Crowns are also used to supportdental bridges. If you have a gap in your smile resulting from one or more missing teeth, Dr. Tarver can affix a bridge by crowning the natural teeth on either side to serve as anchors. Alternatively, a crown can restore one or more dental implants to replace missing teeth.

If Dr. Tarver determines that you would benefit from this procedure, he will carefully remove the damaged or decayed portions of your tooth. He may also remove a small amount of healthy tooth structure to create a stable base for your crown. In most cases, he will then take digital impressions using our state-of-the-art CEREC machine. CEREC, which stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, is equipped with advanced computer software. The software will create a three-dimensional map of your tooth, which will guide an automated milling machine. The machine can then fabricate a beautiful and highly lifelike restoration in a matter of minutes. Dr. Tarver will attach the crown, and you can leave the office with a fully restored smile.

In some cases, Dr. Tarver may recommend a traditional laboratory-made crown, especially if you need to restore one of your prominent front teeth. We proudly work with an outstanding dental lab to ensure durable and beautiful restorations. Our lab can create your crowns from a variety of restorative materials:

  • Porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM): These crowns have a strong metal base and a composite shell, which will match the color of your teeth. Patients should understand that the metal may eventually start to show through.

To be considered for porcelain veneers, you should have structurally sound teeth and healthy gums. Dr. Tarver will closely examine your teeth to determine your candidacy for this treatment. You may choose to receive a single veneer for a subtle improvement, or you could have veneers placed on all of your front teeth for a dramatically enhanced smile.

If Dr. Tarver decides that porcelain veneers are a good option for you, he will first remove a small amount of enamel from the front of your teeth. He will work conservatively and will only remove the amount necessary to accommodate the thickness of the porcelain. Then he will take impressions of your teeth and send to our partner lab. We work with an outstanding lab to ensure that you receive the highest quality restorations possible. Technicians will create veneers that match your natural teeth. When the restorations are complete, the lab will send them back to our office. Dr. Tarver will check their appearance and fit. If no adjustments are needed, he will attach the veneers using bonding cement and a special curing light. After Dr. Tarver evaluates your bite and makes any fine adjustments necessary, your treatment will be complete. You can leave our office with a magnificent new smile!

If you opt for Invisalign, Dr. Tarver will first take digital impressions of your teeth. Using advanced computer software, he will use these images to design clear aligners to fit around your teeth. He can also show you the way your teeth will gradually shift during your treatment. Dr. Tarver will send this data to an Invisalign lab, where technicians will create a set of smooth, BPA-free aligner trays. You will wear each tray for about two weeks. The aligners will be specifically calibrated to straighten your teeth using a gentle, precise force. On average, Invisalign treatment will take about 12 months for adults. The exact length of the process will depend on the severity of your misalignment and how your teeth respond to the aligners. When your treatment is complete, you will typically need to wear a retainer to keep your teeth in their straightened position.

Because the aligners are removable, you can eat and clean your teeth the way you normally would, and you can eat any foods you like. Simply remove your mouthpiece to eat, clean your teeth after your meal, and then put the mouthpiece back in place. Most importantly, Invisalign is effective. In addition to enhancing your appearance and self-confidence, this treatment can improve the alignment and balance of your bite. In this way, it can reduce your risk for decay, bruxism, TMJ disorder, and other conditions.
