Experience counts! Dr. Erickson and Dr. Hong between them bring over 40+ years of experience and have successfully treated thousands of happy patients. We have been repeatedly recognized in the Washingtonian magazine, Washington Checkbook, and Washington Parent as one of the best practices in the Washington metropolitan area. Our doctors are always attending seminars and conferences to stay up to date on the latest advancements in orthodontics. Outside of straightening teeth, Dr. Erickson and Dr. Hong like to go on dental missions to help the underserved population. They also support the local community by sponsoring schools, churches, and teams. Know that by selecting The Silver Spring Orthodontist, you are selecting the best providers for your orthodontic care!

At our practice, we use the latest advanced technology to ensure the most thorough diagnosis and treatment planning. We understand that all patients are different and require customized treatment plans. Rest assured, that is what youll get at our office.

Its more important than ever to brush and floss regularly when you have braces, so the teeth and gums are healthy during orthodontic treatment. Patients who do not keep their teeth clean may require more frequent visits to the dentist for a professional cleaning. Adults who have a history of gum disease should also see a periodontist during orthodontic treatment. Watch the two videos below on the proper care of braces during orthodontic treatment.

What can you eat? Lets talk about what you shouldnt eat! For the first day or so, stick to soft foods. Avoid tough meats, hard breads, and raw vegetables. Before long, youll be able to bite a cucumber again. But youll need to protect your orthodontic appliances when you eat for as long as youre wearing braces.

A Proxabrush is an interdental (between the teeth) toothbrush that you may use to clean underneath and around your wires and braces. Use the Proxabrush gently to avoid damaging your wires. The Proxabrush will help you to clean your braces while maintaining healthy teeth and gums.

Rinse your mouth with two teaspoons of Peroxyl (half a capful) for one minute and then spit it out. You may use Peroxyl up to four times daily following your schedule for brushing: after meals (or after school) and before bed. Just like using peroxide for a scrape on your skin, Peroxyl helps the inside of your mouth heal. Peroxyl can be used for general irritation caused by your braces or for canker sores, cheek bites and other minor temporary injuries to the gums.

The use of Phos-Flur does not replace daily brushing and flossing but should be done following your daily schedule at bedtime. Place a small strip of Phos-Flur on a toothbrush and apply it to your teeth for one minute and spit it out. You may not eat or drink for 30 minutes after you use Phos-Flur. It is important for the active ingredient to stay on your teeth for 30 minutes, so do not wash it away by eating or drinking.

When you get your braces on, you may feel general soreness in your mouth and teeth may be tender to biting pressures for 3 5 days. Take Tylenol or whatever you normally take for headache or discomfort. The lips, cheeks and tongue may also become irritated for one to two weeks as they toughen and become accustomed to the braces. We will supply wax to put on the braces in irritated areas to lessen discomfort.

To successfully complete orthodontic treatment, the patient must work together with the orthodontist. The teeth and jaws can only move toward their corrected positions if the patient consistently wears the rubber bands or other appliances as prescribed. Lack of cooperation following instructions and damaged appliances lengthen the treatment time so please follow instructions.

This is a review for the past 10 years. I am now 21 years old. I was fortunate enough to have a mother who cared about my dental care from the time i was about 6 years old. I had other dentists before Dr.Erickson who were effortless and poor compared to what Dr. Erickson does. I had huge gaps in my teeth, many problems. Dr. Erickson not only aligned my teeth PERFECTLY with braces but went above and beyond. When i was about 11 years old, my braces broke. I was very physical and played many sports. My mother called Dr. Erickson ASAP and he showed up, himself, before the office opened (maybe 5 am before school) and fixed my braces himself. Again during closing hours. This man has genuine care for his clients like no other professional i have dealt with. I went from the worst teeth in olney to the best smile in maryland, thanks to Doctor Erickson. His whole staff reflects his morals and determination, all of the associates from the front desk of both offices to the partners in the back, to the doctors who come check on you after. I am appalled at the results of my teeth, the care, the sympathy, the good work, effort, respect, love... i could go on. If you are reading this and need to get a dentist for your kids, i PROMISE you this is where you want to go. 5 stars in unfair. He deserves 10/5.
