Providing world-class dentistry and improving my patients dental function, overall health, and aesthetics is extremely fulfilling, both on a personal and a professional level. Even after practicing dentistry for 33 years, each day continues to be unique because each case and every patient is unique. Practicing in the heart of the melting pot of the world, Ive met and have come to know many people from all corners of the globe and have had cultural exchanges from a unique cross section of New Yorkers, all of whom enrich me personally.
I completed my undergraduate education at Brandeis University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology in 1978. I earned my Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1981 from New York University College of Dentistry. While my formal education is complete, my thirst for knowledge is never ending. I attend numerous forms of continuing education every year and I am always incorporating new and improved advanced dental equipment, materials and techniques to improve patient care and satisfaction.
I work in association with Donated Dental Services, a program for disadvantaged people with dental needs that have neither the financial resources nor public assistance for their dental care. The smiles and grateful responses I receive from these patients are the warmest and most sincere of all, sometimes even accompanied by tears of joy upon completion of their care. These add to some of my fondest memories from my years of practice.
While I may be passionate about my Green Bay Packers and, over the past 33 years of establishing Herald Square Dental & The Denture Center as one of New York Citys premier dental offices, my practice is of great importance to me however, the reality is that I am most passionate about my family. Both my wife, Joan and myself come from very close families and we are the proud parents of three grown young men, James, Joshua, and Lucas, and our wonderful dog, Riggs. Although little league baseball, recreation league basketball, Jazz band, and forensics has faded into spirited debates about politics and our beloved NY Mets, it is always with love, warmth, and passion. My hobbies of hiking and traveling would be empty if I were not sharing those with the one I am most passionate about, my wife Joanie!

Terrible. They don't try to accommodate. I've had my appointment rescheduled twice because they cancelled it without reaching out to confirm a time. Absolutely terrible.

Excellent visit. First time in years that I enjoyed sitting in the chair at the Dental office. Great group of professionals who also are very friendly and great at taking care of your teeth. I guarantee you'll leave the office like I did, with a big smile!

This review is long overdue. Most of the time, people only write reviews when they're mad or unsatisfied with something. I'm the same way, but I really want to write this review for people out there who don't know what a good dental hygienist does. Smilist Dental Hygienist Nancy is thorough. Very thorough. She really cleans your teeth. I'm always surprised when I hear how a friend went to some other dental practice and their dental hygienist spent 10 minutes with them. Maybe 15 minutes. Unfortunately, corporations are buying up most private dental practices, and these corporations then tell their hygienists to reduce the time they spend with patients. "Get 'em in and get 'em out is their policy." For the most part, that's just the way it is nowadays with corporate dental chains; however, not with the Smilist. I'm happy to say that Smilist corporate policy has not been to reduce the time hygienists spend cleaning your teeth. So for those of you out there who think a 10-15 minute cleaning is the norm -- and you just never experienced anything longer -- then give The Smilist a try. I can't speak for every Smilist office on Long Island, but I can vouch for the Mattituck Smilist office. Cleanings are at least 30-45 minutes. When you leave the Mattituck office, your teeth and gums are actually clean. Two thumbs up to Dental Hygienist Nancy and all the other staff members at the Mattituck Smilist (especially Assistant Manager Courtney). Lastly - a note to Smilist corporate management: Please don't change your policy about how much time you allow dental hygienists to spend with patients. Your reasonable policy and Nancy are the main reasons I keep coming back.

I called 10 min after my appt was to start and said I was running late and the person told me I was out of luck and couldn't reschedule until April of 2023

Very clean. Everyone is nice. The Dr was great, he explained to me everything that I could do with my tooth which had a root canal 2 years ago. Unfortunately didn't work. He explained to me about either doing an implant or a bridge.
