Dr. Theresa Jones was born and raised in central Mississippi. She began her education at Mississippi State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Masters in Biochemistry. She continued research efforts in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center three years after graduation.
Her focus then shifted to dentistry as she was accepted to the University of Mississippi Dental School. After obtaining her dental license, she moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast and opened a private practice in Pass Christian. She remained there for 23 years. During that time she completed hundreds of continuing education hours including participating in the Cosmetic Continium I and II at LSU. She studied with Dr. Jeff Morley, co-founder of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry in San Francisco, observing and learning advanced cosmetic procedures.
In August 2005, Dr. Jones and her staff relocated to Gulfport where she designed a new office utilizing the latest technological advances. Since being in Gulfport she continued to work on her education and completed the Fellowship of General Dentistry.
In November 2018 Dr Jones expanded the practice to include associates and became Hillcrest Dental Group, P.A. She believes what sets Hillcrest Dental Group apart from other practices is the efficiency combined with the spa like amenities that help patients relax. 'We stay on time, handle insurance professionally, and consider the care of our patients to be a calling, not a job.' Jones states. 'My staff is kind, they have a good work ethic and they love people. We have a great team start to finish.'
What does practicing dentistry mean to you? 'It has been an honor to practice dentistry and help our patients maintain healthy mouths. Dentistry has come a long way from the old 'drill and fill ' days. Modern dentistry still has a role to play in correcting dental disease, but our true calling is to help patients with prevention. Because life expectancy is increasing, our goal is to keep our patient 's teeth intact with strong bone support for what could potentially be over 100 years'
Dr. Brittany Varney has spent her entire life observing dentistry by watching her mother, Dr. Theresa Jones, provide the Gulf Coast community with quality care over the past 30 years. Dr. Varney received her Bachelors Degree from the University of Mississippi, then continued her education at Mississippi College completing her Masters Degree in Biomedical Sciences. Following these achievements she pursued a career in dentistry at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Dr. Scarlett Johnson is a Gulfport, MS native who is humbled to serve the members of her community with high quality dental care. Dr. Johnson received her bachelors degree from the University of Oregon. She then continued to pursue her masters degrees in Biomedical Sciences and Medical Science from Mississippi College and The University of Mississippi Medical Center. Dr. Johnson completed dental school at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS.
During Dr. Johnson's years at dental school, she completed award winning research and was the recipient of Omicron Kappa Upsilon Research Award, the Academy of Dentistry International Student Servant Leadership Award, and The Sigurds O. Krolls Award.

I'd never take my child to this place. I had a tooth extraction done and was told I don't need pain meds. I was treated like a "pill seeker". I got a dry socket and was treated very coldly when I went to get it packed. I was in more pain than I've ever had in my mouth and the dentist shrugged her shoulders and walked away. I am very disappointed by the care I received. When the tooth was pulled, my gums were torn all the way to the top of them and no one said a word to me about it.

My first visit was a cleaning and exam. I have never had my teeth cleaned as thoroughly as this hygienist and the assistant taking the ex rays was very professional. I then had to go back for a root canal which I was dreading because of the pain I was about to endure. The entire procedure took about an hour and I was offered a persciption for pain upon completion but decided I would take Tylenol instead. To my suprise when the numbness wore off I never had an ounce of pain. Needless to say I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Jones and her staff!

Overall it was a very good experience. Relaxing music, hand massage and hot wax while you get your teeth cleaned, who could not love that?!

I was treated TERRIBLY and looked down on. I had called about my tooth bond that chipped the day before and being new to the area wanted to make sure they accepted my insurance. I was told on the phone that they accept blue cross blue shield, however when I got there at 8 am on Saturday that I would have to pay in full. The bill was 300 dollars. When telling the front desk woman I couldn't afford that right now, I was told you did take my insurance, I received heinous looks, scoffs and body language. They made me feel awful and lesser than them. The two woman that were working the front desk on 12/1/18 should be ashamed of making a person feel that bad, and belittling them. Yes, I came in a big sweatshirt and my curly hair was crazy. But is was 8 am on a Saturday and I am just about to finish my Master's degree and was up all night studying. Before you judge a book by its cover, just be KIND. I will NEVER be back and I really hope those woman never treat anyone like that again. It was disturbing and extremely unprofessional. I will say that the woman who was the dental hygienist was extremely nice and was the only good thing I came across.

Dr. Varney and Dr. Jones are absolutely wonderful! Excellent dental care, gorgeous office, and top-notch service!! They even provide a complimentary hand massage and paraffin wax dip that is so relaxing! No way you can find better dental care anywhere else!

Very relaxed setting and very nice. They are very informative and explain everything for you. They are so sweet and understanding also. Dr. Christy is very gentle and caring. I definitely recommend this office. Everyone is great.

Very unpleasant experience. I have called to book an appointment to have a filling done. At the consultation, I was told that my tooth have to be removed and that I need an implant. I am in my early 30s so it seem rather radical as a solution. I have went to a different dentist who has fixed my tooth and it all works great.

The Good: The facility is clean and well maintained. The Bad: The staff and dentist treat you like a number and rush you in and out. I was not overly impressed with my first time visit. The dentist was on a mission and didn't bother to spend 30 seconds to introduce herself to a new patient. Everything she did was extremely rushed... I honestly don't know how there are so many positive reviews because I thought she was actually one of the worst dentists I've seen in 20+ years. Maybe she was having an off day. It took the dental hygienist 3 different attempts to get one X-ray on my back right molar which was obnoxious. Will not be coming back.

After nearly 22 years of scary military dental, I visited this site for a new job medical screening requirement. I loved the facility, people were friendly and professional, the process was easy, and I actually didn't fear walking to the dental chair. I look forward to whenever I go back.

Excellent dental services, highly recommended. Doctors and techs work thoroughly with each Procedure. Started going here three years ago, had to go to another Dentist but the service wasn't like this place. Receptionist, Techs, and Doctors greet you with a welcoming smile, as though they appreciate your service and cares about the patients needs.
