Dr. Carmela grew up in Santa Clarita, California, and ventured to the midwest to receive her Doctorate of Dental Surgery. Dr. Carmela went into dentistry because it combined her passion for art, science, and helping others.

Dr. Devan Penfield grew up in Elk Point, South Dakota and received her degree from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. She completed her dental degree in Utah and has a passion for the dental industry.

Sara is our office manager who helps keep us organized as a team and enjoying our day! She has two daughters who make her life so much fun! When not at work, you can find Sara and her family at Lake Okoboji. They love spending their weekends there from Spring to Fall.

Vicki is our front desk coordinator, often the friendly voice our patients hear on the phone and the first smiling face they see when coming into the office. Vicki enjoys talking with patients and making them feel welcome. She loves that our team laughs together every day. Sometimes its because of a funny thing our kids did or might be something funny that happened at the officeits just one of the little things that makes Vicki such a pleasure to work with! Vicki has been married to her husband Randy for many years. They have a son Cade, as well as a very spoiled dog! They love to go for walks, do yard work, decorate, and shop.

Ashli is thrilled to be able to work with such a great group of people. She's probably the first person you see at our Hamilton location! She enjoys spending time with her son, husband, and her husbands daughter. Family is the most important thing to her and is a huge animal lover. She also has an adventurous side that includes skydiving!

Yvette brings to The Dentist of Siouxland at Elk Point a wealth of knowledge on all things dental insurance and front office administration. Yvette has worked in dental for several years now and also has some experience in the plasma donation industry. Yvette has 4 children that she enjoys raising and spending time with. While being from Sioux City, Yvette has had so much enjoyment brought to her already from meeting the community of Elk Point and loves the feeling that Elk Point brings. When not at work; Yvette is part of a very tight knit family and spends all of her time with her parents, her siblings, and her children.

Beatriz is fluent in Spanish and is very passionate about educating her patients to help them understand the importance of oral health. Beatriz graduated from the University of South Dakota in 2017 with a Bachelors Degree in Dental Hygiene. Her hobbies include spending time with her fur baby Kiloz and working out at a Crossfit gym where she is also a coach.

Katie graduated from Kirkwood in Cedar Rapids and loves to educate her patients on oral health. She was even able to do a dental mission trip in Jamaica to serve communities that otherwise receive no dental care! Katie is a huge animal lover and enjoys hearing about people's pets and discussing her two dogs.

Mikayla grew up in Danbury, Iowa before attending the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD, where she studied for her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene and graduated from that program in 2020. When not treating patients at the office, Mikayla enjoys spending time outdoors, caring for her dog and cat, and getting together with her family.

While Brittany is a new face at Lakeport, she's not new to the dental field! She brings many years of experience to our team and loves educating her patients about oral hygiene. She's passionate about what she does. In her spare time she loves being with her husband and family while getting to know the Siouxland community.

Sherry is an experienced and wonderful Dental Assistant. She graduated from the Dental Assistant training program at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, LA. Sherry has over 16 years of dental assisting experience. Her many patient-care and lab duties keep her busy and she can often be found working alongside Dr. Burhoop supporting patient procedures. Sherry makes each patients visit pleasant by providing the best, most gentle care possible.

Ashley is a dental assistant with a drive to provide patients with the best care. This not only is Ashley at work, but at home too! When shes not working, her two twin daughters keep her busy. She loves caring for them and living life to the fullest in whatever she is doing.

Ruth is team member always striving to be the best version of herself. She loves to learn new things that enable her to grow, which is one of the reasons she doubles as a dental assistant and front office team member! Ruth has raised two amazing children who are now grown, loves the ocean, calls her cats her furbabies and hopes to retire on the beaches of Hawaii someday!

Karlee was raised in Elk Point and you may recognize her face from back when she was on the basketball court playing for EP Jefferson! Karlee graduated from Dental Assisting School in May 2020. Karlee has spent all of her Dental Assistant career so far with us here in Elk Point and we are so grateful! Karlee enjoys attending her younger brothers sporting events, spending time with her friends, and most of all her family at their cabin.

Jessica is a Sioux City native that graduated from WITCC as a dental assistant in 2010. Jessica really enjoys meeting new people and getting to know each of our patients is very important to her. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family and she and the rest of the crew are changing lives, one smile at a time.

She is also a member of the American Academy of FacialEsthetics specializing in Botox. Dr. Carmela went into dentistry because it combined her passion for art, science, and helping others.

Carmela met her boyfriend, Bob, while she was in dental school at Creighton. Shes a big dog lover! She has a shih tzu and havanese back home. In her free time, she likes to travel, attend sporting events, and spend as much time with her family as possible!

Dr. Devan Penfield grew up in Elk Point, South Dakota before receiving her Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Most recently, she completed dental school in April 2018 at Roseman University of Health Sciences in Utah. Shes looking forward to getting to treat the communities she grew up in!

It is fulfilling to perform such a necessary service for my patients, and to do so in a comfortable and even relaxing fashion. I love it when new patients look up at me at the end of their visit and tell me how surprisingly easy it was! Prior to becoming a dentist, I earned my Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Creighton Dental School in 1994. Since then, I have continued my education through professional courses, seminars, and study groups. I take my continuing education very seriously because it keeps me on the cutting edge of the latest advances, materials, and techniques in the ever-changing dental field. My studies also renew my passion for great dentistry, and I am always looking for proven technology to implement into our practice, ensuring my patients always receive the best care available.

I am here for my patients. Being a dentist means serving the people and families in our community, helping them attain and retain healthy, beautiful smiles for life. When a patient has an emergency situation, I am happy to be there for them and relieve pain or discomfort. If a patient comes in wanting a brighter smile, I enjoy helping them attain that. The looks and comments of gratitude I receive from the community make me realize how essential it is to treat everyone with the level of respect and compassion that they deserve.

My team and I take our jobs incredibly seriously, but we also love having fun! After all, dentistry is all about smiles, and we want each patient to realize that our office is a great place to be. My team and I have been working together for many years, and we enjoy building a practice where anyone can feel at home. I grew up in York, Nebraska, and have been a part of the Sioux City community since 1996. My lovely wife, Julie, and I have two daughters named Abigail and Isabella. When I am not in the office, I enjoy doing anything outdoors, especially boating, water skiing or scuba diving. Of course, I always love spending time with my wonderful family!

While in dental school, I had the unique privilege of serving three months in the Dominican Republic, providing dental care to the underserved in a remote village. In 2002, I also participated in a medical/dental mission trip on the Amazon River in Brazil, traveling by boat to remote places and giving dental care. In the winter of 2018, I served others in Phoenix, Arizona, placing implants on veterans and others who could not have otherwise afforded it.

In September of 2018, I was awarded Fellowship and Diplomate status with the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI). That achievement was earned through education, research, and actual clinical experience and is the highest honor that can be given to a dental professional involved in oral implantology.
