Periodontal disease is a bacterial infection that can damage the gums, tissue, and bone around your teeth. Gum disease has many risk factors, including smoking, diabetes, age, and other systemic diseases. However, most people have very few symptoms until gum disease is in its later stages, and they can no longer postpone a visit to the dentist. Some earlier symptoms can include persistent bad breath, red, swollen, or bleeding gums and teeth that might be shifting.

Arestin is an FDA-approved prescription antibiotic that can be placed in the infected pockets of gum tissue. The tiny microspheres slowly work with time to help heal these areas. However, if you are not certain of what to do, why not visit our dental office and consult our proficient dental health specialists?

Periodontal disease is a gum infection caused by bacterial plaque that accumulates at the gum line if you do not regularly practice effective oral hygiene. If left for long periods, plaque can cause inflammation which can steadily separate gums from the teeth, thereby forming little spaces called periodontal or gum pockets.

Gum pockets offer a sheltered environment for the reproduction of the disease-causing bacteria (pathogenic). If the infection is not treated in time, it can spread from the gum tissues into the bone that supports the teeth. Thus, your teeth may loosen and sooner or later be lost. When treating gum disease, our skilled dentist advises that you embrace a non-surgical gum treatment approach comprising the following:

The integral objective in the treatment of periodontal disease is getting rid of pathogenic bacteria as well as the toxins they produce that are incorporated into the teeth root surface. This can be effectively done through scaling and root planing. Scaling encompasses removing hard deposits and plaque from the teeth root surface, both below and above the gum line. Root planing, on the other hand, incorporates smoothening the tooths root surface, hence making it hard for bacteria to withstand. Let our dentist help you rid yourself of plaque today.

If gum disease is not treated immediately, bone loss and gum pockets can lead to the formation of tiny, inaccessible areas that are hard to clean with handheld instruments. Therefore, it is better to try and disinfect these relatively difficult-to-reach areas with a topical antibiotic or a prescription antimicrobial rinse. These products, however, are utilized on a short-term basis as it is not appropriate to subdue beneficial types of oral bacteria.

If you have loose teeth, it is better to protect them from biting and chewing stresses, especially if you have a clenching or teeth-grinding tendencies. Our experts can reshape a small amount of your tooth surface enamel to alter the means of contact between your upper and lower teeth. Hence, this will reduce force and mobility.

Since dental plaque is the primary cause of gum disease, it is crucial to remove it regularly. This will require you to play a significant role in keeping your mouth disease-free. Our health specialists will instruct you about the most efficient and effective flossing and brushing techniques, as well as give you recommendations for products you should utilize at home. They will also encourage you to embrace this routine daily.

The most efficient means to warranty your periodontal treatment success is by becoming an active participant in your oral health or dental care. Nonetheless, non-surgical treatment is effective in restoring oral tissues to good health, tightening loose teeth, and controlling a gum infection. On that note, sticking to and maintaining your oral hygiene routine at home, as well as having regular visits to the dental office, will give you the ideal likelihood of remaining disease-free.

If left untreated, gum disease can lead to painful tooth decay, tooth loosening, and eventual tooth loss. Moreover, the presence of gum disease implies that bad oral bacteria are in circulation in your bloodstream to all body organs. Thus, your body starts fighting systemic inflammation that factors into the onset of various diseases.

Acute gum infection and inflammations destroy the gum line, bone tissue, and tooth ligaments. Your teeth may be loose, and the bacteria in periodontal pockets will erode the protective dental enamel. The subsequent dental decay pricks the enamel, giving room for bacteria to reach the nerve tissue. A severe toothache will then prompt you to get immediate oral health care through a root canal or extraction. If your tooth falls out because of periodontitis or is extracted, gum treatment is still necessary to reduce bacteria, control the infection, and save other teeth.

Visiting from out of state to Florida for a family emergency, the diagnosis of my tooth pain was right on point. They were able to get me in the next day from my initial call, properly analyze my issue and refer me to a root canal specialist group Endodontics Associates and set up a same-day appointment for a needed root canal. I was able to get the root canal treatment that afternoon and have been pain-free and following the procedures given to me. I truly appreciate the expediency of taking my tooth pain seriously and efficiently analyzing my problem and processing me quickly and referring me to a quality root canal specialist team. I'm confident that my mom will be in great hands with her new local dental office team and her upcoming surgery. Thanks! ~ Bruce

I am one of the pickiest people you would ever meet when it comes to dentists. When I walked in to this office, I could tell at once that it was a good place. There is a high level of professionalism and skill, and open concern for patients, all the way from the front desk to the dental technicians to the hygienists, and of course Dr. Amin. In addition to a solid dental training background, she is very experienced, with a sharp intellect and a friendly nature. She is highly skilled with her techniques and explains everything well. I have never had to wait more than five minutes in the waiting room and there is a cohesive, efficient plan of action for whatever you are having done. I had two crowns for dental fractures of long-standing. Some dentists noticed them through the years but gave no counsel as to what could or should be done to protect the tooth. Other dentists didn't notice them. Dr. Amin offered good education about how a crown would stabilize the tooth and prevent tooth loss if it broke further and involved me in the decision making. Her staff also is very knowledgeable about all the aspects of dental care and happy to share their information. It's very hard to find a technically talented dentist who is also efficient, runs a great office AND is kind and personable. I will always go back to Dr. Amin.

From my first visit to my most recent I have been made to feel as special as family. Valerie warmly greets me each visit. I needed extensive work and I was extremely nervous about everything- even just the cleaning. Joy put me at ease being totally sensitive to me fears. Dr Amin is simply amazing. She began by asking my dental goals. After telling her my smile embarrassed me and I was experiencing tooth pain and sensitivity she explained several different options to achieve my goals. My budget was a concern for me. Dr Amin was very considerate and we worked together to find the best plan. Her expertise is unequaled in my opinion. Brenda was an extremely sweet Dr assistant and helped tremendously with my anxiety. Kathy, Dr Amin's right hand is outstanding, amazing, more than competent. She was my lifeline thru it all. I now smile with confidence. In fact, I saw an older picture with my crooked discolored front teeth and am astounded at the difference. Tarpon Dental gets the highest rating I can give. Thank you all for your caring atmosphere.
