Dr. Lerners odyssey toward holistic dentistry began before he even thought of becoming a dentist. As a child, he had many cavities that resulted in repair with mercury silver fillings. It seemed that at every checkup, there were more mercury silver fillings to be placed. Then, as many kids do, Dr. Lerner broke a tooth in an accident and it had to be removed. The orthodontist decided to close the space by bringing his teeth all the way over to the front from the right to the left. His teeth ended up looking straight but his jaw was crooked.
Dr. Lerner later learned that his crooked jaw led to a variety of problems including head and neck aches. After graduating from dental school, Dr. Lerner began TMJ treatment. When the treatment finally brought relief, Dr. Lerner began his journey toward understanding the mouth-body connection in earnest and soon learned that the bite can affect much more than your mouth.
Dr. Lerner gained further insight in the form of back pain due to shoveling too much snow without a proper shovel. The excruciating pain led to a quest for a cure a quest that did not end until he met a practitioner of Applied Kinesiology and Sacral-Occipital Technique. This practitioner gave him relief with his very first treatment. These treatments helped Dr. Lerner so much that he decided to begin his training in Holistic Dentistry. He soon became a practitioner of Applied Kinesiology and Sacral-Occipital Techniques.
Although his back was feeling much better, Dr. Lerner still needed relief from lingering complications, which drove him to search for more answers. He found those answers in the office of a dentist trained in nutrition and acupuncture therapy. During a thorough analysis, this dentist discovered that Dr. David Lerners health issues and lack of energy were a result of childhood mercury silver fillings. Once the fillings were removed, Dr. Lerner had much more energy and he felt he was finally moving toward ideal health.
From that point on, Dr. Lerner worked with many health practitioners in many health fields to improve his own health, increase his understanding of the mouth-body connection, and expand his knowledge to better treat his patients.
This thirst for knowledge has stayed with Dr. Lerner over the years and has resulted in ever-expanding expertise in dentistry and the mouth-body connection. Dr. Lerner is now known as an authority on holistic dental health care. Patients come from all over Putnam County, Westchester County, and beyond (even from Hawaii!) to seek his holistic dental care.
Marisa oversees all Office Operations and has been involved in dentistry for the past 40+ years. She grew up in the dental field, working for her father (a dentist) during her summer breaks from school. Marisa has been an assistant, receptionist, bookkeeper, and office manager. She graduated from Westchester Community College as a Certified Respiratory Therapist and worked at WCMC for 15 years.
Marisa and Dr. Lerner have been married for 36 years and have a daughter, Donielle. Marisas hobbies include arts and crafts, gardening, and baking. Her love of nature is evident in the decor of the office. Her other love is spending time with family and friends.
Erica is our Dental Receptionist and joined our practice in September 2015. Erica has seven years of experience as a dental assistant and receptionist. Working in a holistic practice has been very rewarding and educational for her. She also enjoys attending continuing education courses with staff members.
Donielle is our Administrative and Marketing Manager and joined our practice in early 2018. Prior to working at the office, Donielle worked in New York City in the Luxury Fashion Industry. She brings a fresh perspective to the practice and is eager to make a contribution.
Donielle is Marisa and Dr. Lerners daughter and has worked in various areas of the office, including assisting, reception, and marketing since she was 15 years old. In her free time, she enjoys travel, cooking, creating new memories with family and of courseall things fashion!
Maria is our Clinical Assistant. She was born in Ecuador and moved to New York with her family in 1999. Having over 13 years of experience as a dental assistant and office manager, she has completed several seminars to keep up to date with all the new innovative dental techniques. Maria is very proud to work alongside Dr. Lerner and his knowledge in the field of holistic dentistry he shares with his patients. She enjoys educating patients and helping them to attain a more pleasant and enjoyable dental experience. She loves being a part of the team at the Center for Holistic Dentistry.
Maria married her husband Daniel in 2003 and by 2005 they welcomed their first son David, and their second son Devin joined them in 2010. Outside of the office she enjoys spending time with her family, she loves to travel, do outdoor activities and spend time at the beach.
Nichole is our Dental Assistant, she works along with Maria in assisting Dr. Lerner to make our patients have a wonderful experience. Nichole joined our office in 2014 and has been in dentistry for eight years now. She loves working with patients making them feel comfortable. She is kind, caring and compassionate in providing the care our patients need. Working with Dr. Lerner and staff has been a great opportunity for her in developing different techniques, and living a holistic lifestyle.
An interesting fact about Nichole is that she comes from a family with two sets of twins. Though not identical she and her sister are often mistaken for one another. Aside from working Nichole enjoys spending time with family, being outdoors, and riding her motorcycle.

I love how they check in with my body, my energy system, to assist in determining what of the many ways of care they deliver. Got rug pulled out from me with demand for 60% jump on procedure price on arrival at office for procedure with no previous notice of price spike and no willingness to negotiate. Good people for the most part, as I'd been a customer for years. Oof.

I am so grateful to have found Dr. Lerner and his team. Dr. Lerner and staff are extremely knowledgeable and experienced. For each procedure, Dr Lerner took the time to thoroughly explain what was going on in my mouth, how the body is affected and what his approach was. The follow up care is invaluable. Staff reviewed post care procedures before leaving the office and checked in on me on following days to make sure I was healing properly and feeling well. Everyone in the office is compassionate, patient and nurturing. I'm very thankful for their honesty and wholesome work. I highly recommend The Center for Holistic Dentistry for anyone who is seeking a biological dentist.

I'm submitting this review as a follow up on the quality of work that was done and how it's held up. I saw Dr Lerner in 2016. I had my amalgam fillings removed and had a filling replaced that I had between my front two teeth. Now the amalgam remediation was done well. I would give 5 stars for that process. All the precautions in place and they were very careful and I had a good experience in the office. I moved to the west coast in 2017, and in 2018 one of the fillings fell out so I couldn't go back to Dr lerner to fix the problem. Needless to say, I was very irritated, but thought oh well, these things happen sometimes and I'm sure had I still been in NY, they would have fixed the problem. Well, about 9 months ago, so a little over 4 years later, I started having some irritated teeth when I'd eat something sweet, I thought maybe I had cavities, I went to a new dentist, full x-rays and exam, no cavities, but I had several loose fillings. These fillings failed after only 4 years. So it wasn't just an issue with just one, it was almost all of them. For that reason alone, I'd give 2 stars. So it wasn't just a one tooth fluke. All of them. Now the front fillings that I had done, the original was barely noticeable, on the backside, but had some slight staining starting between my teeth that bothered me so I wanted to fix it. I didn't actually see my teeth until I got home. The filling was now twice the size and the material used wasn't even close to my tooth color. It looked terrible and now I was trying to whiten my teeth to match but nothing helped. The filling wasn't smooth or polished properly as Floss constantly catches. I was frustrated right away but didn't know what to expect as I figured, they're the pros, so that's just as good as it'll get. They were aware that the cosmetics of the filling were why I was trying to fix it in the first place. But they made it worse for me. I've been self conscious of my smile for years because of it. And only recently learned that there are materials to blend and make the area look like my tooth instead of a stark white filled space. So my word of advice is, especially if you need a cosmetic dentist, look elsewhere. Because it's not their specialty. 1 star for that experience right off the bat. Basically all the work I had done by Dr Lerner, I've had redone this year because the fillings failed or in the case of my front teeth, I can't stand being so self conscious of my smile anymore. As one can imagine, this is very frustrating. My in office experience was good. But unfortunately, quality work wasn't delivered for me.

The care is not really any better than a regular dentist. The fees are exorbitant and they do not accurately provide you with the true cost of the procedures, and what your insurance will pay. Be careful or you will pay WAY TOO MUCH money for this dentist. Not worth it.....I found it to be a rip off.

It was very difficult for me to make the decision to replace my two front teeth caps that had metal and mercury in them. I am a Fench horn player and my two front teeth are an integral part of my ability to perform. Today went so well -- I had no idea how easy it was going to be --- thanks to Doc Lerner and his staff -- wow. No more harmful metal in my mouth and looking forward to my permanents being ready in a few weeks. In the meantime back to playing my horn! Thanks and gratitude to all at the Center for H.D.!!

Great first experience! Erica & Dr. Lerner were lovely, informative and thorough. Dr. Lerner explained the course of action that will start with correcting my bite, which may end up helping some debilitating joint pain I've been experiencing and certain sleep issues. Looking forward to feeling better and having a more efficient bite.

I was very skeptical to have a tooth implant but Dr LERNER and his assistant ,Nicole, made it so easy for me . They are very professional and explain everything as the procedure goes along. Extremely happy with how my tooth came out. I highly recommend him.

I was delighted to find the holistic practice on-line as I am a recent transplant to Westchester. I was most grateful to receive an appointment right away for my minor cosmetic emergency with the need to reinstall a cap for a front tooth. I was very pleased with the warm and friendly atmosphere and the skilled handling of replacement. I am looking forward to my future appointment.

Dr Lerner is very caring and careful so are his staff. Only dentist in the area smart certified for mercury silver filling removal. After my experience the only place I'd go! Especially if you want your dental care to add to your overall well-being not be a detriment to it.
