Providing world-class dentistry and improving my patients dental function, overall health, and aesthetics is extremely fulfilling, both on a personal and a professional level. Even after practicing dentistry for 33 years, each day continues to be unique because each case and every patient is unique. Practicing in the heart of the melting pot of the world, Ive met and have come to know many people from all corners of the globe and have had cultural exchanges from a unique cross section of New Yorkers, all of whom enrich me personally.
I completed my undergraduate education at Brandeis University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology in 1978. I earned my Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1981 from New York University College of Dentistry. While my formal education is complete, my thirst for knowledge is never ending. I attend numerous forms of continuing education every year and I am always incorporating new and improved advanced dental equipment, materials and techniques to improve patient care and satisfaction.
I work in association with Donated Dental Services, a program for disadvantaged people with dental needs that have neither the financial resources nor public assistance for their dental care. The smiles and grateful responses I receive from these patients are the warmest and most sincere of all, sometimes even accompanied by tears of joy upon completion of their care. These add to some of my fondest memories from my years of practice.
While I may be passionate about my Green Bay Packers and, over the past 33 years of establishing Herald Square Dental & The Denture Center as one of New York Citys premier dental offices, my practice is of great importance to me however, the reality is that I am most passionate about my family. Both my wife, Joan and myself come from very close families and we are the proud parents of three grown young men, James, Joshua, and Lucas, and our wonderful dog, Riggs. Although little league baseball, recreation league basketball, Jazz band, and forensics has faded into spirited debates about politics and our beloved NY Mets, it is always with love, warmth, and passion. My hobbies of hiking and traveling would be empty if I were not sharing those with the one I am most passionate about, my wife Joanie!

The Dr's are so nice and friendly they take their time with their patients. They are like family when you go there. I would definitely tell people about them. I wouldn't change my dr there for anything. Dr. Kirshenbaum to me is like family he listens when you talk and is very careful with his patience if they are in pain. I wouldn't change him for another dr.

We are extremely satisfied with the compassion knowledge and professionalism of the support staff and the dentist Dr. Kirshenbaum and the oral surgeon Dr. Petti are outstanding with their insight and compassion

I have been coming to this office for years. Very pleased and comfortable with all the services they provide at this practice. Staff and dentists are very patient and kind with all the members of my family. They do a great job with our dental cleaning or specialties. They are very reliable to our needs. We love the care they give us. We are very happy and thankful to be part of this group. Today I saw Dr Astor and her Assistant. Like in the pass they have been exceptional. Very happy to have her as my Periodontist. She is a very caring, gentle and cares about my needs. Makes me feel comfortable and is always aware on how am I feeling. I am so pleased to have such a great team of dentistry.. So Happy!!! You guys are the best! Today I saw our loving gentle and caring dentist Dr Kirschenbaum and his wonderful Assistant. Like always no complaints. Dr K. always helps me feel at ease. In the past I have been traumatized at another office. Still 19 yrs later Dr K and staff still work with care and respect to myself and family. I am always happy and comfortable having this practice care for my needs. I appreciate them! Today I was seen by Dr. Kirschenbaum and his assistants which were friendly and caring. I was seen last week to have a temporary before putting on a bridge. It broke and i called to get it fixed, was scheduled right away. My loving dentist took excellent care and repaired it. I will recommend anyone to be part of this team anytime. Love this group! Once again can be more grateful to be part of this great team. Dr Kirschenbaum and Periodontist Dr. Astor are exceptional Dr's. They both are caring, gentle and overall great dentistry. Like always with care and gentle work I was treated by an awesome team. I have no worries with their caring work towards their patients. He had 2 Assistants which one was being trained. The girls showed care and compassion towards me. They made me feel very comfortable making sure I felt ok. I am so blessed to be part of a loving caring group. I thank them all for their support. I was seen by Dr. J.J. on an emergency. He was funny and kind. I was very relaxed and comfortable. Good experience. Today i was seen by Dr Kirschenbaum. We have the best dentist. He has patience, caring and compassionate with his patients. Along with the 60's or 70's music playing in the background helps keep me distracted while they work in my mouth.. I have said it before. I love this group!!! Thank you guys!!!

I called the office Monday morning to see if Dr Petty could get me in early to extract my tooth because I was in excruciating pain all weekend and the fit me in that afternoon and they were kind and gentle. I truly appreciate everyone going out of there way to help me in my time of need. Thank you

I had a root canal today with Dr. JJ. It was executed without pain, but I did have to wait about 40 minutes for my appointment to begin. Update: went to Dr. JJ today. He's great - fitted me for a mouth guard and put in my crown expertly. No wait at the office today.

I had been beyond nervous for my extractions, but everyone here made me feel very, very comfortable. I was especially impressed by Morgan's ability to perfectly understand what I was groggily saying through my gauze-filled mouth. It was a much more efficient conversation than trying to finger spell my name to the poor pharmacist who clearly did not know ASL, and just looked at my swollen face with pity. Thank you for the great experience!

Came back cause I had another appointment. On this episode of General Dentist; staff workers were fighting over a custody battle. It sounded serious, but hilarious. I'm pretty sure it was over who could give Mrs. fluffybutt the best head scratches and belly rubs. Never got name but I hope the blonde one gets custody. She sounds like a good cat mom with fine wine tastes. Got my filings done, and the process was so smooth. I almost fell asleep, kinda like torture asmr, but the real stars of the show were the staff members walking past the door going about their daily lives. It was like a behind the scenes of your favorite show only I couldn't change the channel, I'm making full direct eye contact with the staff walking by the door. There was no remote and the tv is always on... but i didn't want it to end, the plot was getting thiccer than a bowl of oatmeal. Highly recommend for the upmost quality and entertaining of dental care. Your mouth may be invaded by professionals, but at least there's a live performance! Also there's constructions outside the building at this moment, I didn't know how anyone parked in the lot and I wasn't gonna ask, (cause im dumb and stubborn) so I just parked at the soccer fields and walked to the building. If you're traveling at this time just be wary.

So thankful for the people that work here. After an emergency visit to my dentist and in severe pain I was given a referral for the 4 wisdoms to be extracted. Problem was that all of the local surgeons couldn't get me scheduled for another 2-3 months. The last number I called should've been my first because they were able to get me scheduled for the extraction in much less than 30 days, they're less than an hour away and everyone in the office was friendly and professional. They should be your first call. Thanks to these folks I'm no longer in pain and can smile again.
