Dr. James Kassolis was born and raised in the Baltimore Metropolitan area. He attended the University of Maryland for both his undergraduate degree and graduate training in dentistry. Dr. Kassolis practiced general dentistry for six years prior to attending the University of Illinois at the Medical Center of Chicago for his certification in periodontics, receiving Diplomate status in 1985.

He was a faculty member of the Department of Periodontics at the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, where he taught post-graduate periodontics and implant dentistry, from 1981 to 2018. Dr. Kassolis has numerous research publications and continues to foster his periodontic and implant research interests.

Dr. Kathryn Mutzig loves meeting new people, sharing stories and learning about their lives. As a periodontist, she is most passionate about connecting with patients who have dental-related anxiety or fear. Making time to foster trust, acting with gentle and genuine compassion, and showing that she cares about the individual helps ease her patients worries. This allows them to receive the treatment needed to treat their periodontal disease, so they are able to regain oral health and the confidence to smile!

Dr. Mutzig is a 1979 graduate of the Ohio State University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science and Certificate in Dental Hygiene. She obtained her Doctorate of Dental Medicine (DMD) at the University of Pennsylvania in 1988, and her Certificate in Periodontics at the University of Maryland in 1990.

A lifelong learner, Dr. Mutzig regularly participates in continuing education. This keeps her up-to-date on the newest technology and peer-reviewed studies, along with FDA-approved techniques for treatments and medications.

Dr. James Kassolis, Dr. Kathryn Mutzig, and our long-standing team are experienced professionals. We are dedicated to providing each patient with high-quality solutions, utilizing evidence-based techniques, materials, and technology, and designing treatment to the individual. With our focus on lasting results, we help our patients regain oral health and beautiful smiles!

With extensive experience, in-depth knowledge, and utilization of advanced procedures and technology, we are able to correct problems and restore your oral health. Understanding your personal concerns, though, sets us apart.

We take the time needed to learn your expectations and personal constraints, whether financial, timing, or emotional. Respecting you as an individual, and believing you deserve periodontal care that works with your life, we will craft a treatment approach unique to you. By explaining what will happen, why it is being done, answering your questions, and addressing your worries, we strive to set you at ease.

After correcting your periodontal issues, we want you to maintain your restored oral health, and smile, for life. Ongoing periodontal care helps reduce inflammation and infection, leading to a healthier mouth and body.

While we provide this treatment, what really matters is your behavior. Through useful and practical education and encouragement, we are here to guide and support as you develop better homecare routines. Seeing a healthy mouth and bright smile at a follow-up visit thrills us!

My visit had to be one of the most friendly, professional and efficient I've ever experienced at a medical facility! Everyone I encountered was extremely warm, inviting and competent. I would definitely recommend the Towson Center for Dental Implants and Periodontics.

Dr. Mutzig was wonderful in listening to my issue, giving me a thorough exam, and explaining all my options. She didn't jump right into surgery and wanted to perform a conservative approach first. I never felt rushed. Would highly recommend.

Although Staff was polite, go somewhere else. Over $9,000 to remove 1 tooth and put in an implant. Amount doesn't include the drugs or the dietary plan. Of the $9,000 cost was a $650 consultation fee of which a $450 cone scan which x-rayed every tooth upper & lower jaw line. Every tooth, really ? Go somewhere else.

Dr. Kassolis has the ability to immediately put his patients at ease, knowing that they have come to the right person for the job. He explains everything thoroughly, in an easy going manner, letting you know exactly what to expect and why. His office staff is every bit as kind and efficient.

Dr. Kassolis said he will do laser treatment for my peri-implantitis. I went for a second opinion to Harbor Periodontics where they also perform LANAP. They said that I was not a candidate for it after reviewing a CT scan, it showed too much bone loss and the laser would do nothing. It looks like Dr. Kassolis was looking for unnecessary work by offering a laser to a patient who would not benefit from it. He has the equipment to do a CT scan but he only did an x-ray. His evaluation was not thorough, and he recommended a very expensive treatment that would not work. He was also dismissive and pushy. An occlusal adjustment was included in my treatment plan by default even though I didn't say I wanted to proceed with it. He said that I will lose my teeth if I don't get it and got irritated when I asked a question. I went back to the dental surgeon who placed my implants 9 years ago. He tested me for pain in different areas - jaw, neck, back of the head - and discovered that I had TMJ disfunction which affected occlusion. He recommended a 10-day ibuprofen regimen to help with inflammation. Then placing a mouth guard designed for TMJ that relaxes muscles. This alone could help with occlusion. If it doesn't, then the adjustment can be made. He took the time to explain everything. Dr. Kassolis only said that he will shave off my enamel otherwise I will lose my teeth. As if as a middle-aged woman, I looked too dumb to use proper terms or properly discuss treatment. He didn't notice that I have TMJ disfunction and that it was the reason for the malocclusion. And he didn't notice that the significant bone loss makes LANAP useless for me. LANAP costs thousands and it takes many months to see the results. I would lose precious time while bacterial inflammation would keep destroying the bone and then I would still have to get traditional surgery. He also doesn't care if he hurts a patient. I've never had such a painful check-up. He poked my gums so clumsily that even the healthy, not-inflamed gums hurt. When he probed the inflamed part, it felt as if he cut me open with a blunt knife. He nonchalantly said that it was because the gums are sensitive. Well yes, and that's why all other dentists - my general dentist, another periodontist, and a dental surgeon - all have been careful and didn't hurt me. I give zero stars for this experience - from dismissive attitude to the lack of proper evaluation and, as a result, the suggestion of wrong treatment.

Excellent place to go. I had periodontal work there many years ago. I had a dental implant done too as well as numerous teeth cleanings. I highly recommend Towson Center for Dental Implants and Periodontics.

Dr. Kassolis is a caring and skilled professional who is supported by a knowledgeable team. I am writing this review a day after my 2-hour tooth removal / extensive bone grafting procedure and have experienced no pain or difficulties. Before seeing Dr. Kassolis, I had been on a nearly two-year long journey to resolve issues resulting from old dental injuries. I moved to the Towson area and referred myself to him because years ago Dr. Mutzig had resolved my periodontal problems. I especially appreciate how Dr. Kassolis communicated with my out-of-the-area dentist and I'm confident that the three of us will decide on a successful restoration process.
