Prosthodontists are specialists in esthetic, reconstructive and implant dentistry, which includes simple and everyday procedures such as teeth whitening, veneers, crowns, dentures and implant restorations to more complex procedures such as facial reconstruction for trauma patients. We are the only specialists approved by the American Dental Association with three additional years of extensive training, taking the whole mouth approach to ensure that our patients receive the best treatment for them.
A prosthodontists intensive training beyond the standard norms of the dental degree interfaces them with researchers and clinical experts from numerous other medical disciplines, tending to give them a wide range of diagnostic insight and diversified approaches to oral health solutions.
Prosthodontists are board certified. This means that in addition to completing the program requirements to be held out as specialists in their field, they have also passed a written and clinical examination assessing their requisite knowledge and skill to provide high quality patient care.
Thomas M. Matthes, DDS is a Prosthodontist, who has been practicing reconstructive and cosmetic dentistry for more than 30 years. He is trained in all aspects of tooth restoration and replacement, with an emphasis on cosmetic smile design and implant restorations. Dr. Matthes has crafted beautiful, natural-looking smiles for thousands of patients using his advanced knowledge of contemporary cosmetic dentistry techniques and state-of-the-art technological innovation.
He graduated with distinction from UMKC Dental School in 1984 and his Prosthodontic Certification from the VA Hospital/Kansas City in 1986. Thomas M. Matthes has been in private practice for over 30 years. His professional memberships include the St. Louis Dental Society, Missouri Dental Association, American Dental Association, American College of Prosthodontists, and the Academy of Osseointegration.

Dr. Matthes is a great listener and pays special attention to details. He is always willing to take the time to answer all of your questions without making you feel rushed. His staff is exceptional. I am a patient of Dr Bradley Matthes and would give him 100 stars if I could!!! I do not have dental insurance and Dr Matthes worked within my budget replacing some missing teeth with a partial and I could not be happier with the outcome!! He and his assistant Casey are genuinely nice people and I always look forward to seeing them. Best dentist I have ever been to!!!!!

Dr Matthes and his team gave me my smile back! Before finding Dr Matthes, I had almost given up hope on dentists. In 2019, I had poor dental work done. I tried other dentists to correct the bad dental work, but with no luck. After googling dentists, I stumbled upon Dr Matthes and read the reviews. I was hopeful and made an appointment. From the first moment of meeting him and his staff and telling them my story, they were compassionate and professional. After my examination, Dr Matthes said he knew what was wrong and could help me. I remember crying in his chair thinking someone is finally listening to me and can fix my mouth. One year later and I am back to normal with beautiful new crowns. It's hard to put into words my gratefulness - but I can say they changed my life and smile. Happy tears here!

At 31 I had to have a denture, after showing up with missing teeth after dealing with another dentist handling the situation incorrectly, Dr Matthes stepped up and knocked it out. From start to finish every person in the office I worked with was a rockstar. It's amazing how he was able to build a denture from nothing that looks and fits first time like my real teeth. I can't express how great my experience has been.

I've spent a fair amount of time in the dental chair over the years, with excellent providers. Dr. Matthes is at the absolute top of the class when it comes to both expertise and communication skills. My case presented a number of challenges that required coordination with an oral surgeon, and the results were better than I could have hoped. After years of limiting the kinds of food I ate, and never smiling in a way that would show my teeth, I can now eat and smile with no reservations. By nature I'm cautious and not one to give extravagant praise, but I cannot imagine that there is a more skilled prosthodontist in the St. Louis area than Dr. Matthes.

If I could give 10 stars to Dr. Matthes and his entire team I would! Patience , perfection, honesty, and expertise are just a few words that come to mind when thinking about my experience! I've been self conscious about my smile for as many years as I can remember, and being in my 40's I did not want to consider braces ! I was referred to Dr. Matthes by a good friend and I can say without hesitation, he did not disappoint ! He has exceeded my expectations and and I can now smile with confidence! I originally selected Dr. Matthes because of the great reviews he received posted on Google as well as the ratings and recommendations from the National Dental Associations. My experience supports all of the positive comments posted and deserved for Dr. Matthes. What is often overlooked is the staff and I just want to comment on the professional and personal care they provide to patients as well as the support of Dr. Matthes. Upon my first visit to the office I immediately felt this was an organized team of professionals whose mission was to provide personal care to their patients. There was no waiting for a front desk to acknowledge you were there and best of all there is no waiting for my appointed time for the procedures. Every appointment was the same although each time I had different assistants. In each of the procedures that was performed I was escorted by an assistant who immediately made me feel I was the patient "Du Jour". As you might guess most of the patients are older, such as myself and we have visited lots of Doctors. For myself I can state none have ever provided this level of personal care and results. Hallelujahs to them all.

After a traumatic facial injury when I was 10 years old, I can finally say that this lengthy journey has ended. The team at Matthes Prosthodontics are nothing shy of amazing. From their caring demeanor, gentle bedside manner and overall excellence in care. Dr Matthes shows pure mastery in the field of dental implants. I cannot praise Dr. Matthes and his Staff enough! I spent a year researching the best cosmetic dentist in St. Louis and he was recommended the most. More importantly, three dental offices told me that Matthes Prosthodontics is where St. Louis dentists go! The Staff guided me through the entire process and explained all that was involved. The Staff set the bar for patient care. I recently had 6 crowns put on my lower front teeth and they look amazing. Not only do they feel great, the color perfectly match my other teeth. Dr. Matthes is not only an outstanding dentist, he is an artist!

Dr. Matthes is phenomenal! I had gone to 3 other Prosthodontists over the last 3 years, trying to determine the cause and to resolve my teeth issues, and all 3 previous specialists came up with a different cause and little hope for a resolution. Then I went to see Mr. Matthes, and nearly cried when he almost immediately and confidently proved to me the cause and how he could easily fix my teeth! For 3+ years, I dealt with severe sensitivity and deteriorating self-confidence, as the enamel of many of my teeth was eroding away, and it turns out, due to acid reflux. Within a few months of meeting Dr. Matthes, I had a brand new smile, the sensitivity was gone, and I regained my self-confidence! I no longer have to stand back when talking to someone, preventing them from seeing my previously awful teeth. I no longer have to avoid laughing or smiling around others or for a picture. I no longer have to avoid public places. Dr. Matthes gave me my smile and my life back! I will be forever grateful to him for that!

I presented to Dr. Matthes for teeth whitening, new implant crowns and abutments, and a mouth guard for teeth grinding. Dr. Matthes and his staff did a phenomenal job and I am extremely pleased with the results. The office was accommodating and a pleasure throughout the entire process including with scheduling. Dr. Matthes' recommendations throughout the process proved to be spot on, and his work is second to none.
