As a practicing dentist in the Sugar House area of Salt Lake City, Dr. Jared Theurer is well known for his talents as a general and aesthetic dentist. In February 2010, the Crown Councilan international group of leading-edge dentistsawarded him Young Dentist of the Year. Dr. Theurer is a graduate of the University of Utah and the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry, where he graduated with highest honors and received a doctorate of dental surgery.
He is a member of the Crown Council, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Academy of General Dentistry, American Dental Association, Utah Dental Association, and the Alumni Association of the University of the Pacific. He is also an annual volunteer for the Smiles for Life Foundation and many other worthwhile humanitarian dental projects.
Besides dentistry, his lifes passions include fly fishing, fly tying, and traveling with his family. A lifelong resident of Sugar House, Dr. Theurer is married to his Highland High School sweetheart, Heather, and has four sons, Benjamin, Henry, Heber, and Carter, and one daughter, Libby, who is the newest addition to his wonderful family.
He loves practicing dentistry and has always taken pride in the quality of his work. He gains great satisfaction in helping people attain a healthy, beautiful smile. As a dentist, Dr. David P. Thorup focuses his efforts on achieving successful patient outcomes. He understands that obtaining this goal starts with a deep fundamental understanding of each dental specialty.
Dr. Thorup received a bachelors degree from the University of Utah and his DMD degree from the Medical University of South Carolina School of Dentistry where he also received an award for the Best of the Best Excellence in Prosthodontics. He completed a General Practice Residency at the University of Utah, where he was trained by some of Utahs top specialists in the areas of implant placement, root canal therapy, wisdom teeth removal, and cosmetic dentistry.
Dr. David P. Thorup is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, and Utah Dental Association. He is an active volunteer in humanitarian dental missions. He has been a volunteer dentist with the Rise and Rebuild Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping people in the Philippines.
In addition to dentistry, Dr. David P. Thorup, DMD, loves spending time with his wife and son. As a family, they enjoy kayaking, hiking, traveling, trying new restaurants, and being a beach bum. In his spare time, Dr. Thorup likes to watch and play basketball, golf, and football.

Dr. Theurer is very professional and one of the best dentists I've been to. I have had anxiety issues with the dentist my whole life and the team at sugar house dentist has been supportive and informative throughout all of my procedures. This team provides unmatched quality service and care.

I'd like to share an honest account of our most recent visit to Dr. Thorup at the Sugar House Dentist practice and express how grateful I am for the wonderful experience(s) provided by him and his team. So, I'll begin by saying that Dr. Thorup is amazing. Like, he's just awesome; an exceptionally knowledgeable dentist, super patient, and extremely caring. Since relocating to Salt Lake City, our family has seen Dr. Thorup a handful of times for routine checkups and cleanings as well as consultations for braces and gum rejuvenation. Recently, our 10 y/o daughter needed two upper teeth removed to make space for her adult teeth to prevent overcrowding and be fitted for braces. At our initial consultation, Dr. Thorup explained the procedure, discussed the team who would assist him, and provided his recommendations as well as alternative options to consider, which we greatly appreciated. We felt comfortable knowing that whatever decision we made that Dr. Thorup's main objective was to ensure that our daughter would be safe and comfortable. He also kept us informed of pre- and post-procedure instructions to ensure that the process went well and as described. On the day of the procedure, and as you can imagine, our daughter was nervous but Dr. Thorup has an amazing demeanor with not only children but also with parents (who have lots of questions <*raises hand>). We all met the anesthesiologist who was equally as amazing as Dr. Thorup and provided us with more detail as to what to expect from his practice. As the procedure began, we were able to stay with our daughter and were so grateful for the team's accommodation and patience. All in all, the procedure went as planned and we were able to be chair-side when our daughter woke up. Dr. Thorup and his team spent time going over post-procedure details to ensure that our daughter was comfortable for the remainder of the day and what to expect for the coming days of recovery. Our daughter did great the days following the procedure and we could not be happier with the outcomes. Again, we cannot thank him and his team enough for the great experience. We are truly proud to be patients of Dr. Thorup and look forward to many, many years of his service. I would 100% recommend Dr. Thorup and his team for all of your family dentistry needs. True story!

If I could give 10 stars to this establishment, I would in a heartbeat. I have been going to Dr. Thorup (the mvp!) for 4 years now, and he has changed my life in unforeseen and unimaginable ways. How, you may be wondering?!? Well, first, he completely changed my perspective on dental care. I came to him after YEARS of experiencing severe tooth pain and tooth decay ( I lost over 7 teeth due to the acute anxiety I had from a very unpleasant dental experience); however, from the first time I sat in Dr. Thorup's chair, I immediately felt heard, seen, and believed. He carefully honored my pain and anxiety, but also worked to move me from it so he could administer much needed care for my poorly maintained teeth. Four years later ( with one root canal, two implants, and a bridge/crown), that gentle patience and detailed care that he embodies, has led me to have a beautiful smile that had improved my mental, physical, and emotional health. No longer do I have to hide my smile or close my mouth in photos. Thanks to Dr. Thorup and his AMAZING staff, I can smile again, be confident again, and experience life without fear. Going to his office didn't just fix my teeth- it showed me how my life had been consumed with fear, resulting in a lack of trust for many humans in the health care world. I am grateful for the smile I am exuding as I write this post, and I credit that all to Dr. Thorup and the fabulous folks over at Sugar House Dentistry!

I love going to the dentist solely because of the staff and Dr Theurer. You feel like family when you come in. We have our own inside jokes. They've been so accommodating, answering questions, finding things out. Always so cheerful and let's be honest- having the option to be put to sleep for dental work is an incredible option they offer! My mouth project of 25 years is almost a reality thanks to Dr Theurer and staff!

Finding a new dentist for me was very hard at first. Then I found Dr Thorup! I found him because a friend of mine was a nurse there and she was doing my Botox there. I had asked her if they are just general dentists. So I started seeing Dr Thorup. Dr Thorup is truly the most amazing dentist on the planet. Back in December of 2021 I went in and he happened to ask after my appointment if there was anything else I wanted to talk about. I told him I had this one crooked tooth that I no longer wanted to be crooked. Even if he had to rip out teeth then do just do it! He refused to rip out teeth (even though I gave him permission) and then he recommended Invisalign. It's been so amazing to see the results. I actually love smiling even though I have one set of trays left my teeth are almost perfect. But I used to smile with only my top teeth showing because those have always been naturally straight. But now I am so happy with these result that I love showing all my teeth when I smile. He literally gave me my confidence back by making my smile more beautiful. I'm a pretty needy patient and Dr Thorup is one of the only doctors that can handle my neediness. Go see the friendly people here. They work with you on payments. It's always wonderful to go see them. Thank you all!

My family and I moved out of Salt Lake last summer. We definitely took for granted how good of a setup we had with Dr. Theurer and the Sugar House team. My wife and I saw Dr. Theurer about twice a year for 5-6 years and never had any issues. They gave our daughter her first exams and she was always happy and loved her little toy reward. We never had to wait past appointment times, routine visits were easy for everyone, and they even have a really cool 3D teeth mapping system thingy. I had some cavities that had to be filled and their rates were definitely fair. Dr. Theurer and the hygienists were always kind, efficient, and helpful. We never had any issues with billing - even with things that insurance wouldn't cover. After seeing what people have to deal with at other dentists, which I was naive to for the past 6+ years, I felt compelled to search them up to give a good review. I would recommend The Sugar House dentist to anyone living in Salt Lake. Definitely one of the good ones.

I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Thorup on Saturdays. He is the kindest, most genuine dentist I have ever worked for in my 12 years of doing dental hygiene. I wish I could've stayed longer, but my life had other plans and I had to sadly leave. All of his staff are kind, caring, patient, and take the time to listen. Dr. Thorup stays up to date with current technology and I was fascinated by what I learned from him every week. This is a wonderful office and I highly recommend putting your trust in them for your dental care.

The Sugar House Dentist is one of the best dentistry's I've ever been to. Being 22 years old and traveling the country for work finding a new dentist can be very daunting. My first week in SLC after my plane ride from Florida I got a serious tooth ache obviously initiated from the flight. By my 3rd day here the pain didn't go away instead it got worse my left cheek was swelled up like a baseball and I was in so much pain I couldn't help but cry and beg for relief. I called the Sugar House explaining to them I had an infection and I was in need of emergency work done. I was in that day and the moment I got into their office they took me into their arms and numbed me up with no charge. They sent me up stairs to the orthodontist where I had a root canal and abscess drainage done and all my pain was gone. I then followed up with The Sugar House where I got a crown fitted and installed which was a very smooth and well done process to this day I can't tell that I have a crown. Now that I had a lot of well gained trust for them I wanted to get all my remaining cavities drilled and filled and my teeth cleaned. They were very lenient with their scheduling considering I work Monday-Friday 7am-7pm my availability was little to none. I was able to get in every Saturday where I got all the work I needed done. Now being cavity free and having a better understanding with the quality of my teeth I can't deny my confidence has sky rocketed and I can't help but smile over it.

I'd give a zero star if I could!!! Watch your billing on these guys. I paid my normal amount for the services I NORMALLY RECEIVED when my girl aerial worked there. They put me with someone else because she was sick. I THOUGHT I RECEIVED MY NORMAL TREATMENT only to months later get told I had an outstanding bill. I asked Savanna look into it because I paid my normal amount on my HSA card. She call almost a month later after that call, to tell me that the dentist said he did more product and that's why there was an outstanding bill. Nothing was said about using more product until months later when they wanted more money. Nothing was said when I was in the chair and why wouldn't they go by the records my normal girl charted. I will never go there again!!! Watch your billing!!!

Both Dr Theurer and Dr Thorup are amazing. There are many dentists where I live, but we drive out of our way to this office because they have great bedside manner, are kind people and do great work. A while back, I had a brother visiting from out of state who needed emergency dental care. The dental office schedule was completely booked, but Dr Thorup made time the very next morning to see my brother. I'm happy to say my brother healed up perfectly and still talks about his positive experience at this office. I have never had any billing issue with this office. If a big procedure needs to take place, they give the cost of procedure upfront and the amount insurance should cover. After my copay and waiting for insurance to cover their portion, I've had zero billing issues.

Dr. Thorup is a great dentist! He is always putting the patient first and is so kind and gentle. He takes the time to call and check in on you after your procedure and he genuinely cares about the welfare of his patients. I did Invisalign with him and I had great success with it. Dr. Thorup was very encouraging going through that process. His assistant Juliet is so kind and friendly and definitely makes the experience at the dentist more enjoyable. His hygienist Christopher is so great and friendly and my teeth always feel so clean after my hygiene appointments. You won't find a better dentist or office!

I have a complicated mouth and I've been to several dentists and specialists, Dr Thoruop is BY FAR the BEST dentist I have ever been to! He did an incredible job and contacted me regularly to see how I was doing and he even helped load me into My car after a long but necessary visit under anesthesia. I think I've found my life dentist! Look no where else for exceptional dental care
