Our Lady of the Lake is uniquely capable of caring for a full range of illness or injury, including those that are extremely complex, for both pediatric and adult patients. Our family of services includes:

We serve 38,000 inpatients and 820,000 outpatients annually and are committed to building a healthy community through excellence in patient care and education. A part of the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System, Our Lady of the Lake is consistently awarded for compassionate care, clinical expertise, leading edge technology and innovation.

  • On entry to the building, a nurse or a technician will perform a brief screening for symptoms of COVID-19 including taking your temperature. A mask will be placed on all patients. Depending on whether you exhibit symptoms, you will be registered first, or you will be guided directly to the triage screening area.
  • Patients who require assistance will be allowed one caregiver to accompany them. Examples include patients who cannot speak for themselves, those who have dementia, and children under the age of 18. Loved ones accompanying a patient can choose to wait in their vehicle or in the reception area where seating is either physically distanced or certain seats are marked reserved to allow for 6 feet social distance spacing. In addition, the number of people at any given time in reception areas will be limited. Since the average visit to the emergency department takes 3 hours, loved ones who cannot accompany a patient may also choose to go home. Our staff will notify you by phone when the patient is ready for discharge or it is determined that an admission is required.

  • Once in an exam room, patients put on a hospital gown before being connected to equipment to monitor vital signs, heart rate and rhythm. A provider will take a history of symptoms and perform a physical exam as necessary. Blood work and other tests will be ordered.
  • Scanning system - OLOL has also implemented bar-coding, a scanning system that helps nurses ensure the right medication is given to the right patient and provide a reliable reminder system to enhance communication between care teams.
  • Physician Involvement - Physicians are involved in every aspect of the hospital's quality initiatives and lead teams to address processes, make recommendations for improvement and guide implementation.
  • We participate in several national initiatives for the public reporting of quality measures. Good information helps patients to make informed decisions about their healthcare choice. But, because there is no single national standard or benchmark rating system, information about quality is not always consistent or easily comparable.

In response, Our Lady of the Lake publishes an annual Quality Report where we publish our quality measures on accepted national standards. We then compare our date to national benchmarks. Our goal is to give you an understanding of how we rate when compared to others.
