Dr. Benjamin V. Koren grew up in Durham, North Carolina where he attended Jordan High School. He went on and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Dr. Koren was accepted to the University of North Carolinas prestigious dental program and completed his Doctoral of Dental Surgery degree in 1999. He then was chosen to be part of the Health Professions Scholarship Program sponsored by the United States Air Force. He completed a post doctoral study in Advanced Education in General Dentistry at Barksdale Air Force, Louisiana and went on to practice two years at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico. While serving his country for three years in the United States Air Force, Dr. Koren earned the National Defense Service Medal.
Dr Koren, along with help from fellow staff Jill, Kim and dentist Dr. Dave Galatas, performed a root canal and cleaning procedure on a tiger at the Carnivore Preservation Trust. Eliza was a 12 year old tiger weighing in around 350-400lbs. Overseeing the entire procedure was Dr Laurie Weisel of Pittsboro Animal Hospital. Also there to help were additional staff from the Animal Hospital and CPT. Before it was all over, almost everyone had stroked, touched and petted the big tiger; a rare privilege. Eliza survived her treatment well. Though tigers in the wild usually only live 10 years, tigers cared for by CPT often live 17-20 years.

Well needless to say, very few of us like the dentist. It's just not the type of place we would choose to go. However, it is a necessary evil. I was just there today, for what reason? I forgot. Then when the receptionist told me it was just a cleaning, some sort of relief came over me. Yet, I was still at the dentist. As I sat there, I thought to myself, the lovely ladies that work here, from the techs, to the assistant, and the receptionist to the dentist, they all strive hard to make your appointment as enjoyable as the dentist could be. They're very organized, timely, and professional. They really take a lot of the stress out of a dental appointment.

Awesome people! Office atmosphere is very welcoming. The staff are helpful and very knowledgeable. They truly listened to my concerns and explained everything in detail. Looking forward, I have never said this about a dentist, to my next appointment.

Been here since 9 am waited for 45 minutes for someone to come in to numb my mouth by now it's 12 lunch time if u go there plan on staying all day this place use to be great now it's went down hill

Like many, I am not a fan of going to the dentist. In all my years of going, I have never been so comfortable with a procedure or having to return for another. The office is friendly and clean. Dr. Boyd made me feel secure and she is fast! The receptionists and other techs are kind and attentive. Definitely 5 stars! I highly recommend Total Smiles of Leland to everyone!

This place is amazing. New patient and they got me an emergency appointment fix me right up. I ended up having dry socket so I was in so much pain for a weekend and Monday morning they had no spots available.but Dr. Boyd was able to get me in with just a short wait. She is the best!! I'm terrified of the shots and she has made it to where it doesn't hurt and she is fast and efficient and very caring. 100% recommend. Also all staff members are super sweet!

Initial visits were good. I don't love dentists but it was a good experience. Arrived for my most recent appointment and doors were locked until after my Appt time, after a long wait in the waiting room even though my appointment was the earliest time of the day the hygienist took me to a room and placed the bib on and shortly after left the office. The dentist didn't arrive until an hour after my schedule appointment. An hour and a half after my appointment time when I expressed I had concerns about being there for much longer than I already had been, I was told if I can plan my schedule to allow time for them to do the work then they can't do the work. Unfortunately I can't plan to wait almost two hours to start an appointment and then wait around another hour or two for the actual appointment.

I brought friends' daughter her for an appointment. The Dr. wasn't even here. Which they failed to even let me know. They decided to tell a child and scheduled a new appointment after they took her back. They never asked to speak with me. Keep in mind that on previous visits, they also talked with me about what work they did and how she did and asked when to make the next appointment with me.
