissue that needed to be repaired required extensive cutting and suturing, extending healing time and resulting in greater pain and anxiety for patients.

Those days are gone! With our advanced technology, patients now experience a relaxed, gentle, and minimally invasive procedures that result in the smiles they have always wanted. There is little pain, reduced discomfort, and almost no need to cut or suture delicate gum tissue.

While dental implants are a beautiful and natural-looking way to replace missing teeth, they can take time to heal. Dr. Tanner provides patients with the option of Immediate Load Dental Implants. This state of the art procedure offers patients both the beauty and convenience of a restored smile.

The field of periodontics appeals to me for two reasons. I mostly enjoy working with patients to overcome obstacles to excellent dental health and function. The specialty also appeals to me because it requires a gentle touch along with precision and technical skills. Not too long ago, it was a foregone conclusion that part of the aging process meant increasing dental problems and loss of teeth. We are now able to restore function and esthetics like never before and can offer patients alternatives to accomplish these goals.

I find it rewarding to help preserve and enhance the foundations for my patients smiles using the most innovative techniques for treating periodontal disease such as regenerative soft-tissue and bone grafting, site preservation and dental implants. I know that periodontal surgical procedures can be new and intimidating, so I always take the time to explain the condition and treatment options in plain language. My friendly, knowledgeable staff and I treat every patient with the kindness, respect and excellent focused care they deserve.

Periodontics is a specialty that I greatly admire and am committed to excelling in. The surgical side of dentistry has long held a great appeal to me, and periodontics is a field that mirrors my own clinical philosophy of patient individuality, proper case selection, and thorough treatment planning. There is never one course of treatment that will work the same way for every patient, and I am committed to working with each patient to determine the path that is right for them.

Like many fields in dentistry, periodontics is rapidly evolving, and it is exciting to be able to provide the latest research and technology on a daily basis to our patients. I believe that all patients deserve the highest level of care possible, and I am dedicated to the continuous learning process to be able to provide exactly that to all those who entrust their care to us. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with all of our patients to accomplish their treatment goals.

Periodontics is the specialty of dentistry focusing on the supporting structures of the teeth, including the gums, jaw bone, tooth roots, and the thin ligaments surrounding the teeth. Periodontal disease takes on many forms, but is usually a result of a bacterial infection in the gums. Untreated, it often leads to bone loss, tooth loss, and may contribute to the progression of the systemic diseases listed above. Periodontists treat diseases of the gums and can replace lost teeth with dental implants.

Our doctors and their team use advanced technology that is minimally invasive and, many times, does not require any cutting or suturing. Patients often feel very little pain, discomfort, or down time, and are able to return quickly to their regular activities. We also offer specific post-operative instructions for optimal healing.

Absolutely. Most procedures will not interfere with normal work, especially if cold drinks can be consumed to minimize swelling. The exception would be a job that entails strenuous physical activity. Talking is generally not a problem once the numbness wears off.

When the gum tissue recedes, the bone level recedes with it, which can result in loose or missing teeth. The resulting exposed root surface is much softer than the enamel of the crown and can be worn away with normal brushing and is much more susceptible to decay. Exposed root surfaces can cause extreme sensitivity and can lead to problems requiring treatment such as root canals and crowns. In extreme cases, recession can result in tooth loss.

Most Americans only need to have their teeth cleaned every 6-12 months. However, when someone has periodontal disease, teeth cleanings and oral exams need to occur more frequently for good dental health. Numerous studies have shown that the germs and bacteria that cause periodontal disease can cause destruction of bone (resulting in deeper pockets) in as little as three months. By disrupting the germs and bacteria by thorough periodontal maintenance every three months, the bone destruction can be stopped and the bone support can be preserved. Periodontal treatment without routine follow-up can fail.

Implants give us the possibility of restoring function without cutting down adjacent teeth. They feel and function normally, although they need good home care just like teeth. The success rate of titanium implants is over 95% and there is no chance of future tooth decay.

Most periodontal procedures require sutures. These are dissolvable and will usually come out by themselves in 5-10 days. It is important not to disturb them with your tongue or toothbrush so that they can some out naturally after they have served their function.

There are almost as many different insurance policies as there are patients and they all have different levels of coverage. Our experience is that they cover similar for periodontics what they do for other dental procedures. Our talented staff works hard to maximize your insurance benefits and to send any requested information the day the request is received. If you have questions about your particular insurance policy, often times your human resource personnel can tell you what is covered and at what levels.

As a veteran in a dental chair, I've never felt so comfortable in such a tough procedure. The communication and "chair side manner" has far exceeded any other of my experiences. From the moment I called to set up (against all desire) to the follow up call from Dr. Tanner; I felt respected and appreciated as a patient. Prices are high and unfortunately the culture dentistry has taken but it's better when a staff and doc are so efficient and kind.
