Dr. Thien Bui completed his undergraduate studies at the City College of San Francisco and the University of California, Berkeley. In 1988, he received his D.D.S. degree from the University of California, San Francisco and, two years later, earned his Certificate in Orthodontics and Master of Science in Dentistry at the University of Washington.
In addition to his private orthodontic practice, Dr. Bui is a Clinical Professor of Orthodontic Division, UCSF School of Dentistry, where he has been teaching since 1990. Dr. Bui has published articles in both the Journal of Dental Research and the Angle Orthodontist.
Dr. Bui stays abreast of the latest advances in his field and is very involved with the dental community in the following professional organizations: the California Dental Association, where he served as a Trustee in 2017-2018 and the Santa Clara County Dental Society, where he served as a President in 2010. He was the president of the Association of Vietnamese American Dentists in 2008-2010 and the Northern California Association of Vietnamese American Dentists in 1992-1996.
Dr. Bui currently is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists (FICD), the Academy of Dentistry International (FADI) and the American College of Dentists (FACD). He is also the music and choir director for the Berryessa Alliance Church.
Dr. Cathy Tao received her undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley majoring in electrical engineering and computer science. Through her volunteer experience at the Berkeley Community Dental clinic, she found her passion in dentistry. After college, she attended University of California, San Francisco where she obtained her dental degree and further pursued specialty training in orthodontics.
In addition to private practice, Dr. Tao also serves her community through her volunteer work both locally and aboard. She participated in the Gives Kids a Smile Day in San Francisco. Starting as a dental student, Dr. Tao traveled to China with the non-profit organization, Alliance for Smiles, to help improve the quality of dental and orthodontic care for patients with cleft lip and palate. Dr. Tao is a member of American Association of Orthodontists, California Association of Orthodontists and San Mateo Dental Society.

I am beyond happy!!! 4 1/2 years was so worth it!! Dr. Bui and his team did an amazing job perfecting the smile that I've always wanted for many years. They have the best customer service and most importantly all his staff members are so kind and caring. I highly recommend Dr. Bui and his associates big time!! Again, Thank you so so much!

My second round with braces with Doctor Bui and associates. As teenager I didn't wear my retainers. My teeth shifted as an adult. I went back to my original orthodontist Dr. Bui and he made the process smooth by always updating me on my progress during my monthly visits. The office is covid compliant clean and organized. I got my braces off today. The outcome is everything I expected and more. Thank you Dr. Bui and team.

I came to the office with misaligned teeth and an overbite. After a couple of years, I ended up with a perfect smile all due to Dr. Bui and his team's efforts. My sister and many of my friends also got their teeth done here and their teeth all turned out looking very nice. The office is very hygienic and you will be treated with so much care. I definitely recommend seeking orthodontist treatment here if you're looking for good results and kind staff.

The staff and Dr. Bui were very kind through out the 3 years I had them. My older sister also had her braces done before as well. We're both very grateful to have had our braces done at this office. The place was quite clean, they check your temperature and give you hand sanitizer when you enter for your appointment. If you feel uncomfortable during the process, they ask if you are okay. I've never had a bad experience, I'll miss the office but not the braces LOL!

I lost 1 tooth and my dentist suggested I should get braces to straighten my 2 molars so he can have enough room for the implant. I was referred by my dentist to Dr. Thien Bui's office. Dr. Thien gave me very clear advice and gave me braces treatment. After 2 years and 3 months, in addition to the gap of the missing tooth has been widened, my teeth are straight, the bite is adjusted, my teeth are very beautiful and I am very satisfied. The doctor's office is beautiful, the location is convenient and especially the customer service is excellent. Love it

Dr. Bui and his associates are very professional. They provided the dental procedure for my two kids in the most perfect and wonderful maner and result. He always took time to fulfill his works and never in the rush to complete the case. He is very detailed and accomplishes his services. After my daughter's procedure completed with him, we are completely happy with her result. Now, we know the reason why he is very famous. We strongly recommend him and his associates to everyone. After almost 2 years I finally got my braces off!! I am so glad I went to Dr. Bui, because not only is he a great doctor, but so is everyone in the office! Their customer service has to be top-notch. My favorite front desk people would have to be Lam & Viet! They're amazing at what they do and provide you with the uttermost care. They're kind and always smiling, which always makes me smile myself. Dr.Bui & Dr.Tao are great doctors that know what to do, so just know you're in great hands. Remember, if you have some concerns about your teeth, let them know! They will gladly look into it and talk to you about what they feel and what they can do to help you. All the associates are super professional and kind as well! Ever since covid started, they have been taking extra safety pre-cautions which is something that I respect them for. Everything is throughly clean and sanitized before they take you in for your appointment. I am going to miss seeing them every month or so!

Dr. Bui and his associates are the best! They've all been so so kind and were all really professional throughout my 3 years of braces! I took them off yesterday and couldn't be any happier! They are the best of the best and I highly recommend anyone who's trying to get braces to head over! It's been such a pleasure experience. Also to mention about their COVID measures, they are super cautious about it as well. They keep their office so clean and ask that you take a temperature check before entering. Sanitization is on point!

I've been going to Dr. Bui since I was 6 and now I'm 19 and just got my braces taken off! He and the staff have been extremely kind and helpful through my 13 years of treatment! :)
