Dr. Christopher L. Durham joined the practice in 2011. He was born and raised in Henderson, NC, and graduated from Northern Vance High School in 1998. He then attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated in 2002 with a degree in Biology. During his college career, Dr. Durham became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and was recognized for leadership with his induction into the Order of Omega Greek Honor Society. He also participated in the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program. Another college highlight for Dr. Durham was meeting his wife, Dr. Alison Durham.

Dr. Durham remained in Chapel Hill to receive his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and graduated with honors in 2007. While completing his doctorate, he was selected for both the Robert Bryant and the Albert Schweitzer Service Fellowships. Both fellowships were outreach projects that Dr. Durham designed to educate at-risk, minority adolescents and adults about proper oral hygiene and oral disease. Along with three other colleagues, he helped create what is now the UNC Dental Malawi Project in Malawi, Africa. He was also inducted into the Upsilon Chapter of Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society. Following dental school he completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond, VA.

Dr. Durham has a strong belief in giving back to the local and global community. He has taken part in the Mission of Mercy Dental Clinics several times in both North Carolina and Virginia. He has also traveled to San Pedro Sula, Honduras, to provide dental and oral surgery to indigent patients through Friends of Barnabas Foundation.

He is Board Certified and a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Durham is also a member of several professional organizations, including the American Association of Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS), American Dental Association, Greensboro Medical Society, International Congress of Oral Implantologists, National Dental Association, and North Carolina Dental Society.

He was the 2015 Vice President of the Third District for the North Carolina Dental Society, and is a mentor for the MALES program at UNC Chapel Hill. He is also on the United Way of Greater Greensboro African American Leadership Council,

Dr. Durham is passionate about oral surgery, but he is most passionate about his family. He enjoys spending time with his wife Alison and three children: Channing, Emory and Ophelia. The entire family enjoys being involved in the community. Drs. Chris and Alison Durham have been supporters of The Greensboro Childrens Museum, Family Services of the Piedmont, Guilford Green, Hospice & Palliative Care of Greensboro, National Conference for Community and Justice, and the United Way of Greater Greensboro.

Do you need to have oral surgery but youre worried about the pain medication youll have to take after? Dont worry! We offer Exparel to all of our patients during treatment. Exparel is an alternative to opioids that offers long-lasting pain relief.

Like we mentioned above, Exparel is an alternative to traditional opioid pain medication. We know there are many different reasons people either might not be able to or might not want to take normal pain medication and we dont want that to stop you from having the oral surgery that you need.

Exparel is different from traditional pain medication in a few ways. It only needs to be given once and that is by your doctor during surgery. The medication works for the first couple days after surgery and you dont have to worry about taking it again. Wouldnt it be nice to not have to think about making sure you take your pain medication every few hours? That way you can just focus on recovering and taking it easy.

Pain medication is important because in order to heal properly and completely, you need to manage your pain. Your body needs to focus on healing the surgery site, not managing pain. Using medication to help take that load off your body can help speed up your healing process.
