Providing world-class dentistry and improving my patients dental function, overall health, and aesthetics is extremely fulfilling, both on a personal and a professional level. Even after practicing dentistry for 33 years, each day continues to be unique because each case and every patient is unique. Practicing in the heart of the melting pot of the world, Ive met and have come to know many people from all corners of the globe and have had cultural exchanges from a unique cross section of New Yorkers, all of whom enrich me personally.
I completed my undergraduate education at Brandeis University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology in 1978. I earned my Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1981 from New York University College of Dentistry. While my formal education is complete, my thirst for knowledge is never ending. I attend numerous forms of continuing education every year and I am always incorporating new and improved advanced dental equipment, materials and techniques to improve patient care and satisfaction.
I work in association with Donated Dental Services, a program for disadvantaged people with dental needs that have neither the financial resources nor public assistance for their dental care. The smiles and grateful responses I receive from these patients are the warmest and most sincere of all, sometimes even accompanied by tears of joy upon completion of their care. These add to some of my fondest memories from my years of practice.
While I may be passionate about my Green Bay Packers and, over the past 33 years of establishing Herald Square Dental & The Denture Center as one of New York Citys premier dental offices, my practice is of great importance to me however, the reality is that I am most passionate about my family. Both my wife, Joan and myself come from very close families and we are the proud parents of three grown young men, James, Joshua, and Lucas, and our wonderful dog, Riggs. Although little league baseball, recreation league basketball, Jazz band, and forensics has faded into spirited debates about politics and our beloved NY Mets, it is always with love, warmth, and passion. My hobbies of hiking and traveling would be empty if I were not sharing those with the one I am most passionate about, my wife Joanie!

We just moved to the area and had no choice but to find a new family dentist. We came to this place and My partner was told that he had two cavities and the recommendation was to do veneers on his back teeth #15 & #14. His last appointment with our last dentist gave him a clean bill of health. No cavities! This set off red flags. We went to get another dentist to get another opinion and got more X-rays on our expense and the results came back clear of any cavities. They were alarmed when they heard that this dentist here In Garwood was recommending veneers or suggesting he had two cavities. This place is a fraud, I'm writing to the better business bureau in regards to this place!!

I was one of those people who didn't go to the dentist since before the pandemic, and when I finally went back, I of course had some issues that had to be taken care of. Dr. Frenkel and the hygienists are friendly and more important, efficient and good at what they do. I had to go in for a few visits but each visit was quick and smooth.

Great Doctor and an equally good staff. I have been coming to this place for a year now and they are able to very efficiently address my dental issues. They are also quite flexible with appointments. Very courteous staff .

Highly recommend! Was able to get a quick appointment for severe pain I was experiencing (after calling numerous other dentists). Dr Frenkel was absolutely amazing. He was quick to empathize with the pain I was experiencing and acted with urgency to find the problem and address. He explained everything in such an easy and relatable way, without extensive medical terminology that is difficult to understand. Overall, great dentist experience.

Worst dentist ever. They forced me to take xrays when I'm 6 months pregnant. Poor hygienist felt so bad. I heard she quit over it. Steer clear of this corporate dentist. They are only interested in profit.

Extremely rude lady on the phone. Whoever took the call on 06/13/22 between 5:30 and 6:00 shouldn't be allowed to work there! Hopefully you have a recording of the call, you should listen to your staff berate and talk down to a potential client, telling me to get my story straight, and implying that I visited a periodontist (which I've never visited) when I specifically said endodontist multiple times even giving her the name and address of the endodontist. Still she claims she can't book an appointment for my daughter until I bring a note since according to her I "can't get my story straight" Why in the world would I call a dentist's office asking for one thing if I need something else, pay their fees for something I have no need for? Do people do that? Maybe it's out of a desperation to upsell? I mean is there such a dearth of workers that you pick anyone who shows up for a job? Wait, maybe that's it! Un-effing-believable!!!

I was a patient of Dr. Jasti for many years and I loved her. She was the best, she was patient and honest and did a great job. I was really really sad to see her leave. I stayed with the smilst hoping my experience would be the same but unfortunately that was not the case. At my first visits after Dr. Jasti left, x-rays were done but they made a mistake because i had xrays done already and my insurance did not cover. Thankfully it wasn't expensive but then I was stuck with the bill. Second Dr. Leary treated cavities that they found, and I decided to do all of them in one shot, which was a big mistake. I didn't realize how painful it would be and I should have know because when I said do all of them he was surprised. I asked him if it was ok to do all of them and he said it was fine. Not only should I have spaced them out but after my fillings were done my bite was off. I had to go back 4 times (from October to November) because it was causing toothaches, I was taking motrin every 6 hrs. Even dr. Frankel tried to help but I walked out of there not being helped and upset. I also specifically told Dr leary to be careful when sanding down the tooth with the crown bc one time a dentist went to deep and exposed the metal part of the crown. He assured me the crown he was shaving down didn't have metal (or whatever that silver part is) but guess what it did and he exposed part of it so now i have a silver spot on my expensive crown and the worst part is my bite was still not corrected. Never going back there. I found a new dentist and he fixed my bite without ruining any of my teeth! I wanted to cry because I thought I was always just going to be off and uncomfortable.

My first visit today and I discovered I have been brushing my teeth wrong for 45 years!!! Judy was super helpful and explained everything and gave me a great deal of confidence. I hate changing dentists but so glad I went!

I have been coming to the dentist at this location since I was a kid - more than 20 years now. When ownership changed to The Smilist we decided to stay here, and I couldn't be happier with that decision. My entire family comes to this location for our dentistry, including our three children. The staff are all kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. There is typically no wait before your appointment. Judy is amazing and we always look forward to a cleaning with her. Dr Frenkel is great and is very clear with diagnosis, treatment options, timeline, etc. He has a very soothing presence.

Heather was very helpful and tried her best to make the deep cleaning as painless as possible. She showed a lot of care and was very careful. I have not been in any pain after each deep cleaning. I definitely would recommend her to anyone.

Just finished my appointment here and I genuinely loved it. Every one was so sweet and very calming. I hadn't been to the dentist in awhile because I have a huge fear but they were lovely. Heather is so sweet and Dr Jasti was great. I'd recommend this place to everybody :)
