Dr. David Blende is a graduate of the University of Southern California (USC) with more than 30 years experience providing comprehensive dental care in both hospitals and private practices in Switzerland, Beverly Hills and San Francisco. He developed a reputation for his aesthetic dentistry as well as his singular dedication to special needs patients. Not only does Dr. Blende have the technical skills necessary to address the challenges of serving this population, but he has had the commitment needed to continually create new services for these underserved populations. In the early 1980s, he became one of a pioneering group of dentists to do full-mouth rehabilitation using general anesthesia in a hospital setting. At the time, he was an early member of the Special Care Dentistry Association (SCDA). In the mid-2000s, he became one of the few dentists to service homebound patients by performing house calls. Dr. Blende has also served as the Chairman of the California Dental Associations Council on Scientific Affairs and Research as well as the President of the French Foundation for Medical Research and Education. He is chief of the Dental Division at two major San Francisco hospitals and on staff at six additional Bay Area hospitals.

When we asked Dr. Blende what it was like being among the first dentists to do dentistry in a hospital setting and now in the home, he says, My mentors were true pioneers and I hope I am fulfilling their challenge to expand dental care to the underserved. Im especially grateful that we have found a way, through house calls, to bring that service even closer to those in need.
