I went in with a sore on my gum caused by my partial. They were very personable, and appeared to be thorough. They said I needed surgery! That this place would not go away on its on. Well, I had to put the surgery off and guess what? The place is Gone!!! They charged me $400+ dollars and set up a surgery that was going to cost almost $2,000. Communication has been terrible, I call but it's an act of congress to get someone to call me back. I do not recommend, I do not trust them, and I certainly wouldn't have them do surgery, Dora

I have been impressed with this office, specifically Dr Valentine. After years of seeing my general dentist I insisted on a perio consult for loose front teeth. With my first visit with Dr Valentine at Tar Heel Perio, he suggested a bone graft. I find out during the graft that I had a root fracture, which was the cause of bone loss at my front teeth. This would involve tooth extraction and a flipper (fake tooth) to be made. This was so unexpected as I would be travelling within the week for 3 month work contract across county. Dr Valentine was accomodating with my schedule. My general dentist made an impression to take with me, as I would need an extraction and a false tooth made. Again this is my front tooth and this was very devasting to me. I had the flipper made out of state-just incase. When I returned back from working, the graft did not take and I procrastinated on the extraction. Dr. Valentine suggested another graft and did not charge me. When I finally had the extraction, the fake tooth did not stay in place. I reached out to my general dentist who made the impression, but she was apprehensive about fixing it. Dr Valentine did it for me with no problem! Also while there he had already spoke with the general dentist to expedite a replacement flipper. I was thankful at his efficiency in this matter. Dr Valentine and staff are very patient oriented and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend him if periodontal services are needed.

I went to this clinic last week to get a consultation for 4 upper and 4 lower implants and the doctor ask me to do an x-rays and a CT to check on my bones and it came up with a cost of $ 35,ooo , I asked the front desk , person to give me the results of my x-rays and my CT to get a second opinion from another dentist , they gave me just a copy of one x-rays, they hide the second x ray and the CT disc it seems to be like they got mad when they heard that I am willing to go for a second opinion, this place is horrible and I was thinking to go for the procedure but now I changed my mind because I felt that it is a matter of business, I am not recommending any body to go to this place

My husband was seen here and had a really unfortunate experience at this clinic with the staff, particularly the insurance specialist! The Dr showed him two videos in order to explain to him what was going on which was semi helpful, but a little impersonal. The front desk staff was helpful and friendly. But the insurance specialist was pushy and rude. My husband didn't realize this provider was out of network, his dentist referred him to this practice, yes we should of done our homework. She expected him to make a $3,500+ payment in full THAT DAY and MAYBE insurance would reimburse him or he could apply for care credit citing that this was emergent. Meanwhile I was on the other line with him just telling him to leave. FORTUNATELY he didn't do it and we found a periodontist who is in network (lesson learned) and is much nicer to deal with and more conservative and practical! We will never be back or deal with this practice again! Update: What Tar Heel was saying was an emergent procedure, indeed is not per a second opinion. My husband canceled his appointment with Tar Heel and the insurance specialist had the audacity to call him hours later and interrogate him! This felt much like a used car salesman and not like healthcare! I've never experienced anything like this in my life! Completely different experience at the second opinion office, NONE of this is emergent at all, can be done in stages (this is according to TWO additional periodontists)! And the insurance specialist from Tar Heel called him an additional TWO times!

I'm really concerned after reading the previous reviews of patients using insurance. I only paid for a consultation and x-rays, but I may be out that money if my situation is similar to others. I have never heard of a provider requiring a patient to pay up front and then filing the claim afterwards. I will call to get further clarity on when the claim has been filed, because it seemingly takes months for people to hear back. I am hoping my claim is filed in a timely manner so that I'll be reimbursed quickly. I can't in good faith pay for further procedures without a better understanding of their processes.

The surgery went well but the office staff has been unresponsive. After paying for my surgery scheduled in March, I have trying to follow up many times with the office staff to have my claim filed properly. I am still working on it after 2 months. I have received my EOB and sent it to the office and they still have some of the items wrong which means resubmitting for the third time. I am still in the process of trying to get someone at the office to return a call so that we can get this finalized. I am still waiting on my check after 10 weeks. This has not gone as smooth as promised when I first went in for my consultation.

After paying for her surgery scheduled in January, my wife followed up many times with the office staff to have her claim filed. Never the same person responded and they ultimately blamed it on information they needed from the doctor. Not until her follow up appointment several weeks later and asking Dr. Stella in person did the claim get filed with the initial insurance company. Once she received her EOB from her first insurance, she faxed it to the office, waited two weeks to follow up and was told to send it to them via text message. Followed up a week later and received a call from someone saying it would most likely get submitted but she could not say when. Finally spoke Yancey to have it filed and had to email her the EOB again. Yancey filed it twice with her second insurance company and didn't include the EOB either time. My wife finally talked with her insurance company and submitted the EOB herself - - when followed up she found out the check had been issued to Tar Heel and they had it without telling her. We have cancelled her future appointments, Dr. Stella was very personable, and we believe the surgery went well, but the office staff was nonresponsive and completely unprofessional.

I was completely satisfied with the results of the implant I had performed at Tarheel Periodontics and Implant Surgery. Dr Stella took considerable time to tell me about the process and make sure he had answered all of my questions. The procedure was completely painless and the healing recovery process could not have been easier. From his assistants and front desk staff, all were very professional and seemed interested in making sure I was completely satisfied. I highly recommend Dr Stella and his staff to anyone considering implants!
