Derek Durbin earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a Minor in Gerontology from Kansas State University. He then went on to receive his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, College of Dentistry. At that time, he moved back to his hometown of Topeka in 2004 to join his dad Bob Durbin in practice. Along with the full scope practice of general dentistry, Dr. Durbin also maintains an advanced sedation license in order to meet the needs of the anxious patient.
Always desiring to improve, Dr. Durbin is a member of the Heartland Dental Study Club where he receives education in many advanced areas of dentistry. He is also a member of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, which enables him to receive some of the top training in dental sedation. Dr. Durbin also enjoys the pursuit of continuing education in the areas of root canal therapy, oral surgery, and aesthetic dentistry.
Dr. Durbin and his wife, Jenny, have four children. They greatly enjoy outdoor activities like sports, hiking, fishing, or just playing with their children and pets. Some of Dr. Durbins hobbies are reading, working out, and spending time with family and friends. Last, and what Dr. Durbin would consider the foundation of who he is, is his involvement in his local church and global mission work.
Bob Durbin graduated from Topeka West High School in 1970, and attended Kansas State University from 1970-1974, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree. He was accepted to attend University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Dentistry and graduated in 1978 with a DDS degree.
Dr. Bob married his high school sweetheart, Jan, in 1972. They had 2 boys, Derek and Brett. Derek and his wife Jenny have 3 girls and 1 boy. Brett and his wife Jaelle have 3 boys and 2 girls. Bob and his wife feel very blessed to have them all close by in Topeka. Dr. Bob opened his practice in 1980, then in 2004 with Dr. Derek Durbin joining him, they made Todays Dentistry into what it is today.
Kelley Hathaway is a native Topekan who grew up in Highland Park and the Shawnee Heights area. She graduated from Washburn University with a BS in Biology and also earned a degree in Medical Technology. Dr. Hathaway received her DDS in general dentistry from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1988, and has practiced in Topeka since that time. She joined Todays Dentistry in 2007. Dr. Hathaway likes to educate patients on their oral and systemic health. Prevention of disease is the ultimate goal.
Amy Leiker is a Kansas native, born in Topeka and then moving to Pittsburgh, where she spent the majority of her childhood. She attended the University of Kansas and completed her undergraduate degree with a Bachelor of Arts in Human Biology. While in Lawrence, she enjoyed being a Rock Chalk Dancer, as well as a member of the Chi Omega sorority.
She graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) Dental School in 2010 with a DDS degree. She joined the team at Todays Dentistry after graduating and has truly cherished building relationships with the Topeka community. She loves putting a smile on everyones face. She continuously strives to stay educated on the most advanced techniques in dentistry through her active involvement in dental study groups. She is also a certified Invisalign provider.

I'm so thankful that I found this office! They truly make you feel more relaxed and comfortable as soon as you step in the door everyone is friendly. They listen to your concerns and explain everything to you. Also, they take time with their patients.

In two visits, I liked the teeth cleanings, but it made me mad, not only, for the hygienist to check my teeth for cavities, but for me to have to tell her my health history - which is considerable, considering I'm elderly. Then this hygienist, in turn, regurgitates it to Amy Leiker, who, then, flies in for her "five minutes!" In the first visit, Amy flew in, and said, "I hear you grind your teeth at night!" I said, "I never said that! I said that a dentist, forty years ago, ground my front, upper, teeth for a cosmetic look." She said, "Well, you need those capped! They're cracked!" I said, "I've been told that for forty years!" On the second visit, six months later, I complained to the hygienist about the first visit, and Amy did her usual "flying in for five minutes," and exclaimed, " I heard you have allergies!" Again, I said, "I never said that!" I said, "I had nasal suergeries due to a sudden attack of bronchitis, and a buildup of infection and polyps. Now, my nose runs a little, just because the turbinates were, completely removed!" Then I asked, "I didn't get my teeth checked for cavities." She said, "Amy did that!" I said, "No, she didn't!" I paid my bill, and told the receptionist I noticed I never received a date and time for another visit, as well listed all my other concerns. I said I wouldn't be back!

NO PAIN WHEN FILLING CAVITY'S (no shots included) I hate going to the dentist more than anyone and especially when I have get a cavity filled. However, Came into Dr. Derek Durban's office at 4 (to get a cavity filled) and walked out at 4:15 with NO PAIN and a cavity filled!!! Literally NO PAIN and NO SHOT!!!! He now uses a system that pushes high pressure air to clear/ remove the cavity which takes the place of the the painful drilling that other dentists you. ****Best Customer Service In Town***** Always greeted with a smile and reminded of appointment with text alerts.

I LOVE this office! I've been a patient of Dr. Durbin's for over 12 years and have not once had a bad experience. The staff is extremely friendly, always very caring and professional. I highly recommend!

I have extreme anxiety when it comes to having anything done to my teeth. Even a cleaning. It wasn't until I had an abscessed molar that I forced myself to have something done about it. Dr.Derek was amazing! He made me feel so comfortable and at ease throughout the entire procedure. He truly listened to my concerns and explained everything before he did it. I want to thank him and his kind staff for getting me though this stressful situation!

Amy Leiker does amazing work but I cannot recommend this company to anyone. I have been a patient at Today's Dentistry for almost 10 years. The trouble started when I had a filling done last year and then moved shortly after. In the craziness of moving, I forgot to update my address with my dentist and the payment notices never made it to our new address. Instead of calling me (my phone number did not change), they sent my $58 account balance to collections. The collection notice came to my new address and the balance was paid immediately. Today we called to schedule our routine cleanings and were told that we are not allowed to come back since we had been sent to collections. Any normal person would see that the nonpayment was purely accidental and remove the hold on our account but, instead, they would rather stick to policy and see a loyal patient go. I can't believe that thousands of dollars spent on dental care and my glowing recommendations over the years didn't even buy us one ounce of good will. tldr; they care more about the money than their patients...
