At the University of Iowa, she was president of the pre-dental club while earning her Bachelors in Biology. She attended dental school at theUniversity of Michiganand received a full scholarship from the US Navy. She traveled the world as the only dentist aboard the USS Carter Hall (LSD-50), where she was responsible for the dental health of thousands of sailors and Marines.
Dr. Jane has served on the SureSmile Clinical Advisory Board since 2006 and is considered an expert in SureSmile and Lingual technology. She frequently attends conferences and seminars to further her education.

Dr. Taut was born in Romania (he even still speaks some Romanian!) and moved to the United States at age nine. As a teenager he had braces and it provided him with the confidence to pursue lifes challenges.
He knew he wanted to do something in the medical field, but it wasnt until his third year of dental school at the University of Michigan where he found his true calling. He noticed one of his shy, young patients gaining confidence as he underwent orthodontic treatment, and it was at this moment in his life he was convinced he wanted to pursue orthodontics to create healthy, beautiful smiles.
Dr. Taut received his Master of Science in Orthodontics from Marquette University, and he has been heavily involved in dental research. He is a published author that has presented at numerous national and international conferences, and he fondly calls himself a big science nerd.
Outside of the office, he and his wife Shannon, a pediatrician, enjoy traveling and cooking new foods. He loves staying active by exercising and playing tennis or basketball. Because of all of his time spent studying at the University of Michigan he is also an avid Michigan sports supporter!
Phase two is all about braces, making sure each tooth is in the position it needs in order to create the best smile for your child. This typically involves upper and lower braces, and may sometimes begin while your child is finishing up their first phase.
This phase is typically started once your child has all of their permanent teeth. Treatment time with braces is dependent on each individual case, and when the braces come off we create retainers to ensure your child maintains their smile for life.
If your child does not need a first phase of treatment, this first visit is used to determine when would be the ideal time to begin orthodontic treatment. Until the time for braces comes we will continue to monitor your child for free to ensure the healthiest smile possible.

Horrible service. My wife's retainer started to deteriorate and stain the inside of her mouth. They refuse to make my wife a new retainer. We've presented this issue to them on multiple occasions, but they refuse to fix the problem or refund us. They're always rude at every appointment too.

Some of the staff in this place are the single rudest human beings alive. My child has mental illness that makes teeth brushing difficult for him sometimes. He brushes, attends the dentist for cleanings regularly and has never had a cavity. They've made more than one snide remark about his parents not making him brush, or good moms make thier kids brush. Obviously, he brushes his teeth or he would be a lot worse off. It's just the judgmental, rude manner and tone that some of the staff speak to people. No consideration that even getting the braces in the first place were difficult. It's even harder when the kid doesn't want to go back and constantly feels judged and looked down upon. Life is hard enough for kids. Don't take your children here if they have any neurodivergent diagnosis and already are having struggles with self care or medical issues. You'll be judged. Your kid will be judged and made to feel awful. It's a shame because there are some really nice people working here as well, but all it takes is one off-hand comment. Like I wanted to hand over 7 thousand dollars for braces and purposefully throw that away. Go somewhere else if your kid needs compassion now and again.

The staff were very welcoming and super sweet. My son was treated very well, made to feel welcome and comfortable, and is looking forward to his next visit. Mindy is funny, cheerful , and overall amazing. I would 10/10 refer someone to The Big Smile Orthodontist's office.

Getting braces as an adult has been a massive step for me! I was super nervous about the process, but the Big Smile team has been outstanding. They provided tons of information about what to expect and answered any questions I had. Everyone is so friendly and very helpful. I have had two broken wires so far, and each time, the lovely individuals at the front desk have fit me in right away to have them fixed. They have exceeded my expectations and have made this process much more pleasant. I appreciate them all and look forward to continuing my treatment :). Thank you!!

Dr Jane is awesome, no doubt about it. She's patient with parents and great with the kids. My son is nervous about doctors appointments in general, and had a very very bad experience with another ortho in Novi, so we switched to Big Smile. Dr Jane was able to work with him, and has been going great. We're moving onto phase 2 treatment with full braces now, and my son is happy to go along with it. Dr Jane is "out of network" for me, so it's pricey - but I'll tell you it's been worth every penny so far.

Great care, great Doctors, great staff! Very happy with my results, and I was 64 when I had my braces go on. Just had them taken off, and so happy with my results!!! Highly recommend this practice for orthodontics!!!

Yes I had an awful experience before I could even receive new treatment... I had braces previously from another orthodontist who went out of business due to Covid out of state so I came here and had them removed about a year ago, and that visit went smooth however I did not wear my retainers so my teeth shifted and I was seeking new treatment so I figured I'd go back to where I had them removed I called and made an appointment however in the mist my grandfather passed away & I never got a reminder of the appointment my mind was so wrapped up in what was going on I called in and said hello I think I have appointment today or tomorrow she said the appointment was yesterday I said I'm sorry I missed my appointment can I reschedule And after telling them what happened she said she was sorry to hear that and she tried to make me appointment and then after checking for a new date she said no the doctor left a note to never let me make an appointment again... I will never recommend this place how can you kick someone when they're down and mind boggled over a death in the family because someone simply made a mistake and Missed their appointment! Things happen This is just a sign I should've listen to the other bad reviews I will never ever recommend this place

I took my daughter here for a consultation and was beyond happy with everything. They take extra steps to make all their patients and potential patients feel very welcomed. My daughters name was on the welcome board and she even got a little gift bag upon arrival. The staff were all very kind and Dr Jane explained everything so even my 9 y.o. could understand. Would highly recommend Big Smile Orthodontics to anyone.

I got braces from here about 12 years ago. At the time they were fantastic. I recently lost my retainers, and when I called to order a replacement they refused to arrange that for me without a "consultation." I said no thanks. I knew this would end up in them trying to pursuade me to spend money I don't need to spend. They returned with a consultation visit of $80.00. This is necessary to get a pair of retainers. When I originally received my retainers over a decade ago, I was told in the event of needing a replacement to just call and request one. Now they won't allow me access to it without trying to upsell me. This is obviously the case. My teeth are fine. I do not need to consult an orthodontist. I would personally stay away. This was extremely rude. I would have purchased the retainers for the $300.00. Now you won't get my money or any future business. Absolutely disgusted at how rude this was. I will just find my lost retainer in my home somewhere, or utilize a cheaper company that does replacement molds.
