At TMJ & Sleep Therapy Centre of Cleveland, we know just how complex craniofacial pain can be. The manner in which it presents is highly varied, necessitating individualized treatment plans for each patient. A patient may have TMD, migraines, facial neuralgias, musculoskeletal pain, or a combination of any or all of the above.
TMJ pain is the condition that our patients most frequently turn to us for help with. TMD can cause significant pain affecting much of the craniofacial region. TMJ pain can arise on its own but is usually just one part of a complex series of issues. Some reasons TMJ pain develops are:
However, a frequent cause of TMD that many overlook is insufficient oxygen intake during sleep. We believe this to be the primary cause of TMJ pain. When the airway is obstructed, the body reacts in specific ways to prevent suffocation. One of these ways is grinding and clenching the teeth. When this action is repeated multiple times a night, the bones and joints can be worn down and damaged, causing pain.
The first step is diagnosing the condition causing the craniofacial pain. Once we have that diagnosis, successful treatment is possible. Our treatment plans are customized to the paint, offering different options for adults and children.
Tiffanys career in the dental field started 20 years ago where she graduated from her dental program in 1999. She has worked as a Clinical Assistant ever since and holds certifications in radiology. Tiffany loves helping patients to have a better quality daily life
Amy is an Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary and has worked in the dental field for 21 years. She enjoys spending time with her 2 boys. Amy also likes biking, cooking, wine tasting, and spending time at the beach.
Lissette has been working in this field for over 17 years. She has always had a passion for helping others. Helping Dr. Kristina look at the whole picture holistically is her favorite part of the job. Not to mention she loves being on a team of all women!
Laura brings over 20 years of administrative experience in Office Management, Human Resources, and Accounting. She assists in the development and implementation of our policies and procedures. She also manages and oversees the administrative programs and office practices.
Laura recently returned back to Ohio after living in Texas for the past 15 years. In her spare time she loves spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Laura also enjoys working out, hiking, and anything that involves sunshine and a body of water.

Dr. Kristina was extremely knowledgeable regarding my TMJ disorder and it's related pain. She treated my symptoms with highly effective orothodics that aligned my bite and prevented further damage. In addition, her holistic approach to treatment also addressed the root causes of my pain and encouraged health and wellness in my entire body. I'm grateful for Dr. K's knowledge, expertise, and care. And her team was just as kind and purposeful, enhancing the whole experience.

While investigating the root cause of chronic, debilitating headaches I had suffered from for years, I was referred to Dr. Kristina at Cleveland TMJ and Sleep Center. The office is easy to locate & has lots of parking. Dr. Kristina is extremely kind, friendly, and thoroughly explains each step of her exam and findings along the way. After meeting her, I knew I was in the right hands and I felt such a huge sense of relief to know that I had some answers to years of chronic headaches and teeth grinding. Six months later, I can attest to the power of Dr. Kristina's knowledge & expertise. My quality of life has drastically improved with the use of dental appliances and nasal dilators after discovering I had TMJ & sleep-disordered breathing. I can't say enough good things about Dr. K - she is a true healer & always listens to you - taking the time to answer questions & troubleshoot if needed. I never felt rushed and left each appointment more optimistic and feeling better than the last. Dr. K also evaluated our son and offered advice for our daughter so that we were able to intervene during critical years of development. Her staff is professional, warm, and extremely thorough. The office is very efficient - making appointments a breeze & scheduling easy. Everyone goes above and beyond to make you feel comfortable. Where do I begin? This place gave me my life back. As stubborn a patient as I was, I am a transformed human being after leaving here. Awesome staff, terrific myofunctional therapist and a brilliant doctor in Dr Kristina McGuire. I thought I knew what was wrong with me after seeing a few other "experts" in the field of maxillofacial specialists, but Dr Kristina knew better, and I argued with her quite often over it. She revealed to me that not only was my bite flawed, but the plethora of issues and complications that arise from mouth breathing. Obviously I wanted a much quicker fix, but being tongue tied since birth and years of respiratory issues take time to resolve. This is a business, but this office made me feel like a longtime acquaintance, which only helped me through the hardest challenge of my life. I am now in Phase 2 with the orthodontist (the other Dr McGuire!) and things are progressing just how we had planned! As argumentative as I was, Dr Kristina handled my strong will with courtesy and poise, and I am forever grateful for her patience and understanding. One year ago, I had difficulty eating and was unable to open my mouth fully to get through a dental appointment. I had severe jaw and neck pain and very limited mobility in my jaw. I was also grinding and clenching while I was sleeping, which lead to dental problems. My dentist referred me to Dr. Kristina at the TMJ & Sleep Therapy Centre of Cleveland. Dr. Kristina and her team gave me a thorough exam, diagnosis and treatment plan. I no longer have pain, my mobility in my jaw has returned to normal. I am sleeping better as I am no longer clenching or grinding. I would highly recommend TMJ & Sleep Therapy Centre to anyone experiencing jaw, neck and/or sleep issues.

Dr Kristina and crew are absolutely amazing. I have been sleeping in the "snoring room" for nearly 8 years and with the work these awesome ladies have done I'm back in the big bed! Nothing is better than waking up feeling refreshed and ready to conquer the day. Enough can not be said about a good nights sleep, I've lost weight feel motivated and able to focus on my work.

The entire staff is absolutely lovely! Dr. Kristina is very friendly, willing and able to answer any and all questions. I am so very thankful I decided to come in to get help with my very sudden TMJ issue. Dr. K and her team are very professional and provide a welcoming environment. Dr. K's treatment plan has changed my life! Prior to treatment, my teeth grinding and jaw clenching caused severe jaw pain and frequent headaches which often additionally caused referred pain in my back and shoulders. Since receiving treatment from Dr. K, I have much improved sleep and ability to function normally in my day to day life due to no longer having jaw pain, headaches or referred pain. I am grateful for her treatment and wish I would have found her sooner! She is a very caring and knowledgeable doctor.

Dr. Kristina cares about finding the root cause of problems rather than just fixing the resulting surface level issues. I wish I had found her sooner. My TMJ problems have been consistently getting better throughout treatment and she was able to greatly reduce my pain and get back to a normal range of motion.

Dr. Kristina is a master at her craft! She genuinely cares about her patients and will go above and beyond in making sure you get the help you need. Where other doctors have failed, Dr. K works her magic. My case was challenging but I always knew I was in good hands and that made all the difference. I was immediately put at ease when I walked into the office . I was greeted by friendly and enthusiastic staff . I have OSA and have been looking for ways to get off my CPAP . I have been on CPAP therapy for 3 years and was impressed with the knowledge base and personal touch I found with their practice. The technology utilized for diagnosis and treatment is up to date and Cutting edge. I really appreciate the oral appliance I use at night . I have found that I am more rested in the mornings . They are flexible and eager to assist with the oral appliance , and Taylor it to my specific fit and need .

Not sure where to start- but I have had THE best experience with Dr. Kristina and the rest of her staff (shout out to Tiffany and Amy!) I have had so many issues and no one has ever been able to provide any answers to help or link everything together. We traveled from Columbus to Cleveland on the recommendation of my sister who is a Speech pathologist. Every trip was worth it, everyone was so attentive to my needs and any information I shared. Because of this I was able to answers to questions and the quality results I wanted! This is a field that very few people know about and Dr. Kristina really has a great grasp on guiding you through every step, if you have any nagging TMJ problems I with out a doubt recommend that you reach out to Dr. Kristina. You won't be disappointed! Everything from sleep to breathing to my ability to handle stress has improved!

I'm very pleased with the service and staff at TMJ & Sleep Therapy Centre of Cleveland. Dr. Kristina developed a treatment plan for my specific needs relating to sleep apnea. The most effective being using lasers to shrink my tonsils and other areas in my mouth to open my airway. Not only has it improved my breathing but also has made it easier to swallow. My quality of sleep has improved along with my quality of life! The entire team deserves 10 stars!

I had been in pain for over 3 months in my right jaw when I found the TMJ and Sleep Therapy Center. Dr. Kristin and the entire staff are very knowledgeable and friendly.
