An endodontist is a dentist who specializes in saving teeth. To become a specialist, an endodontist completes dental school and at least two more years of education dedicated to advanced training in endodontics. They perform routine and very complex endodontic procedures including root canal treatment and endodontic surgery. Endodontists are experts in diagnosing and treating the cause of oral and facial pain. Endodontists provide the highest quality of care efficiently and comfortably through their advanced education and use of state-of-the-art technology such as digital imaging, operating microscopes, and ultrasonic instruments.

Becoming board certified reflects a doctors commitment to provide outstanding patient care and is the highest status an endodontist can achieve. Board certification is a voluntary process and is a distinction earned by fewer than 20% of endodontists in the United States as of 2011.

The purpose of the American Board of Endodontics is toprogressively raise the quality of patient care and to assure the public that the endodontists it certifies have demonstrated exceptional knowledge, skill, and expertise in the specialty of endodontics. To become board certified, an endodontist completes a rigorous three-part examination process. First, a written examination tests knowledge in a broad range of fields including anatomy, biochemistry, pathology, immunology, microbiology, pharmacology, radiology, statistics, clinical endodontics, and related disciplines. Second, an endodontist submits documentation of a variety of cases treated in his/her own practice that demonstrate exceptional knowledge, skills, and expertise in the field of endodontics. Third, a team of board-certified endodontic experts questions the candidate about a variety of diagnosis and treatment situations. Candidates who pass this process demonstrate a high level of skill in problem solving, decision making, analysis, creativity, and evaluation.

Thanks to advancements in anesthetics and treatment techniques, the overwhelming majority of patients report that they are comfortable during the procedure. For the first few days after treatment, the tooth often feels sensitive, especially if pain or infection was present before the procedure. This discomfort is usually well-controlled with over-the-counter pain medications. After one week, only 5% of patients report discomfort is still present and they rate their pain level as mild.

One morning I woke up with some serious pain in my mouth, so I went to the dentist...and was told they couldn't help me, and that I needed an endodontist. Treasure Valley Endodontics was able to get me in the next day, and I couldn't be happier with the service they provided. Not only did they take the pain away from my teeth, but they were also very easy on my wallet also. Thanks guys, extremely grateful!

A well deserved five stars. Staff here is exemplary: courteous, professional, and kind to a very worried first-time root canal patient. The Doctor was absolutely wonderful. They all went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and well cared for. The recovery was very quick, thanks to great instructions and follow up. They made getting a root canal a pleasant experience. Thank you very much!!

Dr. Widmer is an amazing Endodontist. He keeps the pain of a root canal very minimal. He is a kind and gentle Doctor, I felt very assured about him and. that took the fear i usually have going to have my teeth worked on.

We were greated quickly and confirmed our appointment time. The waiting room is clean and comfortable. Once in the exam chair the staff was friendly and informative. They explained what was going to be done. Dr. Stanton did quality work. I was told what to expect with recovery and given contact information if I needed it. I am very happy with their services and would recommend them.

This place doesn't have a 5 star rating for no reason! From start to finish I had an amazing experience with Dr. Widmer and his staff with need to fix a not so fun root canal that my regular dentist tried to fix, but couldn't. Not only does Dr. Widmer have commendable "bedside manner," he also kept me informed on the when and what that he was doing. My comfort was his priority, which means so much for people like me that don't do so well at the dentist. You can also tell he has amazing rapport with his staff which is just as important as with patients in my book! Thank you all on a job well done and getting me out of pain and discomfort! -Haley Spurgeon

I had a root canal done with Dr. Widmer. I am extremely happy with the procedure and my experience at this office! 10/10 for attentiveness, thoughtfulness, and excellent endodontic work. This is by far the best dentist experience I've had. During my consultation they were very thorough in explaining what was wrong with my tooth and what needed to be done to fix it. They were very accommodating to my anxiety and prescribed me medication to relax me for the root canal treatment. I have dental anxiety due to horrible dentistry in the past. The staff is very kind staff too. Friendly and welcoming. I wish Dr. Widmer would do even small procedures like fillings for cavities because I would easily make this my permanent dentist office. The aftercare instructions were detailed and easy to understand. Dr. Widmer called me the same day to follow up with how my tooth is. It's clear they care about each patient. This was all above and beyond! Such a wonderful experience. Felt absolutely no pain during the procedure! Did not think that would be possible, but it is! Look no further, this office is the one! Very knowledgeable and trustworthy Doctor. Also, thank you for the complimentary chocolates! Absolutely delicious! So happy with my experience with you all. Recovery was quick, no more tooth pain!
