Your childs first visit to the doctor typically includes an x-ray that allows the doctor to view the structure of the jaw, the position of any teeth that have not yet erupted, malformed roots, and tooth decay.
The initial visit also involves getting your childs medical history. When you share your childs medical history with the doctor, be sure to provide complete, up-to-date information on his health. Inform the dentist if your child has experienced recent hospitalization or surgery, or if he has recently been ill. Also tell the doctor the names, doses, and frequency of any medications your child is taking whether prescription or over-the-counter products and the name of your childs physician. Inform the doctor of any changes in your childs health or medications. It is also important to bring up any fears your child may have about dental treatment. The information collected in your first visit will help the doctor select the safest and most effective method of treatment for your child.

At each visit, the doctor also checks old fillings and restorations because constant pressure from chewing, grinding, or clenching can cause them to wear away, chip, or crack.
Dr. Jocelyn Yu was born and raised in the Philippines. She moved to Canada, then to the United States with her family in 1982. Dr. Yu completed her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry in 1990 at the University of California, Davis and in 1993, she received her Doctor of Dental Surgery at the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco. Dr. Yu completed further training in Pediatric Dentistry at the Texas A & M College of Dentistry in Dallas in 2000. She is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Yu obtained a scholarship through the US Army while in dental school. After graduation, she served in active duty as a dental officer with the US Army Dental Corps from 1993 through 2003. In 2005 Dr. Yu reactivated in the US Army Reserves and served in various leadership roles, including a command position for a deployable dental company. Dr. Yu retired after 26 years of service. She received numerous awards during her time in the military.
As a Pediatric Dentist and a mother, Dr. Yu is very committed in childrens oral health. Her philosophy is to provide dental care to children in the same way she would her own; with compassion and patience and held to the highest standards as possible. Dr. Yu enjoys the practice of Pediatric Dentistry. She loves watching her young patients develop good oral habits and over time, grow into healthy, confident, smiling teens and adults.

We've been going to Dr Yu for about 13 years. My kiddos feel comfortable with her and she is very thorough in explaining things. She genuinely cares for the kids and it shows in her conversation and gentleness with each visit.

Dr Yu and all of the staff have always been very gentle, patient, and so sweet with my children, and they provide excellent, competent dental care. They are willing to work with me and let me have a voice in my children's care. We've been going to Dr Yu for 9 years and love her! No office can shine without great support staff; Kelly, who manages the front desk, is incredibly organized and has always been the first friendly face to greet us when we arrive. Highly recommend this office for pediatric dental care.

The whole staff of elm colony pediatric dentistry Are so wonderful and superb. They always make sure that my kids feel comfortable with any procedure they have and present all the necessary treatment needed with corresponding Estimates to pay base on our insurance. Definitely can't trade dr yu and her staff with anyone else. Gentle hands, great dental clinic!

I recently took my 3-month old here to have his tongue tie clipped. Each of the staff members was so kind to us. Dr. Yu did an excellent job with the procedure and was so skilled and gentle with my newborn. Kelly at the front desk was so sweet and efficient with scheduling. They got us in right away. We didn't have any wait time at either of our appointments. I would definitely recommend this office and staff.

The staff was very welcoming and comforting to my daughter and I. I explained that she usually has fear of going to the dentist but they were able to get her to relax and have a pleasant visit. They told her and myself what they were doing and why. I would highly recommend.

We have been coming here for years ever since my kids were little babies Dr. Yu ,Rahel and Kelly been taken care of us for years. One thing that I really like about this dentistry is I don't remember waiting in the waiting area. We I arrived at the dental office and after 5 minutes we go straight to see the doctor.

We switched to Dr. Yu a couple of years ago. My kids love her, she talks to them and not at them. They don't fret going to the dentist like they did before we started going to her. My son has a couple of shark teeth (what we call them (where the grown up tooth is coming in behind the baby)). She suggested it coming out naturally (hopefully it will) instead of making an appointment to pull it out in the office (will happen if needed but he is working on getting it out) right then and there. We love everyone there in her office.
