Here at Pediatric Dental Specialists of Loudoun, we are proud to specialize in pediatric dentistry. We truly believe in starting children off right when it comes to their dental health. It is our goal to ensure that each visit goes well so that they think of the dentists office as a good place. Our entire staff is wonderful with children, allowing them to relax while we care for their teeth.

Our dentists and staff have received extra training for primary teeth. Our goal is to protect your childrens teeth so they can eat and speak correctly. We will do whatever we can to help your children have the bright smiles they deserve.

NITROUS OXIDE SEDATION: Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is a safe and effective sedative agent that is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a small mask that fits over your nose. Its used to help you relax. Dr. Ludi may offer to use laughing gas to make kids more comfortable during certain procedures.

COMPOSITE FILLINGS: A composite (tooth colored) filling is used to repair a tooth that is affected by decay, cracks, fractures, etc. The decayed or affected portion of the tooth will be removed and then filled with a composite filling.

SEALANTS: Dental sealants are thin coatings that when painted on the chewing surfaces on the back teeth (molars & premolars) can prevent cavities (tooth decay) for many years. Sealants protect the chewing surfaces from cavities by covering them with a protective shield that blocks out germs and food.

CHILD PROPHYLAXIS (CLEANING): Removal of plaque: Plaque is a sticky, almost invisible film that forms on the teeth. It is comprised of living bacteria, food debris, and saliva. The bacteria produce toxins that inflame the gums. Teeth polishing: Remove stain and plaque that is not otherwise removed during tooth brushing and scaling.

  • Removal of calculus (tartar): Calculus is hardened plaque that has been left on the tooth for some time that is firmly attached to the tooth surface. Calculus forms above and below the gum line and can only be removed with special dental instruments.
  • Removal of plaque: Plaque is a sticky, almost invisible film that forms on the teeth. It is comprised of living bacteria, food debris, and saliva. The bacteria produce toxins that inflame the gums. This inflammation is the start of periodontal disease.
  • COMPOSITE FILLINGS A composite (tooth colored) filling is used to repair a tooth that is affected by decay, cracks, fractures, etc. The decayed or affected portion of the tooth will be removed and then filled with a composite filling. There are many types of filling materials available, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Dr. Taylor Ludi can discuss the best options for restoring your teeth.

PORCELAIN ONLAY: An onlay is a form of dental restoration used to repair a decayed, chipped, cracked, or otherwise damaged tooth. An Onlay corrects damage extending to the a cusp (the raised points on the biting surface), in contrast to an inlay, which is used to repair only that portion of the tooth between these cusps.

PORCELAIN CROWN: Many times when tooth structure is lost due to severe decay, extensive wear and tear, existing defective restorations or if due to root canals majority of tooth structure is lost, in order to restore the tooth structure back to its original shape and form and to warranty that the remaining structure can maintain its functionality we use crowns. Modern material allows us to eliminate the use of metal in dental restorations. The new era of porcelain dentistry has improved the quality and longevity of restorations significantly.

Porcelain crowns are the best solution to restore functionality and esthetics back to damaged teeth. Dr. Ludi uses the most advanced crown porcelain ceramic substrate which in most cases have an underneath layer of white zirconium covered with hand build and fully customized layered white porcelain on top. This ensures the best quality crowns. Unlike in the past thanks to Our special custom-designed crowns, there is no need to remove a lot of tooth structure to make space for the crowns instead Dr. Ludi has a very conservative approach with minimal prepped teeth.

PORCELAIN BRIDGES: A porcelain bridge is a custom device that is anchored to neighboring teeth to replace one or more missing teeth. When a lost tooth is replaced with a bridge, the teeth on either side of the missing one are prepared as crowns to hold the artificial replacement tooth in place. Dr. Ludi uses the most advanced metal free frame work covered by hand crafted layered porcelain for his porcelain dental bridge to make sure they last longer and look as natural as possible.

PORCELAIN VENEERS: Porcelain Veneers are ultra-thin, tooth-colored, custom-made shells that are bonded to the front of your teeth to improve their appearance. Our Veneers are handcrafted dental porcelain material to create a natural looking result. Dental Veneers can cover discolorations or stains, fill gaps between front teeth, and cover teeth that are worn down, chipped, broken, misaligned, uneven, or irregularly shaped. Porcelain veneers are absolutely resistant strains unlike resin and reflect light identical to natural teeth. However, resin veneers are usually thinner than porcelain and do not need as much removal of the tooth surface as porcelain veneers do.

Downside For resin veneers would be the plastic dull looking and lake of texture and depth. Veneers are a more conservative choice than crowns when it comes to changing a tooths color, size or shape. With veneers your natural teeth remain mostly intact, while dental crowns require more of the tooth to be removed in order to fit.

DENTAL IMPLANT RESTORATION: Dental implant restoration is a procedure that creates an artificial tooth to replace a missing one. The process involves attaching this tooth to an implanted root that fuses with the bone over a period. The crown or artificial tooth is the placed over the implant, which is a titanium post that serves as the permanent root for the tooth. With the dental implants used as a foundation for a new tooth, there are two options for restorations. These methods for implant restoration are screwretained or cemented. The screw-retained implant restoration has some advantages over the cemented implant restoration method because it is more easily repaired in the case of problems with a crown being fractured.

PERIODONTAL SCALING AND ROOT PLANNING: Periodontal scaling and root planing are procedures used to treat periodontal disease. Thought of by many as a deep cleaning, this in-office procedure involves the careful removal of hardened plaque near the gum line, where harmful bacteria can grow and cause damage to both the hard and soft tissues of the mouth. The treatment starts with scaling, during which special instruments are used to scrape tartar away from the teeth and gums. Root planing follows, which is a process of smoothing the surface of the tooths root in order to prevent bacteria from accumulating there in the future. Finally, an antibiotic is administered to ensure that no bacteria remain at the treatment site.

ARESTIN is an antibiotic a dental professional places directly into infected gum pockets after a scaling and root planing (SRP) procedure. ARESTIN + SRP fights harmful bacteria deeperand longerthan SRP alone.

NITROUS OXIDE SEDATION: Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is a safe and effective sedative agent that is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a small mask that fits over your nose. Its used to help you relax. Dr. Ludi may offer to use laughing gas to make you more comfortable during certain procedures.

BOTOX: Botox is a protein that relaxes muscles and, most often, is used to reduce wrinkles in the skin. Its derived from a bacterium, clostridium botulinum, that can be found in many different natural substances. When receiving botox injections in treatment, a small dose is given that lasts only temporarily. Now that approximately 7% to 8% of dentists (and growing) in North America are now providing Botox treatment to patients for cosmetic treatment, there are other innovative uses being found for Botox in dentistry. Most dentists are not aware of the substantial benefits that Botox has as an adjunctive therapy in dental and cosmetic treatment. Botox has useful clinical uses as an adjunct in TMJ and bruxism cases, even more so for patients with moderate chronic temporomandibular joint and facial pain. Botox is a muscle relaxer and when given in typically half the dosage used for facial wrinkle smoothing treatment, it can greatly reduce the intensity of the muscle contractions that contribute to TMJ and facial pain and give the patient significant relief. We have all had TMJ patients that have gotten the bruxism appliances, have done full mouth reconstructions, and are still at wits end at trying to find the right answer that will help them with their facial pain. Botox can play a very important role in reducing or eliminating their facial pain. Therapeutic injections of Botox usually last for three to four months, but you can have pretreatments to maintain your TMD pain reduction or ease wrinkling.

Juvderm: Juvderm is a line of dermal fillers that help restore hyaluronic acid, a natural compound that gives skin its structure and hydration. Juvderm products replace the hyaluronic acid you lose as you age and can fill in lines and wrinkles, plump hollow contours in the cheeks, and add volume to this, used lips. Juvderm is especially effective for lines and wrinkles around the mouth. Juvderm results last anywhere from 6-18 months. Dr. Ludi injects the filler just below the skin, smooths out the gel-like substance, and leaves you with a smoother, more youthful appearance that improves your confidence and brightens your smile.

Dr. Ludi will be offering the patients who receive Botox and Juvederm, esthetic services. These services include skin treatments like facials, laser treatments, as well as microdermabrasion. Facials and microdermabrasion will be performed by a licensed and certified esthetician, Azam Kokabi. A. Kokabi is none other than Dr. Taylor Ludis mother and she has over 30 years experience in cosmetology and esthetics.

SKINCEUTICALS: Dr. Taylor Ludi will also recommend the use of different types of facial serums containing antioxidants by www.skinceuticals.com/skin-care/category/ antioxidants as an adjunctive therapy for optimal result with your botox and juvderm treatments. These patented daytime Vitamin C serums delivers advanced environmental protection and improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, loss of firmness, and brightens skins complexion. The serums are clinically proven to reduce combined oxidative damage from free radicals generated by UV, Ozone, and Diesel Exhaust by up to 41%. TEETH WHITENING: What causes teeth to discolor? Aging and lifestyle habits can cause your teeth to discolor. Stains may be caused by: * Poor dental hygiene * Tobacco use * Foods, such as red wine, coffee, and tea

These types of stains can be corrected with a whitening kit. Other stains, caused by certain medications or trauma, for example, may need aesthetic treatments such as veneers or crowns to correct discoloration. Dr. Ludi can help you determine if your teeths yellowness will respond well to an at-home treatment.
