Despite being uncomfortable, dry mouth alone is not a severe issue as long as it is not persistent. If it is, it can lead to various long-term health issues, ranging from irritating to dangerous. Someone who suffers from chronic dry mouth will likely experience mouth sores, splits at the corners of the mouth, cracked lips, increased plaque buildup and a greater risk of tooth decay and gum disease. You might even start to have nutrition issues, because the lack of saliva makes it more difficult to break down food when you eat.
Even if your dry mouth does not seem to be persistent, it is important to stay on top of treating it. The good news is that treatment is simple for most cases of dry mouth. First, make sure you stay hydrated by sipping on water throughout the day. For your dental and overall health, you should drink lots of water anyway! Dehydration, which dry mouth can be a sign of, is a serious health risk.
Other simple things you can do to treat dry mouth include chewing sugarless gum and limiting the salt, sugar and caffeinated drinks in your diet. Some people might recommend sucking on an ice cube or sugarless hard candy, but this can actually damage your teeth, so dont do it! You can also purchase nonprescription saliva substitutes over the counter to reduce your current issues.
If you use tobacco or drink alcohol, cut back on those or find a way to quit. Even if you dont think smoking or drinking is the root cause, those activities can irritate a dry mouth, so you should limit or stop them entirely. Plus, theyre just bad for you!
The best treatment for dry mouth always depends on the specific cause, so if home remedies or over-the-counter solutions dont prevent your dry mouth, it can indicate a more serious underlying health issue. In serious cases it is best to visit a physician or dentist who can work with you to figure out the root cause of your dry mouth and help you treat it.

Dr.Lamborn, staff and my great hygienist, Eden, make me like going to the dentist. Eden does a fantastic cleaning, is so sweet. And, Dr Lamborn - I love that man. He has helped me so much over the years. I am so grateful for him. Can't say enough good!

This was my first visit to Tatum Ranch Dental Care. Dr. Lamborn and his staff were all very kind and very helpful! I wasn't sure how my insurance worked, but his office handled everything for me and made the visit very stress-free! Definitely found a great dental office.

My mom had trouble with her last three dentists. So I recommended Dr. Lamborn even though it is not near to her. My mom liked the hygienist and the Dr. She appreciated that Chia Ling showed her a diagram of measuring the pockets and gave a thorough cleaning. She had never received that level of attention before. Me and my family consider this dentist top rate. They track and inform us of our dental health and where we need to improve. They have recommended excellent orthodontist and specialists. They provide an affordable insurance plan. They not only care about our dental health, but treat us as family.

I had found them because they take my Medicare Advantage insurance and are close to where I live. I just went in for a cleaning as I had had 2 crowns done just a couple of months ago. That previous dentist wants to do 7 more crowns on my teeth, mostly replacing crowns!!!! Since I paid out of pocket at that office, I wasn't too happy to hear that. I do not need perfection, especially in the teeth further back. I asked Dr. Lamborn about crowns. He did say that I have 2 with large silver fillings that might crack sometime - but that could be in 2 months, 2 years or 20 years. When I asked how long crowns normally last, he said 5 - 7 years but he recently replaced a 50 year old crown. If one takes good care of a crown, hopefully it will last longer. I will go back. I feel that he is trustworthy.

This is an update to my previous review. The hygienist mentioned below was a temp and will not be returning. The office manager thanked me for the information on my experience with her and acted upon it immediately. My past experiences been nothing less than excellent until my last appointment when they assigned me a new dental hygienist. The cleaning was painful and bloody and even the gum depth check was painful which I have never experienced before from any office.
