I had a few issues at first with a gum graft and was upset, but the office worked with me for a resolution and were very kind and understanding of my situation and have set up a revision for me. I'm glad I went back and they treated me so well on my return. Thank you guys!

Dr. Kretchmer removed extra/protruding cement embedded on my gum from a crown I had gotten from another dentist that was causing excruciating pain. It took a long time to heal and pain to subside. In the healing process, I also needed a root canal (by another specialist). All in all, I appreciated the quick appointment and fast surgery.

If I could leave 0 stars, I would. This was by far the absolute worst experience I've had at any medical office in my entire life. I had a consult and met with Ashley, the treatment coordinator, to go over pricing and scheduling. I paid half up front. She and I discussed a few things and I was to call her later that day and follow up. I was unable to get ahold of her for more than a week and a half after having left multiple messages. When she did finally reach back out to me the first thing she said was "I was going to call you today anyway because I need the remainder of your payment." This was a red flag. You can call when you want money, but not when a new patient has questions. I had to continue to follow up with the office and ask questions about my upcoming conscious sedation appt. The morning of, I was instructed to take the meds 1 hour before arrival. When I got to the office they cancelled my appointment because they did not give me the appropriate consent paperwork to sign prior to my appointment, to which I arrived "inebriated." I understand why the papers couldn't be signed when I was on meds but all of this should have been handled prior to my appointing. The doctor didn't even come in to apologize about the circumstances (in which I took a full day off of work and had arranged for someone to drive me and stay IN the office for the duration of my procedure). Sarah, the treatment manager, did follow up the next day and she was the only person who acted like they even cared. She said they addressed the issue in the office. Had everyone handled business the way she did with me we would not have had this issue. All that to say, my trust in this clinic was completely diminished and I will NOT be going back under any circumstances.

The hygienist (April) was the best (by FAR) among the many hygienists I have visited including other clinics. I didn't feel a thing! She was fantastic!

Giving 2 stars because of the nice staff and quickly fitting me in. However, I should've trusted the reviews. I paid almost 3k for a gum graft, when going over my insurance the lady told me my insurance was a good one and covered a pretty good amount- usually 40%ish, but failed to tell me they were not in network for my provider. I learned my lesson to always call your insurance company first. I never would've continued there if I'd known this information, I wish I hadn't blindly trusted. Also a big piece of my graft came out but they said it looks fine even though I can still see open gum... I feel like I wasted so much money for a tiny piece of skin that barely held on. I really recommend going elsewhere and again, call your insurance company before paying them up front.

The Dr., his assistant and the hygienist I saw were all good. My problem was with the person who handled my ins. claims. They filed my ins. wrong 3 times and due to that it was denied everytime. Fortunately for me I have a friend that was a Dental Office Manager. She helped me do an appeal to my ins. co. and she is the one who got me my reimbursement I was due. Imagine that.... Left up to this office I would have received zero back, ofcourse I had already paid for my surgery in full, upfront. It would highly benefit this office for her to train them on ins. and financials. I agree with all the 1 and 2 star reviews.

Worst preidontal cleaning experience. They don't even give you eye glasess during cleaning procedure. They rushed the cleaning process and did not even bothered about my concerns during the procedure. They wrapped it very rapidly in around 10 mins. After the procedure, I am suffering with pain in some of my tooth. This is worst dental cleaning experience I ever had in my life.

This review is a long time coming and I wanted to finish the stages with Dr. Kretchmer before writing this review regarding my dental implant placements. I have extreme dental anxiety and after many failed attempts at restoring my smile, Dr. Kretchmer reversed my doubts and I have faith in the practice again. I came to Tarheel Perio in Fall of 2020 for an initial exam and consultation. Dr. K and Yancy made me feel at ease when going over my xrays and answered all of my questions. I asked about all of my options and they gave me a detailed care plan and advised me on how I could proceed. I went ahead and scheduled my first stage of surgery, extractions, bone grafts and cleaning. It all went so smoothly and the whole staff made me feel safe and calm for the process. My healing process went so smoothly and I didn't have to return for any additional grafts or adjustments. Just this past week, I came in for my implant placements, Rudy and Dr. Kretchmer made me feel safe and calm yet again and placed EIGHT implants. I have not felt any discomfort or pain besides the occasional pressure in my head and I can credit their expertise work for how comfortable I am. I cannot thank Dr. Kretchmer, Rudy, Dr. Valentine, Yancy & Brooke enough for their compassion and dedication to their work. Thank you for helping me get my smile back, Antoinette

First time patient to this clinic. I was referred by my Endodontist. Dr. Stella is a fantastIc Dr. He is very knowledgeable and very thorough. I loved this Doctor. Unfortunately, this office will NOT TELL YOU THAT YOU HAVE TO PAY OUT OF OOCKET FOR ALL OF YOUR TREATMENT EVEN IF YOU HAVE INSURANCE!! So be ready and bring money with you!! Also their Treatment Coordinator Mandy is very rude and will treat you like if you are an ignorant. Just be ready to pay some $$$$ bring your credit cards and hopefully pray that your insurance company will reimburse you!

I've met all the Doctors at some time over the years. My periodontal disease is now controlled after some great recommendations for a few procedures they did. Every penny spent here to save my teeth is worth the expense! Thank you Callie for pointing out a spot for the Doctor! Y'all are the best!

I had oral surgery on 2/23/2021 at Tar Heel Periodontics and Implant Dentistry. This was the best oral surgery I have ever encountered. Dr. Valentine, was so kind, caring, and humble. He took time to explain the procedure to me and made sure I understood. He made me feel so comfortable and safe. I'll admit, I was nervous, afraid, and didn't know what to expect. But the experience that I had, was outstanding and unbelievable. I felt like I was with family. You can tell that he loves what he does.......Thank you Dr. Valentine.....Job Well Done!! Caitlin...Dr. Valentine's assistance.....OMGoodness, she was the sweetest thing, she made me feel welcome as soon as I met her at the door. I was debating between 4 & 5 stars but ended up going with 5 due the level of follow up and care from the core staff. Dr. Deliz seems very competent and performed an overall successful procedure on my gums at minimal discomfort. I did have an issue where the office did not submit my claim to my insurance, even after I had asked about about it twice. That said, after I called and expressed my frustration, Yancy took ownership to ensure my claim was filed and accepted by my insurance, which took effort on her part. Ultimately the claim was accepted and I received my reimbursement several months later with the diligence of Yancy providing all of the paperwork/context needed. I will say that you have to be on top of the process as a patient and with the claim follow ups because no one will be as invested in you as you. That said, I found that you if you run into snags and are honest with the team, they will take care of you and make it right.

Dr. Valentine and the entire staff of Tar Heel Perio are friendly, pleasant, knowledgeable, and professional. Its hard to say I "enjoy" going to the periodontist, but if you have to go, this is the place to be.

I like explanations, as to exactly what needs to be done and how it can be achieved! Dr. Stella articulated in terms I could understand, and the process necessary to complete our goal of a new bottom right implant. I was comfortable, and prepared by his very capable dentistry assistant Callie! She has a very pleasant way of setting one's mind at ease at the same time, professionally getting ready for the procedure! I thank the team.. and the expertise! Linda Ward...Still Smiling

Dr. Valentine and his assistant Caitlin are WONDERFUL!!!! I have visited the Cary location 3 times: 1st for a consultation, 2nd for the procedure, and 3rd for the follow up and suture removal. Dr. Valentine and Caitlin are both very friendly, cheery, and very skilled and knowledgeable. A hole had developed in my gums behind one of my bottom teeth 2 years ago. At my last cleaning my dentist referred me to Tar Heel Perio. I met with Dr. V and he answered all of my questions, did a thorough evaluation, listened, and recommended a certain type of gum graft that would take gums from the tooth next door and move it over the hole, thus sparing me from removing gum tissue from the roof of my mouth, THANK THE LORD!! As well as using growth hormone to speed and aid in the recovery. I was very nervous the day of the procedure but Caitlin was so sweet and made me feel very comfortable. Again, Dr. V was very friendly and cheery and answered all of my question about after care and how the procedure went. I was only at the office a total of 1 hour and, really, the procedure probably only took 20-30 minutes tops once they got started. There was no discomfort during the procedure and ZERO pain afterwards. That is what blew my mind. Not one ounce of pain afterwards. At the 2 week mark, I went back and they were both there to greet me and remove my sutures. Again, both are very wonderful people, quick, thorough, friendly, cheery, positive, and I had healed wonderful and am back to normal eating and brushing!!! THANK YOU DR. VALENTINE & CAITLIN, you were both wonderful and I would recommend any and all of my friends, family, and strangers on the street to see you if they need any periodontic assistance. The only 2 negatives to the whole thing were: 1) their phone system is not great and sometimes it is hard to hear what they are saying and some times it is impossible to get a call through, but I think they are working on that (the Cary location has zero cell or internet service). 2) the scheduling person is a little rough. She tries to be nice and I honestly don't think she realizes she can be a bit off putting. She also misrepresented the recovery time to me. We had a trip scheduled shortly after my procedure, which I wanted to schedule after the trip, but she assured me I would be back to eating normally in just a "couple" of days. Unfortunately, I was told after the procedure by Dr. V that I should not bit into anything, and should eat only soft foods for the full 2 week duration of healing. So, that made our trip a bit difficult, but other than those 2 things, the doctors and dental assistants are WONDERFUL!!!! And I would still 100% recommend!!! (See day of procedure pictures, and day of suture removal picture)

Not happy with insurance claims and delayed in sharing test results as well as... I prefer to give ZERO star for this clinic I will not recommend this cline to anyone. I am very disappointed with how they handled my insurance claims. I paid in full to begin with and should've gone with my gut that that was weird. My insurance covered the procedure and they still have not given my money back like a grand. It's been over 3 months since the procedure. I've called the office here and there and whoever is in the office says they'll pass the message to the head of insurance who still has not resolved issue. Their primary goal is to get money upfront and not worry about the treatment as well as insurance claim from their end.
