Providing world-class dentistry and improving my patients dental function, overall health, and aesthetics is extremely fulfilling, both on a personal and a professional level. Even after practicing dentistry for 33 years, each day continues to be unique because each case and every patient is unique. Practicing in the heart of the melting pot of the world, Ive met and have come to know many people from all corners of the globe and have had cultural exchanges from a unique cross section of New Yorkers, all of whom enrich me personally.
I completed my undergraduate education at Brandeis University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology in 1978. I earned my Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1981 from New York University College of Dentistry. While my formal education is complete, my thirst for knowledge is never ending. I attend numerous forms of continuing education every year and I am always incorporating new and improved advanced dental equipment, materials and techniques to improve patient care and satisfaction.
I work in association with Donated Dental Services, a program for disadvantaged people with dental needs that have neither the financial resources nor public assistance for their dental care. The smiles and grateful responses I receive from these patients are the warmest and most sincere of all, sometimes even accompanied by tears of joy upon completion of their care. These add to some of my fondest memories from my years of practice.
While I may be passionate about my Green Bay Packers and, over the past 33 years of establishing Herald Square Dental & The Denture Center as one of New York Citys premier dental offices, my practice is of great importance to me however, the reality is that I am most passionate about my family. Both my wife, Joan and myself come from very close families and we are the proud parents of three grown young men, James, Joshua, and Lucas, and our wonderful dog, Riggs. Although little league baseball, recreation league basketball, Jazz band, and forensics has faded into spirited debates about politics and our beloved NY Mets, it is always with love, warmth, and passion. My hobbies of hiking and traveling would be empty if I were not sharing those with the one I am most passionate about, my wife Joanie!

I was apprehensive about my visit because I was overdue for a cleaning and the horror stories friends have shared about their experiences at other dental practices. From start to finish, everything was pleasant and welcoming. Most importantly, my teeth are so much cleaner. Definitely recommend Smilist in North Babylon.

Today was my 3rd visit to The Smilist the week. As rough as the visits have been for me, everyone who treated me was patient, caring, and so professional. I was treated with such high quality of care and explained everything in great detail regarding my treatment plan. I learned a lot as well and I cannot see myself going any other place for my dental needs. I am so happy and grateful to have found this place and trust that my dental health is in good hands! Everyone here is so friendly. It was my first time being able to visit a dentist and I was nervous to come in and felt like i would be scolded or would feel bad. Everyone from the second I walked in was beyond friendly. The lovely woman who cleaned my teeth made me feel so comfortable and the doctor was so kind! The woman who helped me at the desk printed my papers out for me and made the breakdown of prices and scheduling more appointments so easy. I am horrible with names so I apologize, but I had an appointment at 6pm & they were so nice to accommodate.

"I am deathly afraid of the dentist". At the Smilist I have never been so comfortable !!! Everyone there is so friendly and really show concern. I have had 3 visits so far and feel more and more at ease with them. I saw Dr.Fishman for an extraction and Lindsey for my cleaning and deep cleaning. They were both excellent !!! Now I am not afraid anymore. Yayyyyy for me and BRAVO to them. Thank you to all !

When checking in, Ariel was curt. Perhaps she was having a bad day. Upon hearing I'd be filling out the survey, she changed her demeanor. Michelle went above and beyond. I called Thursday stating I had a cracked my tooth. She tried to rearrange other appointments just to get me in. No other place has ever done that. I made sure to tell her in person. Once in the exam room, Donna, was examining me. I was asking questions and found her responses to be quite condescending. I was simply asking WHY I needed an X-ray. I mentioned this to her and she apologized. She assured me she is not like that at all. Dr. Sara and Lindsay were once again amazing. Dr. Sara explained everything she was doing, with kindness and compassion.

Lindsay was incredible with me. I have anxiety about going to the dentist. She was kind and considerate. She numbed my gums. She advised me to do an antibacterial cleansing of my gums. She was gentle. She explained everything she was doing to me. She advised me to get a water pic. She advised me to start flossing. The staff was so nice.

I went to the dentist and felt very comfortable there. They listen to what your pain is like and then explain every thing they will do. Highly recommend them. Return visit to have a tooth extracted. Didnt even know it was out. Dr. Howard did an awesome job with his assistant. Very nice people. Kept me very comfortable and relaxed. Like I told them, he's a God sent. Highly recommend them! Beat dentist I ever went to.

I had an amazing experience here from start to finish. From the phone call making the appointment to the end. Michelle at the front desk is an angel. So accommodating and kind. I was having bad tooth pain. The oral surgeon was in and out in like 8 minutes. Made me feel so comfortable and a lot better. Thank you all!

I usually hate going to the dentist and I was a bit anxious trying a new place. I moved to Long Island from Queens and I am non binary and that isn't always a great thing trying out new places. I was pleasantly surprised as the second I walked in to the Smilest everyone was very welcoming and warm! My dental hygienist Debbie was very kind and knowledgeable. She and I talked about everything from going to Disney to how to floss properly. It felt like I was talking to an old friend. I was very happy with my experience there and I actually can't wait to go back!
