The Bakersfield Ronald McDonald House has been providing comfort, care and support to children and families in Southern California since its opening in 2009. This organization hopes to create a community where children and their families embrace life and healing by providing them with the care they need and by keeping families together.
Dr. Michael Thurman approaches orthodontics the same way that he pursues everything in lifewith passion and commitment to excellence, all while remembering that its important to have some fun along the way. 'Dr. T', as his patients know him, has many hobbies. He enjoys international travel, spending weekends at the beach with family and friends, and staying active and healthy by doing CrossFit and surfing as much as his busy schedule allows.
He also enjoys scuba diving, stand-up paddle boarding, and spending time in and around the ocean. Dr. T grew up playing competitive golf in Fresno, where he was a nationally ranked junior golfer, and then he went on to play collegiately for a short time at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB).
Dr. Thurmans family has deep roots in Bakersfield. His great-grandparents and grandparents moved to the area in the 1940s, and the family has been here ever since. Dr. T loves Bakersfield and its residents, and he's made it a keystone of his practice philosophy to help make his community a better place to live. Dr. T received the highest honors from UCSB, where he earned his undergraduate degree. He then finished dental school ranked #1 in his class of 80 students at the University of California, San Francisco, graduating with his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. Finally, Dr. Thurman trained at the prestigious University of Washingtons Department of Orthodontics, where he obtained both a Masters of Science in Dentistry and his orthodontic certification.
In order to provide the best possible care to his patients, Dr. Thurman regularly attends continuing education courses and is an active member of the American Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, and the California Dental Association. He is highly trained in the Damon Smile System and is a Diamond+ Provider of Invisalign.

Loved the clinic from the moment we walked in to the moment we walked out, everytime! Everyone is so generous and kind, makes you feel very much welcomed and Dr.T is great at what he does and the staff. Offers easy payment plans.

Started my treatment 2 weeks ago. Everyone has been really friendly and kind. What is outstanding is the communication and how fast they work to get you in should you pop out a bracket, which I've already popped off serval. The facility is clean, and the technicians are really fast at working on you. So far, it's been very pleasant.

This place is clean, profesional, and fast. The price was not overwhelming like other near by orthodontics but reasonable and they helped minimize the monthly payment at its lowest possible. My kids love coming here to get their braces adjusted every 6 weeks!

Nothing but the BEST things to say about this Orthodontist and his office staff. My oldest daughter had braces and her appointments were always prompt, she was always taken right back, and treated very nicely. Dealing with the finance department was pleasant as well.

I had high hopes for this place. Very disappointed with our one and only visit. We never went back. They basically took my son back, took x-rays, stuck us in room, when one of the assistants comes in and says he needs to come back in 6 months. We never got to see the doctor or hear what he thought. Basically brushed us off. We gave them another chance this week with our youngest one and still, never saw the dr. Assistant Basically came in gave us a few referrals and said we need to remove a few teeth and hopefully then braces would work. This place is not worth it. Plenty of other places here in bakersfield.

I love how friendly the staff is! My daughter recently has gotten braces and she's in love with them! Everything went quick and smooth. My daughter usually gets pretty nervous but staff made her feel good and she said she loved that they walked her step by step on the process and knew what to expect. Would recommend Dr. Thurman to all!

My 13 yr old daughter is receiving treatment here for her braces. They made it so easy and simple to start the process. All the ladies that are there are so nice and helpful with everything and have made my daughter feel comfortable which I am very appreciative for. 100% recommended!

Loved how they where able to book my sons appointment as soon as they had an opening, as soon as we walked in the girls in the front were super friendly, complimentary coffee and teas while you wait for you to be called. They are super friendly, explained everything. My son got his braces same day, all under 2hrs, best orthodontist in town. Definitely recommending to friends and family.

We felt a warm welcome when we first visited the office. Everyone was so nice and friendly. We were offered to get started the same day. The office staff are rude. I really wish they would have exposed this side before I signed a contract for these brace. My daughter lost her retainers, me thinking it was an urgent matter I left a voicemail last night and called immediately at 8am, the staff seemed unconcerned and seemed irritated when I asked if there was an earlier time as if the matter was not important/ using sarcasm. This isn't the 1st time staff has been unprofessional. During one appointment I asked staff if she could change her gloves seeing how she had touched everything and then was going to put her hands in my daughter's mouth (this was the beginning of COVID), she seemed irritated. Also when removing brace and getting my daughter's impressions completed she (my daughter) began to experience pain and trouble breathing. When I tried to express with urgency something is wrong and the staff brushed me off like it didn't matter that she was experiencing some sort of pain. I really think ALL the staff need to take cultural competency courses. This most recent experience made me feel like they don't care about their patients just the money.. I would definitely seek treatment elsewhere.
