Angie has been a part of our team since we began in 2008 and involved in Dentistry for 15 years at this location. She has been a Registered Dental Hygienist since graduating in 2005 from Asheville Buncombe Technical Community College and receiving her Associate in Applied Science degree in Dental Hygiene.
Angie is dedicated to her patients ' oral health. She provides regular cleanings, deep cleanings, along with soft tissue maintenance (gum disease) with a primary focus on oral hygiene education for the entire family. Angie believes a healthy smile is a 'beautiful' smile.
She and her husband Tom reside in the Newdale Community of Yancey County. They have 3 grown children and 6 wonderful grandchildren. Angie enjoys traveling (especially when it is with the grandkids), hiking, and being involved with her church family.
Christy joined our team in June 2010 and has been involved in Dentistry for 23 years. She is a 1997 graduate of Western Piedmont Community College. Christy is a Certified Dental Assistant and maintains certification by Dental Assisting National Board. Past work experiences have been in oral surgery and orthodontics. Christy is currently accredited with Blue Ridge Regional Hospital to work in the Operating Room with Dr. Townsend and is a part time dental instructor at Western Piedmont Community College. Her favorite part of of working in dentistry is connecting with patients and helping them create and maintain a beautiful smile.
Tammy joined our team in January 2011. She started her career in dentistry 30 years ago. She graduated from McDowell High School then attended Western Piedmont Community College where she received a diploma in Dental Assisting in 1990. She studied Dental Hygiene at Asheville Buncombe Technical Community College where she obtained her Associates in Applied Science degree in 2005 and was the recipient of the North Carolina Dental Hygiene Advanced Studies Award. Nothing is more rewarding to Tammy then getting to know her patients, making them feel comfortable and helping them achieve their optimal oral health. She loves seeing a smile on her patient's faces as they leave.
Tammy has been married for over 25 years and is the proud mother of two daughters, a dog, and a cat. When not in the office, quality time with her family is very important.Tammy enjoys tending to her flowers. She also enjoys feeding and watching the birds.
Charity joined our team in the summer of 2021. She is a recent graduate from Western Piedmont Community College in dental assisting and passed the DANB test to become a Certified Dental Assistant. Her favorite part of dentistry is helping patients become confident in their smiles!
Charity and her husband, Kevin have been married for 15 years. Together, they have two children, a daughter Addison and son Tristan. They love to travel and serve at their local church, Crossnore First Baptist.
Stephanie joined this team in 2008 and involved in dentistry since 2001. Stephanie is our practice administrator. She enjoys working with her husband, Dr. Taylor Townsend and the best dental team, to provide an exceptional experience for each patient in our office. Originally from Kingsport, TN, Stephanie met Dr. Townsend at Furman University where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Computer Science in 1998. Through a continued commitment to education, and as a lifetime member of AADOM (American Association of Dental Office Managers), she is currently working towards her fellowship status in this organization. To accomplish this goal, Stephanie participates in the AADOM Study Club, courses through the DALE Foundation, classes at the Hinman Dental meeting, and webinars.
Taylor and Stephanie have been married for 23 years and are are proud parents of three children, their 20 year old daughter, 19 year old son and 7 year old daughter. As a family, they love to travel and play outdoors including climbing, camping, and bicycling. Taylor and Stephanie have been foster parents for 4 years. Stephanie enjoys being actively involved in ministries at Church.
Dr. Townsend's roots in dentistry and commitment to education grow deep. Originally from Social Circle, GA, He attended Furman University and received a Bachelor's of Science degree in Biology. After completing a masters degree in Biochemistry from Colorado State University, he and his wife then enjoyed starting their family in Richmond, VA while attending Dental School at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry, graduating Magma Cum Laud. Out of a desire to further expand his clinical capabilities, Dr. Townsend then completed a 2 year General Practice Residency in Dentistry with Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. While there, he served as Chief Resident of the Department of Dentistry and received an Anesthesia License for Moderate Conscious Sedation with the State of North Carolina. This additional training has proven to equip Dr. Townsend to not only provide General Dental care to the general public at high standards but to also include those patients with severely compromised medical histories, special needs, and uncontrolled anxiety.
Professionally, Dr. Townsend enjoys seeing and being a part of patient's identifying and then reaching whatever specific goals they have for themselves and their dental care. Each patient is a unique individual and, therefore, is entitled to individualized, customized dental care. Dr. Townsend appreciates the privilege of assisting patients in the co-discovery of what ideal dental health is to them personally and then helping them attain that level of care. Dr. Townsend also places a high value on continued education, believing that we all continue to have the ability to learn despite our prior training or age. This commitment has been made manifest in Dr. Townsend's commitment to professional advancement and certification within the Academy of General Dentistry and the American Association of Hospital Dentistry. In doing so, he has attained the credentials of Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry, Fellow in the American Association of Hospital Dentistry, and Diplomate with the American Board of Special Care Dentistry. He also continues to teach at all levels of Dental education.
Personally, Dr. Townsend enjoys the various roles that life brings us as individuals. Yes, he is a Dentist professionally, but he is also a Husband and a Father. He holds onto times available to spend time with this family. As such, any time not beside a dental chair is usually spent outdoors somewhere in the mountains whether it be backpacking, cycling, or running. He also is an active member of his church and seeks to continue being a steward of God's resources through the dental practice and his involvement in the ministries of his church family.
