I chose to become a dentist when I was 14, because of my great dentist. He was able to enjoy building relationships with people while working with his hands and providing services that improved patients quality of life.
Now, having practiced dentistry for over 30 years, I remain enthusiastic about profession. It is an honor to serve my community, getting to know individuals and helping each lead a healthier, more enjoyable life.
After growing up near the Oregon border, in Payette, Idaho, Dr. Young attended the Creighton School of Dentistry, in Omaha, Nebraska. He graduated with his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1989 and, after visiting several Oregon communities, decided to establish his practice in Salem.
Dr. Young opened West Salem Dentist, Exceptional Family & Implant Dentistry in July 1991. Over the years, he and his team have built a reputation for providing high-quality, personalized dental care for children through great-grandparents. They are especially proud of the long-term relationships they grow with those in their care, sharing in peoples lives while helping each attain and maintain their best oral health.
Since graduating from dental school, Dr. Young has sought out a range of continuing education opportunities to stay abreast of the latest techniques, technologies, and research. By constantly studying and evaluating new developments, he is able to incorporate the best options those that improve the patient experience and outcome into his practice.
Continuing education has also allowed Dr. Young to broaden the services offered in-house, including dental implants and restorations. In attending meetings, lectures, and seminars, and staying current on the latest journals, he ensures each patient receives the high-quality dental care they deserve.
Giving back to others, and helping the underserved, are important to Dr. Young. He volunteers with the local dental van, providing care for those without regular access to oral healthcare. He has also participated in dental service trips to Ecuador, Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, and Israel. Additionally, he is active in community service through his church.
Dr. Young and his family have resided in West Salem since 1994; he and his wife, Kaye, are pleased to have raised their five children in this community. With four children now grown and having children of their own, and their youngest a senior at West Salem High School, much of Dr. Youngs free time is spent with his loved ones.

A very positive experience. Staff are warm and friendly, able to get appointments in a reasonable time frame, attention to detail, patient's needs and comfort. Having had some poor experiences in the past, it was important to me to feel like I could trust the work Dr Young was doing. Thank you!

I'm not very happy about them being clear and honest regarding whether they were in or out of network with our insurance. It's a yes or no question. Instead there were a lot of words and implications that we were in network when they knew right from the start that we were not. It left us feeling taken advantage of and would have left us with massive bills after we quickly exceeded the out of network annual limit. Our fault for not verifying with insurance first and taking the dental receptionists word for it. Edit: 4 months after services were rendered and copay's/insurance paid, this office has begun harassing us over an additional $36 that they have decided insurance or our copay magically didn't pay way back then. My wife and I went in for like a single visit each and realized they were insanely expensive and dishonest to boot about billing. We quickly found a better dentist and have both been there as well as our three children for a myriad of services. All of that was paid out by insurance with no issue but this office continues to threaten to send this $36 to collections. I'll tell you what Lisa/Dr. Young, go ahead. If that's the kind of scummy business you want to run, and you do, proceed. What a joke.

Do Not Recommend: Especially if you have Aetna Dental and are a veteran! Update: I paid the bill for the absurd prices they charge only to receive another bill months down the line for what appears to be overdue charges. I paid the bill immediately after I got it in full. I have no problem paying my bills, so I find it offensive that this is even happening. The office is nice and it was not too far from home. The problem I have is the secretary and insurance. She completely lied about my insurance being in-network, consistently beating around the bush. I should have did my own research, but I did not think she would flat out lie. For a couple of fillings and two cleanings, after insurance paid their bit, I owed $670, which was more than what I should have paid after insurance.

I went to this dentist for a specific reason: dental clearance for surgery. I was very clear up front what I needed and the time frame in which I needed it... they quickly scheduled my appointment and told me it would be 100$. I went for the exam and was subsequently told that I must return for a cleaning and pay more money for that cleaning before they would give me surgical clearance. In other states I've lived you get a cleaning with the exam. I wasn't expecting to have to return for a cleaning and pay more money. I called my surgeon and he said all I needed to get dental clearance was an assurance that there where no active infections in my mouth, plaque doesn't matter, and a cleaning isn't necessary. I gave this information to trent young and asked him to write me a letter giving me clearance. He wrote me a very passive aggressive letter ultimately saying it would be safer and he wouldn't recommend surgery unless i had a cleaning. I week later I went to a dentist in NM and they gave me clearance regardless of a cleaning. I will say that their equipment and facilities looked very current and everyone was relatively nice... but would not return as a result of them not being upfront and clear about their procedures and prices...

I absolutely recommend Dr. Youngs office! In the last 6 months I have had many dental procedures done- from tooth extraction to deep cleanings and fillings. I showed up to a new patient appointment with a tooth ache and left with an appointment to get the tooth removed as well as a dental plan for all of my needs. All of the staff members are kind and helpful, super personable and fun, they treat me like a person not just a patient. I would say that for the first time in my life I am super motivated to continue going to the dentist and get my dental needs sorted out instead of neglecting them. If you fear the pain of dental work or are embarrassed because you have neglected to see a dentist, please take the first step and schedule an appointment, you will be pain free in no time. Dr. Young has done a beautiful job on my teeth and I have had 0 problems after my procedures, he is an amazing dentist and I feel confident and comfortable in his office.

The whole staff, especially Lisa, are total professionals! They saw me on an emergency, worked miracles to get me my antibiotics and my appointment. Moved around heaven and earth to get me my follow up appointment. I'll be back and back and back!

When I initially came in to this office, I paid $99 for a dental exam. The exam was performed for the purpose of creating a comprehensive plan for me. A plan in which I knew what my dental needs were and how much I would be paying for their services upfront. When I scheduled my second appointment for one of my wisdom teeth removals, I was ensured that I would not be paying over a certain amount. However, the day of my appointment I was charged more money. Not to say the procedure was extremely painful and I sincerely felt like Mr. Young did not care. The staff is friendly but I would not recommend this place .

For my deep cleaning experience only: Fantastic experience, honestly. I've don't think I've ever had a deep periodontal cleaning where it wasn't painful in some way shape or form. But this was fine. Thanks!

My trust in Dr. Young and his capable staff is as strong as ever. I was somewhat hesitant to return after the covid-19 threat. HOWEVER, I found the office functions very well. I am pleased with the sanitary rules in place, and recommend Dr.Young's practice wholeheartedly. Thanks Dr. Young and everyone else working there!
