Dr. Tonya Baker began dreaming of becoming a dentist at the age of 16. After graduating as valedictorian of the class of 1984 from Calhoun High School, she continued to work hard to make those dreams become a reality. Dr. Baker attended Mercer University in Atlanta before being accepted to the dental program at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. It was in her junior year of dental school that she realized her passion was in orthodontics. She earned her Doctorate of Medical Dentistry in 1990, graduating at the top of her class. She continued her studies at MCG and completed her Orthodontic Specialty training in 1992. It was then time to put all that she had learned into action. She couldnt wait to come back to Calhoun, Georgia to give back to the community that had given her so much. She has been providing excellent orthodontic care while creating smiles, boosting self-confidence and self-esteem in patients of all ages since 1992.

It is so rewarding to see the transformation that takes place in so many of my orthodontic patients! I love to hear the moms stories. As parents we all see the beauty in our children, but often times they cant see it in themselves. So they hide behind their hands, never speak up in class and dont get involved in a lot of activities that they normally would enjoy. After treatment, Moms often beam with pride as they tell me how that shy little boy or girl finally sees themselves in a new light. They now have a new confidence. They are vibrant and outgoing and the beautiful person that they always were has surfaced for all to see! I love that I have the ability to help these young people put their best foot forward and take full advantage of all of lifes opportunities that are ahead of them. This change is not seen just in my young patients. I have witnessed my adult patients blossom as well. I cant tell you how many have gotten engaged or been given promotions while still in treatment. I have come to realize that the change in self esteem and self confidence begins before the end result is ever revealed. The motivating factor, I think is just the realization that they are in the process of this transformation that gives them the added level of confidence. Of course, I have to add that I could not do this all by myself. I have a wonderful and caring team that helps makes each transformation possible.

To stay up-to-date on her ever changing field and so that she can provide the highest possible care to her orthodontic patients, she maintains memberships with numerous professional organizations, including the American Association of Orthodontists, Southern Association of Orthodontists, Georgia Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, Georgia Dental Association and Northwest District Dental Society. She is also active in several study clubs and attends continuing education classes throughout the year.

I worked as an executive secretary prior to coming into the Orthodontic practice. I enjoy explaining to our patients and parents the details. I cannot believe the people I know that come through the door bringing their children or grandchildren that I havent seen in years. I really enjoy working with Dr. Baker and my co-workers.

Louise has been with Dr. Baker for 17 years. She and her husband have one son. Away from the office, Louise is active at New Zion Baptist church where she is a memeber. She enjoys taking care of her family, shopping, cooking, cleaning, walking, and exercising. Anything that keeps her active.

Since college, I have always worked in the medical field, so I was excited to receive a offer to work for Dr.Baker. It lets me use my office administration skills as well as being able to meet so many wonderful patients and parents.

Im excited to take on the role as the New Patient Coordinator because I enjoy interacting with new people. The gratification that comes along with braces is more than rewarding. When Im not at work, I love to spend my time with my family making cherishable memories. My husband, daughter, and I love to travel and are always on the go exploring different things.

I had orthodontic treatment as a child and it absolutely was the best thing my parents did for me. I started working for Dr. Baker when I was a senior in high school. I fell in love with the field of orthodontics. Being able to have the opportunity to make others feel the way I did after treatment is rewarding everyday.

Selena has been with Dr. Baker for approx. 18 years. In her spare time she enjoys going to her childrens sporting events, listening to music, and hanging out with friends. She and husband Scott have three adult sons(all at this point either married or engaged), Austin and wife Morgan, Spencer and fiance Celeste, Jackson and fiance Hayley. They also have one daughter, Cortney. They also have 4 granddaughters Presley, Waverly, Emy Leigh, and another due in October. 2019!

Samantha has worked in the orthodontic field for 15 years. She joined our staff in June 2012. Samantha is a certified orthodontic assistant and expanded duties certified. She is married and has a daughter named Maelee. In her free time Samantha enjoys riding horses, competing in team roping, and going to junior rodeos with her daughter.

Hi my names Missy Sanderson and Im new to the team! Im 22 years old, I love the outdoors, spending time with family, and crafting. Im married to Tanner Sanderson and we have a newborn daughter named Oaklynn. Ive been a general dental assistant for about four years now but I decided to change it up and Ive been doing orthodontic assisting for about a year. Im definitely glad I did too! Its so much more rewarding seeing a person from start to finish how much they change as a person as well as their smile and their faces lighting up when they see their new smiles.

Every child should be cavity free. We are so lucky to have wonderful products on the market now that cannot only prevent decay but can heal early decay when they are used daily with good home care habits. Working with children from the time their first tooth comes into young adulthood is my passion. I have many years of experience in the field of dentistry from treating children to teaching at the dental hygiene program in Rome, Georgia. Gentle and empathetic with a fun but professional approach to help alleviate childrens fears, I enjoy working side by side with parents in the operatory. You will not be asked to wait in the waiting room while I treat your child-it is a group effort to see that every child has the chance to become cavity-free.

Calhoun, Ga, orthodontist, Dr. Tonya Baker understands the importance of a smile you can share with confidence. Additionally, she wants you to feel confident with your decision for your journey to your best smile ever. Here are a few ways to get started:

Invisalign straightens your teeth without wires and brackets, using a series of clear customized removable appliances called aligners. Dr. Bakeris aPreferredInvisalign Provider in Calhoun, GA, and has treated many patients with Invisalign clear containers.

Invisalign and Invisalign Teen: is a nearly invisible way to straighten teeth. We prescribe a series of clear removable aligners to straighten your teeth without wires or brackets. aligners are designed to move your teeth in small steps to their desired final prescribed positions. aligners are made through a combination of orthodontic expertise and 3-D computer modeling. is best suited for adults with mild crowding or spacing. can be used in teens with permanent teeth. Invisalign Teen aligners include a compliance indicator to report the amount of time the aligners are worn. is removable so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment. You can also brush and floss normally to maintain good oral hygiene.

Our Clarity ceramic brackets are top of the line made of clear materials which makes them less visible on your teeth than traditional metal braces. For this reason, it gives the ceramic braces a more modern look and feel that tends to be a very popular choice among our older teens and adult patients. While they are visually less prominent, they do require more attention to your oral hygiene. Ceramic braces are larger in form and considerably more fragile than traditional metal braces.

At Baker Orthodontics of Calhoun, GA, we offer state-of-the-art techniques to shorten treatment time. One method we use is the Propel system. Propel is a micro-invasive treatment that uses tiny perforations to stimulate the bone around the root of the tooth to remodel faster allowing the tooth to move quicker and easier. The procedure only takes 15-20 minutes, without any downtime, and can reduce the time you are in braces by up to 50%!

An additional method available for you to get your braces off faster is our Odyssey Diode Laser treatment. This is an extra service we offer which helps speed up treatment by uncovering slow-to-erupt teeth early. The laser can also be used to cosmetically reshape the gum line after your braces are removed and improve your overall smile.

If you are prone to fever blisters or aphthous ulcers, Diode Laser treatment can be used to stop the pain immediately and the lesion will heal in a couple of days instead of a couple of weeks. We offer this service to all patients, whether you are undergoing orthodontic treatment or not!

SmartClips, which is a self-ligating bracket that utilizes a clip to hold the wire in place, dramatically reduces friction and allows for faster movement of the teeth. As a result, you will experience a shorter time in braces with the same, shining results!

With over 24 years of experience, Dr. Baker will be able to create a custom solution to fit your individual needs. She uses several different bracket systems in order to provide you with the most comfortable form of treatment available.

We offer Mini-Twin brackets, which have a mesh bonding base that allows them to curve and more accurately conform to your teeth. Over the course of the treatment, the Mini-Twin bracket system needs fewer archwires than standard brackets, which increases the overall comfort of the patient over the duration of the treatment.

Many patients enjoy its smaller, more compact size, which enables it to be less noticeable, while retaining the capability for effectiveness. While its profile is up to 30% smaller than its competition, it maintains the standard size for its bracket slots, which enables it to maintain the stability and control so important to the treatment process.

Another treatment solution Dr. Baker will be able to draw from are low-profile brackets. Low-profile brackets are smaller and sit closer to your teeth, reducing protrusion overall. This reduced protrusion will result in less gum-to-bracket contact and friction, allowing for a better treatment experience overall.

You may also be a candidate for TADs (Temporary Anchorage Devices), which are used to enhance anchorage to decrease treatment time. These devices are immobile and are designed to help push, pull, lift or intrude teeth that are being straightened.

When we remove your braces, we will begin the retention stage of your treatment. Your final orthodontic result depends on the proper use of your retainers; so it is important to wear your retainer as instructed in order to maintain your beautiful smile for a lifetime!

It may be surprising to hear that when your babys first tooth cuts, its time for their first pediatric dental visit! Good dental habits are important for your baby and a pediatric dentist will be able to help you plan your childs dental health schedule. The Grins & Giggles team will be able to let you know what to look for as your childs mouth develops and how to prevent tooth decay and gum disease, even if your child only has one tooth!

At Grins and Giggles of Calhoun, GA, we understand right away that your child needs special and attentive care. We dont simply expect your child to be cooperative with someone they dont know, and have created an atmosphere that allows your child to be comfortable and relaxed. We build extra time into our schedule in advance, understanding that your child may need more time to adapt to a new environment and to get to know the team. We do everything we can to ensure your child is comfortable before we put them in the dental chair.

Early dental care is extremely important. Once your child has even one tooth, it is susceptible to decay and gum disease if not properly cared for. Additionally, once the first tooth has cut, your child will experience the traditional growing pains of the additional teeth to come! Your pediatric dentist will be able to help you with a plan for how to help your child with the growing pains and how to develop a routine for brushing your childs teeth as they come in. If you wait until your child has a full set of teeth, it may be too late for preventive care!

At Grins and Giggles in Calhoun, GA, you will find that our entire pediatric dentist is dedicated to making your child feel safe and comfortable. Our team is warm and friendly, and understands how to make kids realize there is nothing to worry about. Not only is our team aware of how to make a kid feel at ease, our patient rooms and waiting area are decorated in such a way that your child will know they are in a safe environment. The patient rooms appeal to your childs sense of familiarity because they each have their own theme! Whether your childs favorite cartoon is Toy Story or Finding Nemo, we have fun, recognizable characters that will make you question if you are even in a dentists office!

With all the odd shaped and pointy tools that sit on a dentists tray, even adults are weary about getting a dental exam! Imagine a dentist trying to use all those big, pointy tools in a small childs mouth! Scary! Pediatric dentists understand that smaller mouths call for smaller tools to get the job done right and without traumatizing your small child. The dental tools at Grins and Giggles are designed for small mouths and are also made to look less intimidating! Our primary goal is to ensure your child gets the dental health care he or she needs, the easiest way possible!

It is essential for your child to receive early dental care in order to monitor development as he or she grows and to ensure their mouth develops properly as teeth come in! Preventive care can also help avoid the need for braces in the future and to also avoid the need for expensive surgeries later on in life. Additionally, early dental care can be pivotal in preventing cavities and gum disease. However, should a cavity need to be filled or any kind of oral surgery need to be performed, your child will have the comfort of being in an environment they have become familiar with and trust.

If you are reading this page as a parent for your childs treatment you may be wondering at what age you should bring your child in for an initial exam. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends your child have an exam as early as the age of 7. While braces and orthodontic treatment may not start that early, the earlier we see your child the more options we will have for treatment and typically less treatment time will be required.

Thank you for a wonderful job on our daughter Brenna Dunnaway! She has gone from one impacted canine which would not erupt at all, to the second canine tooth erupting high above her other teeth. Thanks for showing great patience with her narrow pain tolerance window! Great job!

If I had known what a headache this place would have been before we started treatment we would have chosen a different place. The only thing I can say nice are the dental assistants, they're great with the kids, and just all around great. But Dr. Baker herself is extremely scattered, and doesnt appear to really know what's going on, and I barely see her do anything it's the dental assistants doing all of the work. The office staff refuse to work on scheduling with you as they are not flexible at all, and they don't listen very well either. We paid over a thousand dollars to begin our sons treatment 2 years ago, after we paid Dr. Baker decided we couldn't srtar quite yet, so we went to multiple appointments for 2 years being told we can't begin treatment yet, now that we have started treatment the office staff are attacking for a payment plan. And harass us every time we visit, nevermind I paid over a thousand dollars for the work they're just now beginning to do. They do not care I'm working with my ex husband to pay this since we already paid half of it, clearly they are going to get their money or we wouldn't have paid so much 2 years ago, and continued to come to appointments even though the appointments have just been us waiting an hour for Dr. Baker to say we still need to wait. They also changed the treatment plan for the second visit in a row now. This place is a headache, rude, uncaring, not flexible, and just not the place I would have chosen knowing what I know now. At this point I'm not even sure we're going to be able to finish treatment with them because of these reasons, but since they have finally started we are trying, I also know they would screw us out of the money we already paid if we decided not to.
