We have two offices conveniently located in San Diego, California. Our East office is located just off of I-8, east of San Diego State University. Our coastal office is located east of I-5 near Mission Bay Park. Inspired by minimalism, Dr. Koshgerian designed our office interiors with patient comfort in mind. Crisp white walls and abundant leather and walnut seating invite patients to lounge in style. Dr. Koshgerian takes a straightforward approach to care: treat every patient with respect, compassion, and dignity. Dr. Koshgerian is passionate about maintaining an oral surgery practice centered around a patients well-being. He strives to ensure everyone feels comfortable and safe while improving their oral health.
Dr. Koshgerian began his formal education at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. After working as a surgical assistant for the surgeon who removed his wisdom teeth and inspired by the specialtys unique hybrid of dentistry and medicine, he set out on the path to become an oral and maxillofacial surgeon himself.
Graduating first in his class from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry, Dr. Koshgerian earned acceptance into the prestigious oral and maxillofacial surgery residency program at the University of Louisville and its associated hospitals. Dr. Koshgerian earned his MD in 2012 and completed his general surgery training and specialty training in oral and maxillofacial surgery in 2015. Once his residency was completed, Dr. Koshgerian continued his pursuit of knowledge and surgical skill in Los Angeles at Kaiser Permanente.
Dr. Koshgerian is board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS). In order to achieve this certification status, Dr. Koshgerian had to undergo a rigorous peer evaluation process and demonstrate the requisite training, knowledge, and experience in the field.
When Dr. Koshgerian isnt treating his patients, he enjoys the beauty of the local beaches, new culinary experiences, and keeping fit by running in the magnificent weather and sunshine of San Diego. He has also performed oral surgery at a dental community clinic for the underserved through UCSD.
As a board-certified oral surgeon, Dr. Shelton delivers exemplary care to his patients. As a nervous patient himself, Dr. Shelton always takes the time to communicate clearly with his patients and make sure they feel at ease throughout every stage of treatment at The Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Specialists of San Diego.
Dr. Sheltons path to becoming an oral and maxillofacial surgeon began in his teens, when he was given the opportunity to work in his brother-in-laws orthodontic practice. This inspired him to pursue the dentistry field. After his second year of dental school, Dr. Shelton went to Belize on a mission trip, where he performed various types of oral surgery. It was on that trip that Dr. Shelton discovered his calling to become an oral surgeon. He feels privileged to improve his patients oral health and self-confidence. Dr. Sheltons personal goal is to do whatever it takes to create a calm, caring environment for his patients.
Dr. Shelton attended the University of Louisville, earning a degree in biology in 2012. He continued at the University of Louisville to complete both dental school and medical school, graduating in 2015. He decided to pursue the OMS specialty and went on to complete a hands-on, hospital-based residency program in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Dr. Shelton completed the respected oral and maxillofacial surgery residency program at the University of Louisville in 2018, where he focused on dentoalveolar surgery, hard and soft tissue regeneration, and complex dental implant therapy. It was during Dr. Sheltons residency that he met Dr. Koshgerian, and he decided to join him in private practice.
Dr. Shelton is board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS). In order to achieve this certification status, Dr. Shelton had to undergo a rigorous peer evaluation process and demonstrate the requisite skills, knowledge, and training in the field. He has completed all of the required steps to be fully Stemodontics-certified and is proud to offer the potentially life-saving stem cell banking service to all of his patients.
Dr. Shelton has a passion for service, and it is important to him to be a part of the local community any way he can, particularly via the church. He enjoys the beautiful San Diego surroundings and takes every opportunity to enjoy the outdoors with his wife and fur babies, as well as going indoor rock climbing, taking spin classes, and trying out great restaurants.

Dr. Shelton and the staff were all so great! The surgery was quick and so was my recovery. Dr. Shelton even provided me with his number in case I had any pressing questions the weekend after my surgery. As someone with horrible dentist experiences, I've never felt so at ease at a dental establishment. Recommending him to everyone I know.

Dr. Shelton and the entire team at The Oral Surgery and Dental Implant Specialists of San Diego made every step of removing my wisdom teeth comfortable. To begin, like most people, I don't like being poked and prodded inside of my mouth. Let's face it.....no one is hoping to have dental surgery, but when you must have it, you want to go to a team that has the experience and knowledge to come up with a game plan, communicate the plan, be transparent with the fees after insurance, and also....most importantly, have the skills to execute the procedure. After learning how many years these guys spend in med school and residency to get certified, I felt very comfortable from start to finish. I was able to relax knowing that Dr. Shelton and his team would take great care of me. The procedure was painless, the anesthesia was effective, and the post procedure recovery was surprisingly quick. I did not even have to take the heavy pain meds after day 1. I am very happy to report I was under normal activity 1 day after the surgery (I did yard work,) and I would most definitely recommend this business and team of surgeons for any and all oral surgery needs. I know where to direct my friends and family when they need work done. 5 stars only because I cannot give 6! These guys are the best.

Had my wisdom teeth removed after putting it off for a long time and the team really did their utmost to make sure the process was as comfortable, transparent, and efficient as possible. There was always a clear line of communication open for me in case I ran into any questions or issues following the procedure as well. Highly recommend :)

This office has the highest professional standards. I've never felt uncomfortable here or have felt like I wasn't listen to. They hear your concerns and address them appropriately. It's also nice having 2 offices on opposite sides of town making follow ups easy wherever I find myself in SD.

Amazing work. Dr. Koshgerian removed my wisdom teeth that was laying flat and buried for many years (more than a decade I think). After removal, the pain was so low and recovery was very fast, far easier than I originally anticipated. Glad to be with people with great skills.

Had the best dental experience in years with Dr. Koshgerian! I had to get my final top two wisdom teeth out and found this place on Google with great reviews. Scheduled an initial consultation I believe on a Monday and had the surgery done that same week on Friday. The whole surgery was like 20 minutes. I had no pain and complications at all. It's been 10 days and I'm back doing my old routine - could've done sooner but I was cautious. Everyone at the Oral Surgery and Dental Implant Specialists was super friendly, professional, helpful, and made me feel at ease throughout the entire process. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for tooth extractions!

The staff and Dr. Koshgerian are professional and friendly. I felt everyone at the office was very efficient in making sure patients were taken care of. I was very comfortable going into my surgery. I also appreciated the videos that help prepare patients for upcoming appointments It's always great to have reminders and information to take out the guesswork.
