Dr. Becher (Dr. Tom) is a board-certified specialist in pediatric dentistry, an accomplishment attained by fewer than 5% of all dentists, and has been engaged in the private practice of pediatric dentistry in Worthington, Ohio, since 1983. After graduation from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, he completed his specialty training at the Mott Childrens Health Center /Hurley Medical Center in central Michigan. During this 2 year residency of formal training, he received comprehensive didactic and clinical instruction in all aspects of dentistry for infants, children, and adolescents, with particular emphasis on age-appropriate orthodontics designed to maximize the combined benefits of orthodontics and natural growth and development.
Dr. Tom spent his formative years in Louisville, Kentucky, the youngest of 3 brothers and a younger sister. He developed his love for pediatric dentistry during a dental externship on a Montana Indian reservation.
It was there, in the foothills of the Rockies, that he first experienced both the responsibility and the personal satisfaction of managing the dental care of children. It was this enthusiasm and passion for pediatric dentistry that catapulted his thinking and was manifested in the creation of the Greatest Smiles on Earth.
Dr. Tom is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Orthodontic Society. He regularly participates in continuing education to augment his knowledge and to advance his skills. He was elected into the Beta Delta Fraternity, an honorary dental fraternity for oral medicine and oral pathology. He has received the Certificate of Merit from the American Society of Dentistry for Children. He was awarded a Meritorious Presentation at the Frank V. Hodges Research Forum, Hurley Medical Center.
Dina is the cheery voice and pleasant smile that greets you at our office. She is the concierge of our practice, manages the daily activities of our office, and can assist you with all your insurance, scheduling, and accounting needs.
Dina is married and the proud mother of three teenage boys. She and her husband spend their weekends travelling the Midwest and southern Canada, (rarely all together) chasing the dreams of their three hockey playing boys.
For over 10 years Annie has been the right and left hand of Dr. Tom. She is a formally trained dental assistant, a licensed dental radiographer, and performs much of our in-house lab work. She approaches each day enthusiastically and loves working with patients.
Lexi is a gentle and skilled hygienist who exhibits a genuine love and passion for working with children. She possesses an uncanny ability and the patience to relax the most anxious child during the hygiene visit.
Inspired by her childhood dental experience, Lexi passionately pursued a career in pediatric dental hygiene. She graduated with honors from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene while specializing in Child and Family Development. She also serves as a delegate to the Columbus Dental Hygiene Association and was a past President of The Ohio State University Student Chapter of the American Dental Hygiene Association.
The Greatest Smiles on Earth is a planned office environment and treatment modalities exclusively designed for the comfort and care of your child. By offering complete dental care, including orthodontics, in one central location, Dr. Tom has created a true dental home for your child, as well as a convenience for you. This unique concept nurtures the development of strong interpersonal relationships and clear communication among patients, parents, doctor, and staff.
We recommend a first comprehensive dental visit including a professional cleaning at 2 to 3 years of age. This gives us the opportunity to establish good dental habits at an early age, and correct any existing problems before they become serious and result in permanent damage.
As a parent, you can play an important role in preparing your child for this visit. It is important to demonstrate positive attitudes and encouraging language when describing the dental visit. Avoid using technical terminology unfamiliar to your child to describe dental procedures. Childrens books and videos can assist you in communication by describing the dental visit utilizing age-appropriate language and visualizations. Be positive! Describe the first visit as an adventure, much like a visit to the zoo.

All the staff was super friendly. It's was my 3yr olds first time at the dentist, and the staff did everything possible to relate to my sons age and help him feel comfortable. Will/would recommend this place to everyone looking for a pediatric dentist.

We were not aware (as well as several of his past patients we have spoken with) that a dentist, which he is, not an orthodontist, could put on braces. We had several issues with the braces he put on our daughter and after seeing an actual orthodontist, we have to start completely over with her care. We do not want any other family to go through this.

Dr. Tom is amazing with my 5 year old daughter. She had to have several cavities filled and a child root canal, and he was fantastic with her. She absolutely loves going to the dentist. Today she had her cleaning and was so happy to go! She says Dr. Tom is so funny and he loves his assistants too.

Today was our first visit to The Greatest Smiles on Earth. It was a fantastic visit! Everything I read about this practice was true! All the staff that we came in contact with were friendly and provided great service. When I asked my 6 year old son, "what did you think of your dentist appointment? and he says "it was the best dentist appointment ever!!", I think that's a win!

Dr. Becher and his entire staff make my kids feel so at-ease at a dental appointment. The first couple of visits, when they were young, the staff made sure to explain every step of the cleaning and even let the kids examine the tools up close before they went into their mouths, which really put their minds at ease. (The strawberry fluoride treatments are pretty good, too, I hear.) My oldest is now doing orthodontic work with Dr. Becher, and he's been wonderful at explaining the process to us and walking through the entire treatment plan at the outset. They set parents' minds at ease, too, I guess you could say! I have referred friends to Dr. Becher for years and would recommend the practice to anyone looking for a pediatric dentist. -- Monica D

Need I say more than the honest fact that my children (ages 3, 7, 9, 11) CHEER when I tell them that they have a dentist appointment? I am not joking. They love Dr. Tom, the silly contests, the balloon, and the fun environment. I love the gentle manner of all of the staff and hygienists. And I appreciate Dr. Tom's thorough examination and explanations to my kids and then to me. Even in the midst of pandemic times, with new policies in place, Dr. Tom and his staff have made going to the dentist an easy and even pleasant event for which this mama is grateful! We recommend Greatest Smiles to all of our friends with kids!

Dr. Tom, Lexi, Dina, and Annie are all fantastic. I have 3 kiddos and we have had bad experiences that ended in tears at other offices. Our first visit here they all made the kids feel so welcome and comfortable. All three kids look forward to coming for their visit and seeing the team!

My brothers and I came to Dr Becher as children and now I bring my kids to him. He is the very best. He is gentle and kind, and an expert at dentistry and orthodontics. His staff is warm and welcoming and they always make my kids feel comfortable. They especially love to play with the toys in the waiting room!
