After graduating from the University of Mary Washington with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Dr. Todd Cooper received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore College of Dental Surgery. He is the distinguished recipient of the Maryland Academy of General Dentistry Award for High Proficiency in Clinical Care and Patient Management. Dr. Todd Cooper is an active member of the American Dental Association, the Maryland State Dental Association, and the Academy of General Dentistry. He has been a Delegate to the Maryland State Dental Associations House of Delegates since becoming a dentist. Dr. Todd Cooper is a Fellow in the prestigious Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry, achieving the highest level of training with laser tissue therapy. He is fully licensed to perform laser periodontal therapy (LANAP). He is known for his attention to detail and chair-side manner, as he enjoys educating patients about their dental condition and options.
Dr. Nik has been practicing dentist since graduating from the University Of Maryland School Of Dentistry 18 years ago. He loves treating complex dental cases with an emphasis on implant and cosmetic dentistry. His patients describe him as highly skilled, fast, but with a gentle touch and a great bedside manner. His goal is to make his patients feel like they are in the hands of caring professionals who understand their needs and have the skills to deliver comprehensive treatment. Dr. Nik teaches Latin dance in his spare time, and he enjoys traveling, surfing, and spending time with family and friends.
Kolade Akinwande, DDS was born in Ibadan, Nigeria. Dr. Akinwande played division 1 basketball for UMD Eastern Shore and graduated from University of New Mexico. She then attended Howard University College of Dentistry.Dr. Akinwande loves eating, spending time with her children, playing basketball, singing at church and watching movies (lots of them)! Dr. Akinwande is married to her husband Joseph and they have three beautiful children, Morayo, Damilola and Oluwasegun.
After graduating from Georgetown Universitys School of Dentistry, Dr. David Cooper established a successful general dental practice in Lexington Park, Maryland. Offering reliable and high quality dental care, serving patients of all ages, the practice grew. The practice was renamed Tidewater Dental in 2003 and has expanded to offer a full range of services including general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, dental implants, orthodontics, oral surgery, periodontal therapy, and endodontics. Dr. Cooper actively participates in a number of professional organizations. He is a founding member of the St. Marys Dental Study Club. He is also a member of the American Dental Association, Maryland State Dental Association, and the Patuxent Dental Society. He has served as a delegate of the MSDA House of Delegates. He is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry and the St. Marys County Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Cooper is a recipient of the Americas Top Dentists Award.
Dr. Risk began his dental career after graduating Georgetown University in the United States Air Force where he attended a 2-year general dentistry residency, having served in a variety of clinical, command, deployed and administrative assignments. Upon retirement after 30 years of service, Dr Risk held a variety of positions as consultant for quality assurance, risk management, infection control compliance, patient safety and accreditation. Dr Risk is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP) for 2020-2021 and is a member of the American Dental Association Standards Committee for Dental Products. He continues to serve as the Civilian Air Force Consultant for Dental Patient Safety and Infection Control. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of General Dentistry and a Fellow of the International College of Dentists.
Dr. Chikara Saunders-Fiddermon was born and raised in Freeport, Grand Bahama, Bahamas. She received her undergraduate degree in Biology from Saint Leo University in St. Leo, Fl. She went on to attend Howard University College of Dentistry. After completing dental school, she decided to complete a two-year residency in pediatric dentistry at Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center. Dr. Saunders-Fiddermon is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and is committed to dental education. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling with her husband, spending time with family and friends, interior design, cooking and is trying to develop a green thumb.
Dr. Bruce Finagin received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, receiving the Quintessence Award for Excellence in Restorative Dentistry. Dr. Finagin continued at the University of Maryland, completing a residency in Prosthodontics, the dental specialty in complex restorative treatments. He has been providing comprehensive dental care in St. Mary's County for over 20 years with a special concentration in advanced restorative techniques. Dr. Finagin has extensive experience in the placement and restoration of Dental Implants, as well as more traditional treatments such as dentures, crowns and bridges. Dr. Finagin lives in Callaway, Maryland with his wife Desiree and restores old cars in his free time, when he is not fishing.
Dr. Chapman was raised in Toronto, Canada. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Vermont. He continued his education at Howard University, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. For his academic accomplishments Dr. Chapman was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon national dental honor society. Membership into this prestigious society is limited to individuals who have distinguished themselves by excellence in scholarship, while demonstrating exemplary traits of character and potential qualities for future professional growth and attainments.
Dr. Chapman continued his training with a general practice residency at Faxton St. Lukes Hospital in upstate New York where he provided comprehensive dental care. He regularly attends continuing education courses to increase the services offered to his patients. Dr. Chapman is an Invisalign certified provider and active member of the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOCS), allowing him to provide treatment in a safe and comfortable manner for all patients.
Dr. Shannon is a Maryland native who received her undergraduate degree from the University of Central Florida. Dr. Shannon returned to the Washington, D.C. metro area to complete her dental training at Howard University. After earning her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, Dr. Shannon completed a General Practice residency at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health at the University of Rochester.
Dr. Shannon regularly attends continuing education courses to expand the number of services that she can offer to her patients. Dr. Shannon is a certified Invisalign provider and an active member of the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOCS) allowing her to provide treatment in a safe and comfortable manner for all patients.

I was trying to find a new dentist. I called Tidewater Dental. The receptionist asked if she could place me on a brief hold. Twenty minutes later no one ever came back to the phone. I hung up and will continue to search for a new dentist. The first impression was not favorable for this group.

I had a great experience at this office. The dentist is very professional, kind, and caring. He took care of all of my dental needs and did an excellent job. I had a root canal, crown and 2 fillings for cavities. The dental hygienist also did an excellent job with my cleaning. Actually the best I've ever had as my teeth looked whiter when she was done and felt super clean. Their care has encouraged me to take better care of the teeth I have left by brushing and flossing at least twice a day. Their office is clean, beautifully decorated, and well organized. I'm very pleased with the treatments I received and with the entire business. Very polite, caring, and professional staff, dentist, and dental assistants. I highly recommend them.

I hereby and henceforth declare that I, being rather disappointed with the quality of the service which I have received within this here for-profit, business-orientated establishment which is probably considered part of the hospitality industry, since the moment that I did perambulate into the same with the intention of paying a sufficient and expected or lower quantity of legal currency for the service which I was poised to enjoy, do demand, request and beckon for the individual who does hold power and control supreme, ultimate, specific and particular over the running and maintenance of this aforementioned establishment, such that they, who, regardless of pressure coming from those placed in authority under them, and who are only accountable to those who are concerned with causes wider than this establishment, might speak, converse and exchange lexical meaning with one another, primarily through the use of our oral cavities, but also by way of facial expression, intention and gesticulation, as well as innumerable and subtler ways, and in so doing might hear my grievances which I have prepared for them as a result of the sub-par quality of the service bestowed upon me by them and them that are put in authority under them, inasmuch as they may be held most probably responsible for the same, and in doing so, may be shamed and deterred from ever allowing such an occurrence or series thereof to take place within the bounds of their own establishment or wheresoever they have control over and/or within, and as a result may agree with my proposed grievousness of my complaints regarding their actions and/or the actions of them that are put in a place of responsibility under them, and so may be found wanting to make reparation, refund and compensation for the same, that I may be at least partially satisfied and appeased, to the end also that I might have my heart softened toward them, and insomuch be deterred from causing not inconsiderable grief, be that slander, libel, property damage or any such ill which I might effect upon this establishment, its customers, its patrons, its employees, its owners, and even its M A N A G E R or M A N A G E R S or any such person who may be affiliated with this establishment, which I do earnestly believe to be a reasonable end for those whom I have listed already, and that if I should be satisfied so, I might also be more inclined to revisit this place, assuming that significant change has been effected in order to rectify those things which I sought, will see, see and saw fit to be changed, in such a way as nobody at all under any normal circumstances may be so unfortunate to find themselves in such a condition of disappointment, be that lesser or greater than mine own, so that they might attempt to do the same which I am doing at this present moment, and as a condition for this negotiation, the same figure of authority must be ready and willing to reimburse part or preferably all of the money which I did part with and donate unto them as a reward for their services, which I now see as being perhaps less worthy of such a reward, which I do think they are ready and willing to do in the case that the both of us regard it most expedient for both our several and separate causes to undertake the same.

The biggest kudos goes to ALL the staff! Everyone was very friendly and professional. Though it was my first appointment, I was able to get started quick and finished at a reasonable time. I appreciated how knowledgeable the staff was and how they communicated everything with me. They didn't have to and I didn't request it, but it made me feel comfortable and informed. Know you are in great hands when you go here!

First time at Tidewater Dental and I must say it was wonderful! The staff is very kind and welcoming, they're very precise with timing, I really enjoyed my teeth cleaning. I would definitely recommend anyone to make this their new dental office outstanding services.

I am a new patient due to relocating. This office provides stellar service. I felt very comfortable and welcomed from the moment I walked in the door until the time I left. They answered all of my questions and were very thorough. There was not a long wait and the office was very clean. Great experience!!!

Tidewater Dental (Lanham Location) has been the best dentist office I've ever been to in my life. Seriously, the staff and dentist are personable and fun . The comfort level is and I love how they walk you through your treatment plan from the actually work being done to the financial breakdown so it make easier for you to budget and ensures you can have impeccable dental health. I recommend Tidewater Dental and not just this location but all their locations. I've been to Odenton too and it's the same way.

Amazing place especially for kids. They are very professional and gentle personable. My kids love it here and I love that it is right in the neighborhood and we get 5 star service every Single time. I wouldn't take my children any where else.

First I'm horrible with names but from what I understand there is only one dental hygienist at this location currently. She's amazing. I hate injections/shots. She didn't start until I said I was ready for them and administered them slowly. You think this might make it worse but her slow application made it much less painful. My last fillings at this location the lidocaine inject was done by the dentist which was a tad painful but again I hate injections. They take pain very seriously and went above and beyond to manage mine. 10/10

This was my first time coming to this office. I hadn't had a dental exam since before the pandemic hit, it's safe to say I was overdue. The front staff greeted me warmly when I came in, and an important note for me when I go places is being addressed by name. They made sure to pronounce my name correctly and continued to do so for the duration of my visit. The dental assistant I had (Lauren i believe), was so warm, welcoming and knowledgeable, she answered any questions I had. She consulted me about Invisalign and addressed my concerns about my dental care. The Dentist i had, Dr. B, he was great too. Very gentle and took my concerns about pain and future procedures seriously. He took time to answer my questions and provided a demonstration about a tooth surface so i could understand what parts of my teeth were affected. Even though I have a slight fear of the dentist when it comes to procedures, he put me at ease. I am a little less fearful about the upcoming work i have to get done as long as I have Dr. B and Lauren , i think I will be just fine.
