Persistent dry mouth can cause a variety of uncomfortable symptoms, including cracked lips, a sore throat, and a feeling of stickiness. Decreased saliva can also lead to frequent thirst and mouth sores.
Without sufficient saliva, normal daily activities can be more difficult. You may struggle to speak due to a hoarse voice or need to drink water frequently in order to swallow. Many individuals with dry mouth also have a decreased sense of taste.
Smoking and chewing tobacco can affect the amount of saliva you produce and exacerbate dry mouth. Regularly breathing with your mouth open can also contribute to dry mouth symptoms. Individuals with seasonal allergies or other conditions that limit their ability to breathe through their nose may suffer with frequent dry mouth as well.
Dry mouth is a common side effect of hundreds of prescription and over-the-counter medications, including antidepressants, antihistamines, and pain relievers. Some cancer therapies can also affect saliva.
Decreased salivationis also associated with health conditions. Nerve damage in the head or neck can affect salivary glands. Dry mouth can also result from diabetes, Alzheimers disease, and certain autoimmune disorders.
Discussing your symptoms and medical history with your dentist is the best way to determine if your dry mouth is serious. They can review the medications you are taking, including over-the-counter medications, and examine your mouth for signs of serious issues.
There are a variety of products available to lubricate the inside of your mouth. Your dentist may recommend a prescription or over-the-counter mouthwash designed for dry mouth, artificial saliva, or a moisturizer.

Great service. Very professional. Staff is the best and Dr Lorio is just an awesome dentist. Oh and the office is super clean(however I did not get to check out the waiting room because I did not have to wait)

When have you ever left a dentist office with the words, "I can't wait to come back." That was my experience this morning on my visit with Dr. Keith. The office is clean, well equipped, and welcoming. Dr. Keith and his staff set a priority on making visitors feel valued and important, and they achieve that goal extremely well. I felt as though I was someone special while I was there, and he and his staff made every effort to assure that I was comfortable and well attended. HIs procedures combined with his tools and equipment are all state of the art, and his skills are without question. In short, Dr. Keith is the best dentist I have known. I trust him completely as a professional and as a person. I can't wait to go back.

Dr. Lorio is wonderful professionally and personally. He has always explained his proposed procedures and does not use high pressure tactics like other Dr.s I've been to. I always feel comfortable with him and his great staff; everyone is really courteous and friendly. I would recommend Dr. Lorio any day 2021 update: Dr. Lorio and his staff continue to be wonderful and working diligently to provide great service. Awesome!!

I have been going to Dr Lorio for a number of years and highly recommend him. He cares about his patients and is a great dentist. He always takes the time to get to know you as a person. The few times that I needed additional work he always explained why. All of the staff are also great!
