Dr. Alan Tan was born in Pennsylvania, but raised in the Bay Area, in the city of Sunnyvale. He and his good friend, Arnold, grew up with a keen interest in animals and science. It was always his intention to do something in the health field. During a college sabbatical in Colorado, he spent his time skiing, working, and volunteering at Aspen Valley Hospital while figuring out what he wanted to do with his education. A graduate of UC Berkeley with a bachelor's degree in biochemistry, he finished his studies there in 1986. Go Bears! That same year, he attended Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. With a goal in mind and in sight, he excelled and graduated in the top of his class in 1990. All intentions were to return to California right after graduation, but after being accepted to the post-graduate orthodontic residency at Tufts, he stayed on in Boston for an additional two years.

Dr. Tan has been trained in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics, which means he not only treats teeth, but also understands facial growth and development. He is a member of the Sacramento District Dental Society, the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, the California Association of Orthodontists, and the American Association of Orthodontists.

For 26 years, Dr. Tan has been practicing solely in Woodland, California and moved to his present location in an award-winning renovated Craftsman-style house in 2002. During this time, he has built a reputation of making great smiles, improving bites, and building self-confidence. Just ask around.

Dr. Tan and his team have a combined 130 years of experience in the orthodontic field. The team is what makes this place special. They understand the importance of customer service. Dr. Tan has taken the lead from businesses known for their customer service such as Nordstrom, Disneyland and Southwest Airlines, and incorporated this into his practice. He also gives back to the community with pro bono cases through the Smiles For Kids program, sports guards for various sports teams at local schools, supports 4-H and FFA, sponsors Yolo county CASA (as well as sat on the Board of Directors for five years), speaks at local career days, raises funds at elementary school carnivals and festivals to benefit the school itself, among other endeavors.

In his personal life, he spends most of his time with his best friend and wife, Suzie. She started her own business, a 7200 sq. ft. dog hotel. It was a daycare and overnight camp for dogs which combined her 18 years of success as a manager in the investment management industry with her passion for our canine friends. She recently sold the business after a successful 4 years. When they do have free time, they visit with family and friends, travel, dine out, run, kayak, ski, swim and snowshoe.

Our staff is trained and skilled, and we strive to provide energetic and fun-loving service to each patient. Each member of our treatment team is a registered assistant, and our office staff has years of experience in treating patients with the highest level of care. We strive to stay abreast of the very latest in technology and advances by regularly attending continuing education courses and seminars.

Hi! My name is Sondra and I have been an RDA in the orthodontic field for 30 years. My favorite part about working in orthodontics is getting to know the patients and watching their smiles change. When Im not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends along with my husband and our two daughters.

We all want to belong somewhere and here is where I belong, somewhat like a home away from home. I am a long time member of the Tan Orthodontic team. My position here is Financial Coordinator. My favorite part of working in the orthodontic field is seeing the smiles that we've helped to create over many generations.

Restoring our home and living in the Capay Valley has proven to be much work, but I am totally in my element being in the country. At the end of the day, my husband Bart and I find it most relaxing to sit and enjoy our view of the beautiful Capay Valley hills.

Hello everyone! My name is Elisabeth Guerrero. My goal was to find a job in Woodland, where I grew up. Luckily, I found Dr. Tan's office and was offered an internship, and now I work here as a Registered Dental Assistant. Since I am bilingual, I also contribute to the office by assisting our Spanish-speaking clients. I love to get involved and help patients throughout their treatment. Being part of Dr. Tan's team makes me feel very fortunate to be part of this family.

I have worked for Dr. Tan for two years as his Lab and Records Technician. My favorite part about this job is the people I work with, as they are always upbeat! Also, I truly enjoy watching patients transform from shy non-smiling people, to people with beautiful, confident smiles. I live in West Sacramento, and when I am not working I enjoy spending time with my husband and our poodle, biking around Midtown and Discovery Park.

Im so excited to be a part of Tan Orthodontics as the Marketing Coordinator. The first time I walked into the office, I could immediately tell the staff cared about each other and the patients. Dr. Tan and team are second to none and they keep the office full of fun and laughter. I grew up in the Bay Area, received my business degree in Marketing from Santa Clara University, and worked in Silicon Valley before moving to Natomas and starting a family. I have three children, who keep me very busy! When were not on the soccer or baseball field, we love to travel and spend time outdoors.

Ive worked as a Registered Dental Assistant in orthodontics for over 20 years and Im so happy to be back at Tan Orthodontics. The fun office atmosphere isnt like coming to work; it is like going to a party! I grew up in Woodland, joined the Navy after high school and served for almost 5 years before becoming an RDA. I love to spend time with my family and friends, and I especially enjoy the company of my fur-babies Ed and Copper.

Ive come full circle at Tan Orthodontics. I used to be a patient of Dr. Tans and now I am his Office Manager! As office manager, it is my job to make sure our team delivers excellent care to our patients. I am a Woodland native, born and raised, so I enjoy all the familiar (and new) faces! In my free time I enjoy knitting, golfing, reading, and spending time with my daughter.

Im so happy to be a part of the Tan Orthodontics family! Ive worked in orthodontics for the past seven years as a Registered Dental Assistant, and have always hoped to find a job close to home. I grew up in Woodland and currently live in town, so being able to work with Dr. Tan is truly a dream come true! I love spending time with my husband and two kids - who keep me very busy. Im involved with Girl Scouts and PJP Cheer. I love to craft, bake and camp.

Hi! Im Allie, and Im so happy to be the first face you see when you walk into our office. I was born and raised in Woodland, and worked for Dr. Tan part time when I was in high school. After 8 years working in the medical field, Im so glad to be back at Tan Orthodontics as the scheduling coordinator. In my free time, I love to go to the beach, spend time with family, and go on any adventure that might come my way. Im an animal lover through and through - Id love to own an alpaca one day!

My name is Laura, and Im so excited to start a new dental adventure at Tan Orthodontics! Ive been an RDA for over six years, specializing in pediatrics, and Im ready to transition over to orthodontics. This is such a fun place to work, and I love helping patients feel more confident about their smile. Outside of work, I spend time with my husband and our daughter Adelynn we enjoy hanging out with our family and friends. I love to shop and go camping.

I am excited to be the newest Treatment Coordinator at Tan Orthodontics. I worked in the Veterinary field for over 8 years and one day decided I needed some change. Luckily I found Dr. Tan's and I get to be a part of a local business that makes such a huge impact in Woodland's community. I have enjoyed every bit of this new journey!
