For over 20 years, Dr. John Michael Tate served local residents with a family-based dental practice that continues to produce spectacular smiles today. In June 2011, John Tyler Tate, DDS, joined Tate Family Dentistry. He enjoys building relationships with our current patients as well as new patients. With a gentle touch and a comprehensive view of dentistry, he helps his patients enjoy total oral health for a lifetime. Although Dr. John Michael Tate is retired, many of his patients now bring their families to our Southlake dental practice.
Dr. Tyler Tate grew up in Southlake, Texas and graduated from Carroll High School before earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Nutritional Sciences from Oklahoma State University. After completing his undergraduate degree, Dr. Tate earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Baylor College of Dentistry. Following dental school, Dr. Tate began working with his father, Dr. John Michael Tate at Tate Family Dentistry. Having a desire for further surgical and comprehensive dental training, Dr. Tate went back to school fulltime and completed a residency program in Advanced Education of General Dentistry at Baylor College of Dentistry. This residency gave Dr. Tate an additional skillset in aesthetic, comprehensive restorative, sedation and implant dentistry.
Dr. Tate is a member of the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, a fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, American Orthodontic Society, and hascompleted the Masters program through the Center for Aesthetic Restorative Dentistry. Dr. Tate strives to continually further his knowledge in order to provide his patients with the highest level of care.
Married to his high school sweetheart, Dr. Tate and his wife, Tara, have three children- Andy, Evie and Anna. When he isnt working, you will often find him playing outside with his kids, at First Baptist Church of Grapevine, or spending time with family and friends.

Marci has been with Dr. Tates office since December of 2009. She serves as our business office manager and helps with scheduling, insurance questions and helping coordinate treatment. She enjoys getting to know our patients and building a lasting relationship. Marci is a Michigan gal, and yes, she misses the snow and loves snowy days in Texas.Marci is married to the love of her life, Scott, and they have three amazing children, all married to wonderful spouses, and two precious granddaughters. She loves being Nana! Marci spends her free time reading, crocheting and playing her flute.
Deanna was born and raised in Southlake, Texas.She is a mom of two, and she and her daughter recently renovated and moved into a home in historic downtown Grapevine.Deanna has been with Tate Family Dentistry since December of 2016.She serves at our front desk and is the most cheerful site to welcome each patient!As part of the Tate family, its pretty much in her blood to work here at the Tate Family Dentistry office.Her mother and grandmother both worked here for Dr. Tates father when he was practicing.Deanna says her favorite part of her job is interacting with the patients and forging relationships with them.Many patients may not know that Deanna was a member of Southlake Carrolls Emerald Belles Drill Team in high school.Dont forget to ask her to show you some of her moves next time youre in the office!
Melissa grew up in Austin and moved to the Dallas/Fort Worth area in 1986. She graduated from dental hygiene school in 1989 and began working for our office that same year. She has been happily married to her husband, Tony, since 1990. They have one child and a menagerie of pets including a variety of snakes. Melissa assists her husband in the care and breeding of Jungle Carpet Pythons, Green Tree Pythons and Carpondras.
Sarah has been a dental assistant in our office since 1983. She grew up in Southlake, TX and graduated from Carroll High School. She and her husband have been married since 1993. Together, they shared the responsibilities of homeschooling their three children and are now enjoying watching their children as young adults. God and family are very important to Sarah and her family. They are members of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Alvord, TX. Sarah enjoys spending time with her family and being outdoors.
Erica grew up in El Paso. She moved to DFW in 2006 and loves it here! Erica started her dental career in 2009 and is proud to have called Tate Family Dentistry home since January 2013. Her compassionate and soft spoken nature makes her excel at helping patients feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible. Erica and her husband, Jose, have four boys-Eriq, Giovanni, Joey and DiAngelo. She keeps busy running her boys around and doing the boy mom thing. She spends much of her time attending football practices and games, watching band performances, participating in church and outdoor activities, watching action movies, and, of course, cooking A LOT for her house full of boys! And she wouldnt have it any other way!

Dr. Tate is a wonderful dentist. I grew up going to his dad, moved away for awhile, and recently became a patient again. The office was quick to work me in when I had an issue with my retainer. Melissa is a fantastic dental hygienist. My teeth have never felt better. The whole staff is extremely kind and professional.

Dr. Tate and his staff are professional, yet warm and friendly. Recently, I had to have two cavities filled and had zero pain during or after my appointment. Dr. Tate has the ability and skill to deliver excellent treatment all while making you feel completely comfortable and at ease.

I never thought I'd say this but Dr. Tate literally makes going to the dentist fun. I've been to many dentist in my life but none even come close to compare with John Tate. Tate family dentistry is the Epitome of what a faith based Christian owned business should look like and operate. Their work is impeccable. And they have always taken care of me and my family with the most honest fair treatment you could find in Texas. I would recommend them to anyone needing a dentist

Had a great experience with Tate Family Dentistry. Dr. Tate is an awesome dentist. I was looking for someone to repair some old work originally done by my father-in-law who is a dentist in another part of the state. Dr. Tate was very informative and explained the procedures using some of the best technology I've seen. The 3-D images made it easy to see what needed to happen and where, and I got my crown same-day. It was my first time in his office, and everyone was super helpful in getting me registered as a new patient. Everything was clean, safe during COVID, and the environment as a whole was relaxing, which made for a peaceful trip to the dentist.

Great place, friendly staff. I had some debilitating tooth pain that my usual dentist failed to take care of. I called them after a friend recommended them. They got me in within a day on a very short notice. Instead of referring me to an oral surgeon, Dr. Tate said he could handle everything and get me some relief. It was quick efficient and painless. Highly recommend this place.

With new technology that I hadn't seen before, Dr. Tate and his assistants were able to use a 'gadget' connected to a computer to copy my two teeth to create one veneer and one crown. They printed on a printer that made the actual veneer and crown. They then covered it in porcelain and baked it in a kiln. Then, they were installed in my mouth. The results were fantastic. No mold making you gag, not temporaries while you wait for the lab to send back the final product. And, Dr. Tate, his assistants and his staff are so wonderful. I was so pleased with the appointment and the results.
