After graduating, Dr Shawn focused on continuing education, with heavy emphasis on surgery and implantology. His passion for continuing education allows him to provide his patient with comprehensive and cutting edge approach to dental treatment.
Dr. Shawn is a strong advocate of volunteering and loves giving back to the underserved community both domestic and foreign. He has participated with the U.S. Navy on dental humanitarian missions in countries such as the Philippians, Singapore, Vietnam, East Timor, Cambodia, and the Dominican Republic.

Such a great place. Their chairs have massage chairs built in! They are friendly and easy going which is perfect for a dentist.

Smile Spa is amazing Dr Joelle and Dr Shawn are fantastic they make you feel right at home especially with their massaging chairs. Their staff is exceptional. Can not say enough good things about them. If you are unsure about your dentist or if your looking to change your dentist you need to go check them out.

What a great office and dentist. I called them on a Thursday with a cracked tooth and they got me the next day, as a new patient I was amazed at the level of service and care I was given. Christy at the front desk could not have been nicer and Dr. Shawn Nguyen was the kindest dentist I have ever had!! Thank you so much for the great experience!!

I will start by saying I am the "I hate the dentist" person. After a traumatic childhood dental experience, I have avoided to my best ability. I broke a molar and was in significant discomfort and took straight to google/local Mom's groups for referrals. Smile Spa came up and after reading all the reviews, I was sold. I was SO anxious. I had to force myself into the appointment. The team from the front office all the way through the x-ray process made me feel like I was talking to friends or visiting a routine salon appointment. Fast forward to meeting Dr. Joelle and Dr. Shawn and I was immediately at ease. Learned that the tooth I broke was actually my wisdom teeth and had to immediately have them removed within a few days. Here I am one day "post-op" on a deep cleaning and all four wisdom teeth extractions and I can easily say the experience was phenomenal. I will no longer put off going to the dentist as I have found my safe haven! The recovery I am experiencing is nothing like that of peers or family members who have had wisdom teeth removed as an adult, which is an absolute testament to the skill of Dr. Shawn. An absolute heartfelt thank you to all at The Smile Spa that truly left me smiling when all I wanted to do was run beforehand!

I was in search of a great dentist and luckily came across Dr. Elahad... I had been dreading getting my wisdom teeth pulled for as long as I can remember but as soon as I met with her and all the amazing staff I felt so comfortable and confident I came in and got them pulled the next day!! Every other dentist/oral surgeon I saw told me it would be a week to two week recovery but Dr. Elahad promised me I'd be fine the next day and I was. If you need the best dentist and staff in La just stop your search now and go here. Thank me later

I absolutely love The Smile Spa! I have primarily avoided having any dental work due to my anxiety. I can honestly say I have had THE best experience. The entire staff is very knowledgeable, efficient, and extraordinarily caring. They really made me feel at ease. I truly felt they went above and beyond to ensure I was provided with payment options, procedure details, and accommodated my travel schedule. I flew in from Arizona and was able to return home the same day with the most amazing veneers! I find myself constantly smiling so confidently. My only regret is not visiting The Smile Spa sooner.

After moving, I wanted to find a new dentist nearby. I had been receiving the Smile Spa cards in the mail for a few months and (after some Google research) decided to give them a try. Wow. I'm so glad that I did. State of the art office and treatments. Super friendly and pleasant staff and Dr. Joelle was even more amazing. Very upfront about pricing for any upgrades or improvements. Such a pleasant experience. Christine is a superstar. Needless to say, I've found my new dentist.

I can't even begin to express how awesome this practice is ,they are so welcoming right from the start.And they ease your anxiety right away.I have a lot of work to be done.Just finished with my first oral surgery and it went amazing.I will never go anywhere else

This place went above and beyond with me! I'm a very very very nervous person going to the dentist. But these guys made me feel really comfortable and I honestly wouldn't go anywhere else! I actually enjoy the dentist now more than ever!! Definitely will be recommending them to friends and family!

I visited the Smile Spa recently for a tooth extraction and bone graft during my visit to LA. I was able to see Dr. Joelle and Dr. Shawn on a short notice and they are both very approachable, attentive and patient. They answered all my questions and eased my nerves before / during / after the procedure. Dr. Shawn performed the extraction and bone graft in under an hour, and I could barely feel any pressure, or even pain. The receptionists and assistants were super friendly and welcoming, as well, and filed all my insurance paperwork for me. And the office has all the latest technologies for dental care and esthetics. Do not hesitate to give their office a visit for all your future dental needs!

Like everyone, I deeply dislike going to the dentist. However, today I walked out of the dentist literally feeling more relaxed than before I walked in. Here's why: First, the office staff is so unbelievably kind and helpful. They ran my insurance before I came in and again when I was at the office to avoid any surprise bills for me. In this economy, that diligent checking is a huge relief. The office itself is in a new, fresh building. Parking was a breeze. I was seen immediately and everyone was so, so lovely. The X-rays were not your traditional X-Rays where you sit panicking and sweating under a lead vest for what seems like hours as the tech leaves the room to take the picture. They have the newest, latest technology so the x-rays are far less stressful than the outdated techniques. The room I was in was beautiful. Light, airy. Big window with a view of trees and the mountains. So much better than those sad, sickly, dreary spaces I was used to. And best of all? The chair you sit in during the cleaning was a massage chair with heat!! The dentist, Dr. Joelle Abed Elahad, is a true gift to the practice and dental patients everywhere! I felt so secure and she was so fast and so gentle at the same time. I've been in a lot of medical offices and I only wish half the doctors I saw were as compassionate. 10/10 could not recommend more. See you all in six months!

I recently had a follow-up visit with Dr Nguyen for my front tooth implant. First of all I LOVE their office space. It seems more like an ad agency than a medical office. Very edgy/inviting. My overall experience today was, once again absolutely delightful. Christine greeted me at the front desk and helped me breeze through some forms. Nestor then took some x-rays/scans. Both were courteous and professional. Then Dr Nguyen put me at immediate ease -- explaining the procedure for the day, his approach, and what I should expect. He then numbed me up nicely and methodically took care of business. I was in and out probably 45 minutes. He said all went well. And... I felt virtually no pain. On my way out Sadie, who was covering the front desk booked me a follow up appointment, then showed me to the elevator. All in all, a wonderful visit. Thx Dr Shawn! You and your entire staff ROCKS!

The best experience I had at a dentist office, ever! The staff was so accommodating and professional. Quality service exceeded my expectations. My 9 year old took to the staff extremely well. I highly recommend them for your family dentist.

The doctors and staff at The Smile Spa are friendly and professional. The office is state of the art and each person makes it a point to ensure the patient is taken care of. Great follow up with texts to remind about appointments and answer any questions. I highly recommend them!
