The team at Thanasas Family Dental Care believe in the importance of preventative care. We focus on keeping patients in good oral health so that they can live a full, healthy, and enjoyable life that is free from oral pain. This starts by educating our patients on what they can do to stay healthy at home. In our family dentist office we recommend that patients eat a healthy diet that consists of green leafy vegetables, lean protein, nuts, dairy products, and crunchy fruits and veggies. Eating these foods along with drinking water can help to keep teeth healthy and make them stronger. By simultaneously reducing sugar intake, patients can also reduce their risk of cavities.

It is also important to brush and floss throughout the day. Instead of waiting for bedtime to brush teeth, carry a small toothbrush and use it after meals and snacks. This makes it possible to remove sugar and bacteria from the teeth and gums before it has the opportunity to turn into acid that can attack the teeth. This preventative step can greatly reduce a persons' risk of getting a cavity or gum disease. We understand the importance of taking these steps at home and will spend the time necessary to educate and inform patients so that they can stay healthy overall. Education, after all, is essential for living a long and healthy life.

Understanding the importance of these regular dental exams, the staff at Thanasas Family Dental Care work to make each patient extremely comfortable. This includes being welcoming and kind while performing dental treatments in a way that is painless and relaxing. Patients visit our dentist office because they trust us to do just that take care of their teeth and gums, gently. The majority of our patients are local and come from the greater Troy area, we also see patients that are looking for gentle dental care.

Seniors, on the other hand, often struggle with gum disease and oral infections. As people age, their teeth can become weaker and infected more easily. Bone loss is incredibly common with seniors and by conducting regular dental exams, the team at Thanasas Family Dental Care can help seniors to have strong teeth and reduce the risk of them falling out. Since over seventy percent of U.S. adults suffer from tooth loss, preventative care is important.

A. Primary, or 'baby,' teeth are important for many reasons. Not only do they help children speak clearly and chew naturally, they also aid in forming a path that permanent teeth can follow when they are ready to come in.

A. First, rinse the irritated area with warm salt water and place a cold compress on the face if it is swollen. Give the child acetaminophen for any pain, rather than placing aspirin on the teeth or gums. Finally, see a dentist as soon as possible.

A. Sealants work by filling in the crevasses on the chewing surfaces of the teeth. This shuts out food particles that could get caught in the teeth, causing cavities. The application is fast and comfortable and can effectively protect teeth for many years.

A. Have your family dentist evaluate the fluoride level of your child's primary source of drinking water. If your child is not getting enough fluoride internally through water (especially if the fluoride level is deficient or if your child drinks bottled water without fluoride), then we may prescribe fluoride supplements.

A. Soft plastic mouthguards can be used to protect teeth, lips, cheeks and gums from sport related injuries. A custom-fitted mouthguard will protect your teeth from injuries and even provide protection from severe injuries to the head.

A. There is very little risk in dental X-rays. Family dentists are especially careful to limit the amount of radiation to which you and your family are exposed. Lead aprons and high-speed film are used to ensure safety and minimize the amount of radiation. Digital x-rays provide an even greater level of protection by using up to 90 percent less radiation.

Family dentist perform a range of services, and each family dentist has their own unique list of procedures that they offer. However, there are procedures that are more common, and understanding the types of treatment you can receive from a family dentist can help individuals decide when it is necessary to undergo a visit.Family dentists

A family dentist watches over the oral health of every member of your family. They are there for babies when their teeth start to grow. A family dentist makes sure that the teeth of children remain healthy through growth spurts, braces and even the odd mishap. The dentist will also meet the oral health needs

Talk to a family dentist, and they will tell you sugar is one of the most damaging things a child's teeth can be exposed to. Sugar is an acidic substance with a sticky constituency that clings on to teeth and eats away at the enamel. Sugar also serves as a food source for oral bacteria

A typical day in the average American household includes many things: soccer games, determining what to cook (or pick up) for lunch or dinner, carpools, dance lessons, after-school events, school board conferences, and the list goes on.It's remarkable how we manage to be everywhere at once and not explode from the pressure. On top of

If you are looking into orthodontics options for your teen, it is important to consider Invisalign vs. traditional braces for teens. You should also know what both solutions look like on a daily basis. Essentially, any orthodontic solution will move teeth by applying pressure. This pressure has to be placed on the right teeth at the right time so that gradually, they move into position. Both solutions do an excellent job. At the end of the day it really comes down to lifestyle, convenience, and what your teen will feel confident wearing.

When it comes to appearance, nothing beats Invisalign. Keep this in mind when comparing Invisalign vs. traditional braces for teens. The aligners are clear, so hardly anyone will notice that they are wearing them. The biggest aesthetic benefit is that as their teeth begin to move, their smile will look better. Being able to see an improvement quickly will help your teen to feel encouraged to keep up with the process, knowing that their smile will only get more and more attractive.

In our Troy dental office, one of the biggest concerns we hear from teens (especially the hungry ones) is that wearing orthodontics will impact their daily diet. We know that most of our younger patients are fairly particular in what they eat and at the very least, have multiple favorite foods. If things like pizza, hamburgers, sandwiches and popcorn are on their 'must have' list, than Invisalign is a far better option than braces. When wearing traditional metal braces, teens have to eat carefully. You cannot simply bite into a burger or sandwich and if you do, you will have a ton of food stuck in between your teeth. For teens, and adults, this can be completely embarrassing. Many teens change what they eat while wearing braces while others simply don 't eat in public. Both can be inconvenient and silly when Invisalign provides a better way. Since the Invisalign aligners are designed to come out while eating, your teen can eat whatever they want without worrying about how they look or their orthodontics becoming damaged. This means that life can continue on like normal, without the annoying adjustments that teens don 't enjoy.

Another factor to compare when evaluating Invisalign vs. traditional braces for teens is oral hygiene. This is a big deal because, as a dentist, we do not want any of our patients to suffer from decay and as a parent, you do not want your child to end up with a bunch of cavities. At Thanasas Family Dental Care, our solution is to provide teens with Invisalign instead of braces. When wearing braces, the risk for decay naturally goes up because it is harder to keep teeth clean. With Invisalign, the aligners come out while brushing so their oral hygiene routine can remain virtually the same. The only slight difference is that the aligners need to be brushed with warm water and a soft toothbrush before being put back in. We can also recommend a special cleaning solution but otherwise, the process is the same as always and completely easy. If your teen gets braces instead, they will need to use a special flossing tool and a brush that looks like a tree to get the food particles and plaque off of the area around the brackets. This has to be repeated for every tooth so you can imagine how much longer it will take.

Don't forget school activities when comparing Invisalign vs. traditional braces for teens. At Thanasas Family Dental Care, we have found that the majority of our patients do more than simply go to school. They are in the band, choir, play sports, act in the school play, etc. In other words they are busy. Braces can interfere with this because they can be uncomfortable and make it difficult to play an instrument. They can also create a hazard when playing high-impact sports. Fortunately, Invisalign does not. The aligners can be removed during any of these activities so that your teen does not have to sacrifice anything to straighten their teeth. They will be far happier with the process as a result. If you are unsure about a specific activity and how Invisalign could impact it, visit our Troy, MI dental office to speak with Dr. Thanasas.

Once your teen is done wearing Invisalign or traditional braces they will need to wear a retainer. It is normal and few, if any, can escape this reality. The reason is simple. Teeth can revert back to their old position, if only slightly. Wearing a retainer at night, can help to keep teeth in the correct and improved position. The good news is that your teen will be so used to wearing their aligners, a retainer will not seem like a big deal. In our Troy dental office, we can explain the various options for retainers but typically recommend a clear, full retainer that closely resembles the aligners they are accustomed to.

Call our Troy, Michigan dental office at 248-260-2878 to discuss this solution in further detail. At Thanasas Family Dental Care, we can answer your questions and help your teen to make an informed decision regarding their orthodontics treatment. We are located in the Troy area and look forward to meeting you to discuss Invisalign Teen.

For centuries, people have used dentures to replace missing teeth. The fact that they are still in use today speaks to how practical and effective they can be. Dentures are a popular option for those who are missing multiple teeth and do not have the desire or the ability to undergo extensive dental work. Developments

If you have sleep apnea, it might at first seem like more of a nuisance for your partner than for you, especially if your primary symptom is snoring. Is it a good idea to find a solution that merely minimizes the effects on your sleeping partner such as noise-canceling earbuds to mask the sound

When a tooth root becomes infected by bacteria, a root canal treatment may be recommended to remove the infected tooth tissue. While some may fear this procedure, the truth is there is more to worry about in the consequences of not receiving a necessary root canal than of getting one in the first place. Failing

I drive 30 minutes to come to this dentist because I have trust issues and other dentists always find seemingly unnecessary projects in my mouth. Dr. Thanasas is honest, does solid work, doesn't try to upsell you, and will say how long I can put off an issue. The office staff are competent, and the entire interior was completely remodeled, it is clean and modern on the inside. The hygienists are so kind, they let me hold my baby while getting cleanings so he doesn't fuss. I wish I had a photo of the beautiful space inside, but here is a pic of the outside.

Without a doubt, Dr. Thanasas is the one of the best dentists in the Troy/Rochester Hills area. My family and I have been with him for over a decade. He takes the time to review our x-rays with us and explain any needed treatments. He typically does not use mercury fillings which is a plus cosmetically. When we need a referral, his office staff, Michelle and Melanie will call the dental specialist and make an appointment within a few days. You will get a personal reminder call before all your appointments. Brandi, our dental hygienist, is very thorough and detailed in her cleanings and exam. His office was renovated a few years ago and is extremely modern and clean. There is cable TV in the exam rooms and WiFi Internet available. I would highly recommend him for anybody looking for a new dentist. You will be very impressed with the quality of care and professionalism of the office staff.

Great dentist and great office. The service is well organized. They are on time every single time I go for an appointment. There was only one time I was asked to reschedule because some dental assistants called in sick. They were very accommodating to my schedule when that happened. The office is very clean also. They have remodeled the place and kept up all maintenance as far as I can tell. It's nice to have the TV on with HGTV or kids programs when I go. Dr. Thanasas works very efficiently as to not keep you in the chair longer than he needs to.

Called them today with pain in my tooth. They got me right in, even though the doctor had to turn around and come back to work. Did some emergency surgery to get me through the next few days. They took great care of me. Thanks!

Dr. Thanasas is the man! I never write reviews but this place deserves one for sure. The office is always spotless, the staff is super friendly and the equipment looks like it's from the future! There are flat screen tv's in every room instead of a picture of an old sail boat. If you're looking for a new dentist I highly recommend him!
