Dr. Leighton Wood is an orthodontist with offices in Kingsport, TN and Bristol, VA. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Middle Tennessee State University and his dental degree from the University of Tennessee. His orthodontic residency and Master of Science degree were completed at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He retired in the rank of full Colonel from the United States Air Force after 20 years service as an orthodontist and an orthodontic educator.
Dr. Wood is board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics and is a member of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics, the American Association of Orthodontists, and the American Dental Association.
Dr. Wood is one of the most experienced and leading providers in the Tri-Cities area of Invisalign and Invisalign Teen clear aligners. He was recognized by Invisalign as a Premier Elite Provider, meaning he has treated more than 1500 Invisalign cases and starts about 150 new cases each year. He is an Elite Provider and one of the largest Invisalign Teen providers in the area.

I graduated from Northeast State Dental Assisting Program in 2012 and joined Dr. Woods team shortly after. As one of our assistants, I provide oral hygiene instruction and give our patients the confidence to smile. There is nothing I like more than seeing the results of completed treatment and how much confidence our patients have after they get out of braces.
I have worked for Dr. Wood since I graduated from Northeast State Dental Assisting program in 2005. I find orthodontics to be a very fun and rewarding field to work in. I enjoy getting to know each and every patient. My favorite part about my job is seeing how much patients change and gain confidence throughout their treatment.
When Im not at work, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, being on the lake or doing anything that involves being outside. I am also the proud mom of one cat, Lucy, and two dogs, Brody and Wiz.
I am the office manager for Tri-Cities Orthodontic Specialists and have been with Dr. Wood since he opened the office 15 years ago. I am also a registered dental assistant and have been in the orthodontic field since 1987. My career has been very rewarding, and I am happy to be a part of creating beautiful and healthy smiles for people of all ages.
Im married with two daughters, Paisley who is four and Taylor who is 13. We have two dogs, a poodle named Macie and golden retriever named Zeus, two gold fish, and a bearded dragon named Smokey. As a family, we love UT football and enjoy going to Knoxville to watch them play. We also like to hike and go four-wheeling.
I have worked in Orthodontics for 12 years. I joined Dr. Woods team about a year ago. My most favorite part of working as an orthodontic assistant is meeting new people and watching their beautiful smile being created.
Ive been married to my high school sweetheart for 15 years and we have 2 boys Brycen and Hudcen. I have a 1 dog Stella and a cat Clarabell. I have lived on a farm my entire life where we raise beef cattle & chickens. In my free time I love spending time with my family, shopping, and hanging out on the lake or at the beach.
I graduated from Wytheville Community College in 2015 and have been working in dentistry since. I started working here at Dr. Woods office going on two years ago, and found out orthodontics is my passion! I love meeting new people and seeing our patients love their new smile. I love my job and my work family!
My husband Logan and I have been married for two years, and we are expecting our sweet baby girl Saylor in December. We have one dog, a Great Dane named Kane. In our free time we love traveling and visiting new places, taking our jeep off road riding, and spending time with our families!
I have worked in the Dental field since 2018 and my position as an Orthodontic assistant has been most rewarding. I enjoy getting to working with people of all ages. Im proud to be apart of a team that succeeds in giving their patients the confidence to wear their best smile.
I have always enjoyed going to the dentist and orthodontist as a child! Once I was given the opportunity to become a dental assistant, I knew it was the perfect fit for me. I attended MECCs Dental Assisting Program in 2021. Shortly upon graduating, I joined Dr. Woods team. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with such an outstanding dental team at Tri-Cities Orthodontics! As a dental assistant, I look forward to helping others achieve a confident and beautiful smile! During my time at Tri-Cities Orthodontics, I thoroughly enjoy seeing the excitement on a patients face when they reach their desired smile!
I have been a dental assistant since 2019, starting off in general dentistry, but finding my way to orthodontics at Dr. Woods office. I love meeting and becoming friends with all my patients - and watching them fall in love with their new smile!!

My son's teeth was well taken care of at Tri Cities Orthodontics.. Everyone was always very friendly and was always ready to answer any questions or concerns that you may have.. thanks so much. I would highly recommend Tri Cities Orthodontics.

Both my kids have braces at the moment, both the doctors and staff are always willing to talk with me about there progress or answer any questions I may have. They are always friendly and helpful I highly recommend Tri Cities Orthodontics to anyone. They have made, for both my kids, having braces a pleasant experience so far. We can't wait to see there smile once treatment is finished!. Also they have very manageable payment plans very good to work with seeing how I have two in braces. They also work with our schedules to get them in the same appointment times since we have to drive almost 2 hours to get to the office. Well worth the drive!!!

UPDATE: 12.25.18 They are working with me to get these issues resolved! Original Post: Not impressed. I had to get my braces off a little bit early last year due to a move, I got half my to my destination and my retainer kept falling out. When I came back 2 months later after seeing an orthodontist at my last destination I came back to them. They seen the problem with the gap between my 2 front teeth, and bc the hauly retainer didn't work, they made a Essex retainer for me for $50 then they kept adjusting it but it still wouldn't stay in. So the last visit I had, at the beginning of my visit I was told I would get a wire behind my 2 front teeth, but by the end of the appointment another dr said I couldnt bc that wouldnt fit right either. So I asked what my options were and they said to keep wearing the retainer that kept falling out and that there was nothing they could do. I never had an issue with them until I got my braces off. So needless to say, I'm stuck with gaps between my teeth and I'm out thousands of dollars. Thanks Tri Cities Orthodontists!

Very disappointed with their service and the staff. They don't return phone calls, or do follows up. Have to chase them down to even talk to them. I called and spoke with Jessica in the business office in Johnson City location, and she had a very bad attitude over the phone. My son has special needs, and they didn't even pay attention to any of his or our needs. Misfiled the claim with his insurance which resulted in denial and delay in his treatment for 5 months. After letting them know and requesting to speak to Dr. Woods or their office manager, they never returned my call. Took my son to another Orthodontist and insurance approved right away after the appeal. They told me Dr. Woods Office did not send supporting documents, which I reminded them personally 4-5 times and was bluntly told that it's been done. Obviously it wasn't which resulted in denial. If you have a child with special needs, please save your time and look for another doctor who would appreciate you as a patient and will show concern for your child's needs.

Worse place I've ever been to....What kind of doctor lies about submitting the papers so your insurance would cover it so my child could get help then when asked to submit the papers the SNOBBY NURSE said she didn't feel like it....

They are wonderful. They have worked with us in so many ways to make it possible for my daughter to get her braces and their service is great. They are always so kind and professional . I would highly recommend them and have already recommended them to others.
