Providing world-class dentistry and improving my patients dental function, overall health, and aesthetics is extremely fulfilling, both on a personal and a professional level. Even after practicing dentistry for 33 years, each day continues to be unique because each case and every patient is unique. Practicing in the heart of the melting pot of the world, Ive met and have come to know many people from all corners of the globe and have had cultural exchanges from a unique cross section of New Yorkers, all of whom enrich me personally.
I completed my undergraduate education at Brandeis University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology in 1978. I earned my Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1981 from New York University College of Dentistry. While my formal education is complete, my thirst for knowledge is never ending. I attend numerous forms of continuing education every year and I am always incorporating new and improved advanced dental equipment, materials and techniques to improve patient care and satisfaction.
I work in association with Donated Dental Services, a program for disadvantaged people with dental needs that have neither the financial resources nor public assistance for their dental care. The smiles and grateful responses I receive from these patients are the warmest and most sincere of all, sometimes even accompanied by tears of joy upon completion of their care. These add to some of my fondest memories from my years of practice.
While I may be passionate about my Green Bay Packers and, over the past 33 years of establishing Herald Square Dental & The Denture Center as one of New York Citys premier dental offices, my practice is of great importance to me however, the reality is that I am most passionate about my family. Both my wife, Joan and myself come from very close families and we are the proud parents of three grown young men, James, Joshua, and Lucas, and our wonderful dog, Riggs. Although little league baseball, recreation league basketball, Jazz band, and forensics has faded into spirited debates about politics and our beloved NY Mets, it is always with love, warmth, and passion. My hobbies of hiking and traveling would be empty if I were not sharing those with the one I am most passionate about, my wife Joanie!

Very professional, helpful and service oriented. Dr. Salem explains everything and does great work. Marybeth, Administrative is kind and helpful with financials. Sanead, hygienist was super at my cleaning and educating me on how to care for my teeth with flossing, waterpic and brush. She should teach a class at all schools on this. Feel empowered and better about my dental care.

My experience was excellent. I made a last minute appointment and Marybeth was able to work wonders. Dr. Salem worked patiently and diligently to make my experience pain free and pleasant. I am grateful to all their efforts which made my treatment a great success.

I have such highly anxiety when it come to the dentist. The sound of the drill itself makes me nervous. The team at this office is so kind and patient i thank them for such a great experience

The Smilist in Malverne is awesome. I needed an emergency visit and as a new customer they were there for me. Friendly courteous staff. Very pleasant. Dr. Salem is very precise and friendly. I would recommend this place in a heart beat.

I needed a new dentist and Dr Salem was the best choice i could have made. His staff, mary beth, is super helpful and i did not even feel a thing during my filling. The whole team calmed my nerves about the dental check ups and procedures as i am not a fan of dental work but this was pain free and just an all around great experience. I will be back for future dental needs!!!.

An unexpected surprise. I'd being lying if i said I wasn't apprehensive about the process. A necessary evil that I would avoid at all costs. A daunting drama filled with narratives of cavities, abseses, tooth decay, plaque build up, teeth crowding and crossing. However, my dread was met with trained and disciplined professionals that made a potentially difficult narrative read like a suspense novel or thriller. I have been coming to this Dental Office for the past couple of years & have always had a great experience. The office is extremely friendly & clean. I have only felt like I have been in good hands.
