A Houston periodontist, like Dr. Porras, is a specialist in the prevention and treatment of periodontal disease (or periodontitis), in the placement of dental implants, and are experts in the treatment of oral inflammation.
Dr. Porras often treats more problematic periodontal cases, such as those with severe gum disease or a complex medical history. In addition, he is specially trained in the placement, maintenance, and repair of dental implants. All of his procedures can be done under intravenous conscious sedation.
We offer a wide range of treatments, such as scaling and root planing (in which the infected surface of the root is cleaned) or root surface debridement (in which damaged tissue is removed). We can also treat patients with severe gum problems using a range of surgical procedures.
Dr. Roberto Porras has established practice in periodontics and implant dentistry in the Houston area. After completing his undergraduate degree with outstanding marks, spent three years as a periodontology resident at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, where he attained his periodontal specialty certification and a Master of Science Degree.
After completing his residency program here in Houston at University of Texas Health Science Center Houston, Dr. Porras went on to open Texas Periodontal Associates in the fall of 2000. That wasnt enough for Dr. Porras he went on to get his board certification through the American Academy of Periodontology in 2004.
As a board-certified periodontist in Houston Dr. Porras stays up to date on all the current surgical techniques to ensure our patients only receive the best of the best. His procedures range from, but not limited to, dental implants to extractions to gum grafting. All of our procedures are done under intravenous conscious sedation, keeping our patients 100% comfortable.
I came to the US 19 years ago as a dentist from Colombia. My passion in dentistry has flourished in my 20+ of experience. Ive been lucky to be a part of Texas Periodontal Associates since 2013 providing optimal oral health care and education to patients. My family is my world. I was blessed with 2 handsome boys, Nicolas and Sabastian who are my strength and my whole life. My husband and I are deeply involved with raising our two boys and consider ourselves beyond blessed. As a family we enjoy spending time together, doing outdoor activities, and going to the movies.
Hello, my name is Vanessa. I have been working at Texas Periodontal Associates for over a year now but have been an 'honorary Porras' since 2011. I first started working with them as a caregiver for their wonderful daughter Elena, and this year will be 8 years that I have been in the family. I'm a pretty reserved person, but consider myself to be extremely dedicated and hard working. I love to paint and sculpt- my wish would be to one day be able to have my own little pottery studio in my backyard. I have a fascination with anything to do with criminal justice and am constantly looking for any new crime documentaries on Netflix. I look forward to all that is to come in my personal and professional life and hope to be able to be a part of this team for years to come.

Dr Porras and his team have been keeping my gums healthy and strong for almost 5 years. After initially visiting Dr Porras with several periodontal issues he and his team stabilIzed my gums, which have been healthy and strong since. He and his team are very caring and thorough. His treatments and cleaning are spot on. I highly recommend Dr Porras for your periodontal needs and Clara for cleanings.

Dr Porras and his team are tremendous. I'm very happy with my time here. I went in for some advanced gum recession and he and his team performed wonderfully. The cleaning is also probably the best I've had. Definitely 5/5 stars.

Since visiting here in October, I have received less than quality treatment for the surgery for periodontal disease. They even forgot to put bandages in my mouth after my 1st surgery and I bled profusely when I arrived home. BTW...do NOT SIGN all their documents especially the one for teeth extraction because they will pull teeth they deem that you don't need even if its not an issue. I have been experiencing extreme molar pain since November 2020. I called March 2021 due to an overwhelming pain on upper molar next to an "extraction" and their response was basically "what would you like for us to do about it?". All because I was concerned about there has been NO resolution to my issue since I left there. The receptionist/office manager was very unprofessional and seemed to be more inclined to gas light me (accusations regarding my attitude and tone...who's the BULLY now?) than be helpful to someone in severe pain. She claimed that she tried to help me but by hanging up on a patient (me) is clearly indication of her very poor management and decision making. I have not experienced anything like this before but I will seek another periodontist to take care of my situation. I would strongly advise that you do the same. FOLLOW UP...the only reason I came to Dr Porras was due to my previous periodontist (to whom I was going to since 2015 and LOVED going there) unfortunately had stopped accepting the insurance provider which is common amongst private medical practices. Hence ANOTHER BOGUS LIE from the receptionist/manager who claimed I didn't like my previous periodontist #discredited. BTW...I have made appointment to RETURN to my previous periodontist next week! And NO...I signed the extraction release because it was recommended by their office to do so. Goes to show the unexcusable behavior and bold lies she goes to in an attempt to protect herself from. Alleged "bullying" is just a deflecting tactic popular nowadays to label a person for whom you disagree with. The receptionist /manager showed little to no patience when the conversation wasn't going her way and was called out on her diverting the main issue. Please stay away from this practice.

I was very nervous to get a spot removed on the inside of my cheek, but all the staff was very caring and made me feel at ease. Dr. Porras told me step by step what he was going to do. I never felt anything and went home with no issues. I highly recommend him.
