Originally from Lubbock, Dr. Thames has been practicing orthodontics in Carrollton since 1983 and is board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics. His own experience in orthodontics as a teen led him to a passion for substantially changing peoples self esteem through a great smile.
Dr. Thames attended Texas Tech University, earned a bachelors degree in chemistry and graduated with honors in only three years. He then entered Baylor College of Dentistry earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery. He continued his training at the Baylor Orthodontic department where he received his Master of Science in Dentistry. During his schooling, he won the American Association of Orthodontics Senior Dental Student Award. His extensive studies produced an article on Computerized Growth Prediction which was published in the American Journal of Orthodontics.
Striving for the best possible smile in each patient, Dr. Thames thoroughly explains options for each patients individual needs. This builds a rapport patients respect and remember, as he has begun treating former patients children, as well! Fellow dentists share the same respect for him as he was voted 2009-2013Super Dentist by his peers in Texas Monthly when asked this question, If you needed care, who would you choose?
As technology advances, Dr. Thames goal is to progress as necessary by attending continuing education courses. Currently, he is an Invisalign Certified Specialist and uses state-of-the-art digital technology.
From a young age, Dr. Patenaudes parents instilled values of hard work and treating people the way he would himself or his family. He was also taught the importance of giving back however he could. Growing up with stories about his late grandfather, a surgeon who served in Korea and returning to serve his small town in all ways he could. Dr. Patenaudes view of patient care is simple: Would I make the same decisions if it was my daughter or family member? There is no formula in orthodontics, only an individualized, thoughtful approach to each case.
Dr. Patenaude began his education at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute studying chemical engineering. Here he won the Erik Jonsson Award for graduating as the valedictorian across all majors. Following his engineering degree, he went on to the Harvard School of Dental Medicine to complete his dental degree. Here he served nationally as a leader of the American Student Dental Association advocating for maintaining a high quality standard of care. While at Harvard, pursuit in the specialty of orthodontics became the clear path. Being able to transform smiles and lives of patients while as he puts it playing physics and art all day.
After Harvard, Dr. Patenaude joined the Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics residency at Texas A&M/ Baylor College of Dentistry to specialize. Here he received his masters of science studying accelerated tooth movement in orthodontics and resulting tooth vitality. While attending he also completed the Tweed Study Course and has since become an instructor for the Charles H Tweed International Foundation. This is a group dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in orthodontic diagnosis and treatment. Believing in this Dr. Patenaude is certified in multiple orthodontic systems such as invisalign and uses state-of-the-art digital technology.
A never content and always better tomorrow mindset pushes Dr. Patenaude to continue to advance his knowledge through continuing education. As technology advances he believes it is important to stay up to date to ensure the best care for his patients. This includes being able to discern meaningful advancements from marketing. Additionally he completed his American Board of Orthodontics exam to become a board certified orthodontic specialist. This couples with his belief that excellence in orthodontics begins with the best treatment planning for the patient. As he puts it At the end of the day we are a team in orthodontics; it is not an overnight journey. Everyone is unique, and talking through multiple options during consults is the only way to truly inform, and more importantly, make the best decision for each and every patient. Dr. Patenaude and his practice are an easy 5 stars, I couldn't recommend them more. From the ease of scheduling to the bedside manner while in the chair, everyone at this practice is so kind and professional. I came hoping to have crowding of my upper and lower teeth resolved and Dr. Patenaude did an amazing job- I couldn't be happier with my results. Highly recommend!

My daughter just finished her course of Invisalign. Great team! Both, Dr Thames & Dr Patenaude are extremely professional and always make sure our questions are answered. The staff is courteous and welcoming. Reasonable pricing for the treatment. Good experience. Highly recommend!

My daughter and I Love every single staff here!! My daughter was seen by Dr. Thames when she was younger and they were all so amazing that about 10 years later I go there myself. Everyone are so kind/ generous, thorough, and very friendly!! Thank you all for making our experience an amazing one and thank you for the big difference in the before and after in our smile!!

Had an amazing experience with this office. I came for Invisalign and the office was very comfortable and the staff was extremely friendly. Dr. Patenaude acknowledged my concerns and made me feel like a part of the planning process. About a week after getting my initial evaluation I damaged my front teeth on a Saturday afternoon and had an event the following day. After sending Dr. Patenaude a picture of the damaged front teeth he offered to come into to the office on Sunday, early morning before church to take care of the broken teeth. He said that if I was going to see him for my Invisalign, a specialist (orthodontist) that understood all the details of straightening my teeth, the bite, and balancing them on my face for the repairs of the front teeth; similarly, I would need to see one that specialized in tooth repairs: my normal dentist. Dr. Patenaude and his team care about their patients and it's evident in the office culture. He is a board-certified orthodontist and I'm thankful I chose this office for my new smile. Truly couldn't recommend Dr. Patenaude and his team enough. 6 Stars - The epitome of above and beyond.

Both of my kids are patients here and we are very impressed with the results but even more so by the care, patience and professionalism of the staff. My daughter was young and did not want the braces, but when they were removed she was so happy she told me "I'm so glad we did this!" My son did the Invisalign approach and was just as happy. As a true 'germophobe' I was personally very impressed by their medical hygiene. The scheduling is flexible and easy, even when we had to repeatedly reschedule around school. I cannot imagine recommending any other orthodontist practice. Dr. Thames & Co, you are the absolute BEST!

Thames Orthodontics is simply amazing. Both of my teenage sons went through Invisalign braces with Dr. Thames. The office staff is amazing -- so friendly and efficient. They are extremely responsive when I've called in the past. You really don't see service of this caliber very often anymore and it is very much appreciated. After having braces when I was in middle school, I came back to Dr. Thames for treatment as an adult, this time with Invisalign, and had the best experience. It was so nice being remembered by his staff that are still working at his office all these years later! Dr. Thames and his team are nothing short of amazing. I was referred to Thames Orthodontics by my dentist for Invisalign treatment and from my consultation, where every detail was explained clearly to my understanding, treatment, and final day, I was treated like there most important patient. Sometimes we adults need an ortho-tune-up years after having treatment as teenagers. My dentist recommended orthodontics as a preventive measure against tooth decay and suggested I consult with Dr. Thames. He recommended Invisalign, which was a cakewalk compared to traditional braces, and I'm so pleased with the results. Dr. Thames has a calm demeanor, and his team is so warm and friendly - I recommend them highly!
